I've mostly seen right-wing politicians who don't care much about the environment. The Modi government is often seen disregarding environmental laws, arguing that they hinder development and industrialization-an example being the Mumbai Aarey metro shed case. But now, with elections approaching and the Aam Aadmi Party in the picture, they suddenly want to talk about the Yamuna. Why not apply the same philosophy? Why not prioritize industrialization over the environment this time as well? Why this hypocrisy-just because it suits their political agenda?
I will never forget my Delhi trip in 4 Dec 2021. I went to Lal Qila and my god, I could not stay der for 30 mins. My eyes became red, constantly itching, tears (neither of joy, nor of sorrow) was flowing non stop. And it is not like I live in some super clean environment. I live in Kolkata. But Delhi was unbearable.
@@BharatThatIsIndia😂😂 what do u think cleaning is 😂😂😂 that is exactly what to do dilute ppm with good water😂……second Ganga is very large river to clean Delhi in Yamuna is just 18km
@itsover9008 Don't know if they are cleaning the sewage by building sufficient sewage treatment plant? If they are doing it, it is great. But the Sabarmati river cleaning (?) Ahmedabad city was mainly done by Narmada water. By the way, Ahmedabad is rated one of the clean cities in India. So People, municipalities, and the government must have been doing something better, which other cities can follow.
22:25 No name calling. The Print didn't, but look at all other media. They did a whole bunch of name calling blaming central govt and LG for their (AAP's) mistakes, and now suddenly it's a complex issue where we shouldn't name call? Name call away I say. I'll start. I dislike that Modi is also promoting freebies and is becoming more of a socialist. We need capitalism and free markets, and we are falling back on social programs because they get votes.
Vote for BJP as they promised Sabaramati like riverfront on Yamuna bank , they can’t escape from blame After 5 years as currently AK blaming LG even after 11 years
Thanks Shekhar Ji and Soumya Mam for highlighting this topic. This is not about center vs state or Modi vs Kejriwal. All levels of government are utterly failing to clean up our cities and our rivers. Citizens are feeling quite helpless with the situation. The courts as usual run at their own slow pace and get nothing done. Is there no way to hold these offices truly accountable?? Letting this happen is a crime!
Thanks Shekhar and Soumya for this episode in the national interest!! Given the seriousness of the situation, Modi Govt should have passed a separate legislation and cleaned up the river as a national project. Arvind is a 100% cheat no doubt but possibly, the project is beyond financial and technical capacity of Delhi Govt. Of course, polluted water is the issue for every river in country. Modi Govt must take this up as national mission and take it beyond politics. In addition, involve NGOs like that Sri Sri or Jaggi Vasudev or others too.
Tons joins Yamuna way way before it enters Delhi. In fact, the Tons has higher volume of water than Yamuna before their confluence. You clubbed the mighty Tons with southern tributaries like Chambal and Son, which is misleading.
Thanks for doing this and reminding us of how poor and backward a country we are. One disagreement. Delhi is neither a rich not an affluent state. Yes, it has a small number of very wealthy people, but that has little to do with the causes of this pollution.
Thank you Shekhar for taking up a really very important and burning issue. It really is a lack of political will. But how can this not be politically important? Is it because freebie culture is easy to implement? Preventing sewage and effluent drainage into river will require real work. Is it that recipients of freebies do not mind killing a river in the city? Are freebie culture and keeping river clean mutually exclusive in context of Delhi? Can media take up cudgels and constantly hound the govts till this is done? Is judiciary the nemesis of good governance where judges have no accountability for lost time value or for creating omissions in governance. What justice is court imparting by indefinitely staying action in najafgarh drain? Is Indian polity not ready for universal franchise yet? Is it okay if political class can electioneer based on freebies, neglect basics like keeping rivers and roads clean and yet hope to win?
That was a very informative deep dive into Yamuna Pollution. It was also depressing to hear that the solutions are known but not being executed and instead the problem being used as a political game. I am not an expert in constitutional law or Civics for that matter but shouldn’t we have a provision where certain environmental issues can be declared as an emergency and Central Department deployment happens to fix it? We use the CRPF as and when needed in states right?
There is some error I suppose. She is talking about dissolved oxygen but screen is mentioning data of bod which is different thing. Lesser the bod , the better the water quality. There is I think Typo error .
Tomorrow: Germany!!! They took heavy inspiration from Trump and passed a law when there is no govt! This sounds very cluttered. Can you tell us how is this possible? Is it Also possible in India !?!
Why have successive governments in Delhi failed to fine polluters and simply implement existing legal guidelines ? Don't we as honest law abiding tax paying citizens deserve a clean healthy river which also happens to supply water to many households ? Clean water and air have public health consequences that should make it a very important political issue. I must add we've allowed the population of Delhi to swell without adequate investment in modernizing waste management and sanitation systems, further these can be done only by the state, the private sector can contribute but the state has to lead the way. We need to learn from large cities like Tokyo and NY how they organize and manage their civic systems so well.
An example is the open nallah in West Delhi near Meera Bagh, its led to growth in the mosquito population and innumerable cases of dengue, yet nothing has been done for the past 35 years to find a solution. Can't the MCD in the region find expertise (foreign or domestic) to solve this problem ? It makes no sense at all.
Pollution in Ganga and Yamuna represent the downfall of Indian culture....rivers have been made toxic and national political discourse is being made toxic every single day
It need rejuvenation like siene river multiply by 10 that's how bad situation is,if not for freeloaders than keju would have never got such mandate in 2020, in fact this election even this tight is because of frebies drugs of which Delhi is addicted to it

Informative yet useless episode of CTC. The episode doesn't answer why none of the parties have been able to clean the river. This is not the first time that Yamuna has become a political issue.

YES !

Modi was cleaning Ganga, Kejariwal was cleaning Yamuna.
Both won for 3 terms and Ganga Yamuna are dying slow death, Yamuna more than Ganga.
And Sabarmati has been cleaned to a decent extent.
@itsover9008 Sabarmati was not cleaned. Narmada water was added to Sabarmati.
It is not cleaning the river.
@@BharatThatIsIndia Noted. Would I be correct if I said that they are controlling pollution from entering the river(s)?

Give BJP the power and see the outcome
BJP done great river front at Kashi, Ayodhya and many others
BJP also said they would clean Ganga 10 years ago.
It's the culture that need to change especially hindu culture need some proper civic education. Government can't do nothing

Awaiting “Shekhar ke sawaal” and D.K. Singhs’ “ politics unfiltered”
Eagerly !!
Atleast they are doing better job with ganga
No , they are not. Yamuna has 0 oxygen on exiting Delhi. Yamuna dies in Delhi. It is beyond pathetic, it is criminal.
@ and its AAP responsibility
We should reduce the flow of Yamuna from Uttarakhand itself. We in Uttarakhand should make big dams on Yamuna
Once the river is clean in lower regions and they get there act together then we should release more water.
Whole India is like Yamuna from beginning 😂😂🤡🤡
