The 2019 Jeep Cherokee highlights a choice of three innovative 4x4 systems that have been enhanced for an unmatched 4x4 capability for all weather conditions. Jeep Cherokee maintains its place as the benchmark mid-size SUV with rear-axle disconnect technology that results in reduced energy loss when 4x4 capability isn’t needed while improving fuel efficiency. The rear-axle disconnect seamlessly switches between two- and four-wheel drive for full-time torque management and does not require input from the driver. Available on the Cherokee Latitude, Latitude Plus, Limited and Overland models, Jeep Active Drive I features an all-new design for Cherokee. Jeep engineers set out to reduce weight and enhance the efficiency of the next-generation rear drive module (RDM), which is fully automatic and delivers seamless operation in and out of four-wheel drive at any speed. The result of this new state-of-the-art technology is a reduced weight of nearly 17 lbs., and a reduction of low-speed system drag torque by 50 percent, which improves fuel savings. All 4x4 systems feature the Jeep brand’s renowned Selec-Terrain traction control system, which allows the driver to choose the on- and off-road setting for optimum performance. Five customized settings are offered: Auto, Snow, Sport, Sand/Mud and Rock.

It has to be all season M+S tires from manufacturer. Still very slippery. Proves that dedicated winter tires are well wroth it. Merci!

All season tires is standard on the Limited
My wife has a 19 Cherokee limited and I put cooper evolution winter tires on it. The thing is an absolute tank in the snow!
With the right tires that thing would be amazing in the snow.
We have one with snow tires, and I’ve never had a more confident vehicle in the snow, the only downside is the 9 speed transmission is clunky and unresponsive
It looks like all 4 tires are spinning with no traction. No can can move in that situation, doesn't matter how good the 4wd system is.
Summer tires...
If those are stock dealer tires than yeah it will struggle in the snow. Once I got tires with thick tread on my Cherokee it was unstoppable in the snow.
Looks fun. I am in Alberta (ice and snow) with 4 seasons on my grand Cherokee and if I drive on ice alone, I put it on snow mode and it really help. Tires will not spin and traction is way better. I do have the 4Low on it but I haven't tried yet. Great video imho.
Tires has 70% role in these conditions.

Is it just me or does it seem better when cars slip a bit then regain traction to get you back up the slope? I think it is because it gives the computer a chance to try different algorithms and codes to get the car up the slope.

I don't like fiat but let us not kid ourselves if this was any other SUV it would not even move so let's give credit where it's due the Jeep is and always will be the best offroad SUV it did very well

i only got my cherokee trailhawk stuck once but not completly i go stock on snow ice but i tough i was stuck until i realised i had my parking brake activated haha got my 4x4 system overheat and when i realised that after 5 minute of spinning i remmoved the parking brake and got out in 1 sec lol i did that 2 time with my jeep i feel so dumb that auto parking brake system when no seat bell and you go backward got me twice grrr but this jeep in snow is not stoppable haha just such a good jeep (traihawk model) idk about the other
my trail hawk with negotiate that snow hill with no problem.
maybe not with the OEM tires on ice.
If I owned this parking lot I wouldn't mind you doing the diagonal tests. Spinning doughnuts seems like you are wearing out your welcome. I enjoy the tests, and I imagine much like the IIHS you are pushing manufactures to make better products.
This whole video seems to be driver error.
I do have a Cherokee (to be fair Trailhawk which is 1" taller with all terrain tires) and mine doesn't give any issues under similar conditions (no matter if it's in Auto or Snow mode).
You referring to using 4Low?
These “conditions” are ridiculous, so much spinning worsening the ice... not even 4Low can do that after a while... awful angle
+1, the snow diagonal test is mostly related to the tires but the snow drifting is best thing, never boring ;-)

I have 2019 trailhawk. I love my jeep. Just make sure you have a good tire on it.

@TruBeauty depends on conditions. I live in Minnesota, and I have the destination at tires. I like them well. If it's very snowy, I have heard good things about the Firestone weather grip. Hope this helps your journey!

The KL with a 2 speed transfer case is hands down better than Subaru in these conditions

Where we live.......very soft sand beaches.....the minimum is about 15 psi....and
the max is 20 psi.......anymore.....and you are pissing in the wind.....

It would have done a lot better with summer tires if you put it in 4low on ice.

There is no 4Low with AD1 (Active Drive 1) as this model has (stated in video description).
Only AD2 and AD-Lock (TH model system) has 4Low

Could you test 2019 RAV4? Not the Trail version, but regular, LE or XLE.

because the front axle and rear axle do not lock like a true 4 x 4. That vehicle had all 4 wheels spinning erratically and independently. Although you can "Call it a 4 Wheel Drive" it's a piss poor design. If you need or want a 4 wheel drive vehicle, spend a few dollars more and buy one with an actual transfer case that locks 50/50 the front and rear axles.
Cherokee with AD2 and Trailhawk have 4Low, latter also has rear diff locker, so just as capable as wrangler... true 4x4 for sure!
