    That subtle GWAR reference... there's a reason this is my favorite painting channel. Thank you so much I've learned a ton from you and really enjoying painting my own Maggotkin!

      So glad to hear this! Maggotkin is by far my favorite army I've ever painted. More models will follow on this channel for sure!
      As for GWAR, it's my favorite band! Been a fan since This Toilet Earth way back and even had an opportunity to visit the GWAR Bar when I visited the US

    Love the amount of work you put into your videos. I will be using this video as guide on how to paint the skin of my glottkin. Great video!

    Turned out real cool, that skin is a masterpiece in grime ;D.
    I do have a thought when it comes to the brass though. Any edge damage to a brass or bronze bell would only show fresher brass or bronze, but I assume the silver is a stylistic choice? It may be cool to base coat in a metallic brass or bronze, dab with a dark black brown to simulate the dielectric copper oxide forming, drybrush/edge highlight with the metal base again to simulate relatively fresh damage to the item and add the malachite (green mineral copper oxide degrades to) as the last step.
    Take that for what it is though, I haven't painted a miniature since the very start of my teens, and I may be coming from the completely wrong mindset :D.

    • @ThePutridPainter
      @ThePutridPainter  3 роки тому

      Well truth be told I just went with whatever looks cool. You seem to actually know what it's supposed to look like! I could've do some research but in the end you want something that looks cool from a distance on the tabletop.
      That's why usually my painting schemes are relatively simple. I don't use glazing methods etc. I am curious what actual aged bronze looks like so maybe I can appropriate the real thing next time!

      @@ThePutridPainter I of course meant no ill with it, I really dig the paint job :). Just a thought that came to my head, material layering being one of the few things I have any right flab my mouth about, coming from a blacksmithing background and now doing CG, focusing on material scanning and rendering physics.
      I think the most important thing in emulating an oxide is understanding that the oxide itself is not a metal. Any transparent thing, like an ink wash, would still allow the metallic sheen (high specular) to shine through whereas real oxides mostly don't. Copper oxide specifically is a dark brownish-black dielectric (non-metal) material, so a really aged brass, bronze, or copper would basically be a splotchy dark brown/blackish color without any metallic sheen at all. The green/turquoise stuff is a further degradation of the oxide and comes later. Any damage to the object would however expose fresh, unoxidized metal, which gives it that nice pop in contrast both in color and roughness ("surface evenness"/"level of polish"/"shine"). And of course, underneath the surface of a solid chunk of brass, there would be more brass. So any damage done to any exposed brass would just reveal more brass, and not change color. But that is of course all real-life behavior, and may or may not translate directly to a painted miniature.
      Oh, and yes, due to metals having a completely different behavior to non-metals in terms of light reflection (metals would have no diffuse reflections, only high specular reflections and non-metals would have diffuse reflections + low specular reflections) and the paint most likely just being a medium holding actual metallic particles, coating whatever is supposed to be metal in black first would probably be good as a backing to any gap in those particulates to emulate that lack of diffusion.
      Anyways, hope that is somewhat useful info on some level and that I don't come off as intrusive. Been snooping around these larger Nurgle models on UA-cam for a bit, seeing them all painted up like this gets me a little hyped to go and buy some cast resin and brushes again :).

      @@Hostile_Design you didn't come off as intrusive! I'm always looking for constructive feedback on anything I do. Painting is no different so thanks for explaining. I usually take some artistic liberty but painting things realistic is also great. Very appreciated!

    Ah damn, I had hoped for some plague drones to come. I already finished mine, so I don't quite need inspiration for those, but would have been cool to see.

      Well I did make video’s for the Plague bearers and the Rot Fly of the Lord of Afflictions. And I’ll get back to Nurgle eventually :) just want to paint some other stuff first

      Of course go for it! If I were to put Rotigus or another big daemon in my army I would paint it differently to get some variety
