Omar is the only drummer that I get the same feeling that I've always gotten when I listen to John Bonham. There's something about his hits, the super tiny nuances in the spaces between everything he does that's just so unique and makes most of his hits seem like a ''whip'' cracking. I'll probably never be able to figure out exactly what it is that really gets me about him. The funny thing is he's also got probably THE most subtle and dynamic touch throughout the history of drumming but that's not THE thing about him lol. Definitely the desert island drummer, like, if you could only bring one :P
Watching Omar drum is like watching a warm glass of water flowing behind the kit. His smoothness and his constant smile always make me smile as well. He is just phenomenal. I remember him drumming with Al DiMeola on the "Kiss My Axe" album. His drumming on that album was insane!! Simply brilliant!!
Had to get in on this convo Mike Larsen! Love this man *Omar Hakim*!! Been watching him long b4 his Sting days! I have always heard others over time describe his drumming as very fluid_ moves w/ease & finesse, graceful, quick & powerful. Drums always sound great. Distinct, & uses those cymbals to extensively cover Rythms, accents, color, hits etc. He always looks like he loves what he's doing & his body mechanics are just amazing. Makes me happy to see the wonderful comments because he deserves them. I tip my hat off to you Omar.
Great band! I especially liked the second track. They all play so well together too. Everything is controlled and tasteful, which matches Omar's style perfectly.
Sting's mistake was letting Omar go after the Dream Of The Blue Turtles tour. Nothing against Manu or Vinnie, but Omar was on fire back then in 1985. An exciting and lively drummer.
The band sounds incredible and I was blessed to see them live a few years ago in Waterbury Connecticut. I said hello to Omar after the gig and he was a extremely nice and down to earth. Thank you.
I've been using Omar Hakim's signature Vic Firth stick for at least 20 years. Not because he's an amazing drummer but because it's a great design. Much love to you brother!
Great to see the Hakim family at work. Great to see them with the young uns too. Jazz fusion at it's best! Thanks for Sweetwater for featuring these fine musicians. I'm going to get ahead and check out the TF mic series as well. I didn't realize that TF also made new dynamic mics!
Legendary drummer Omar Hakim. I have heard him in different musical situations and on projects by the great Victor Bailey, Sting and Marcus Miller. Last time I witnessed him live was with the group Chic and of course the one and only Will Lee standing right next to me.
Such a great dude….I was a Phil Collins devotee back then (80’s) but Hakim (along with Katche ) were SO COOL I couldn’t help but hang on their every note…
Omar Hakim's performances never fail to amaze me, such an inspiration. And loved Ozmosys - especially the improv section in "Humor and Nudity". Stunning! Thanks, Sweetwater for having Omar Hakim and Ozmosys at this event!
Rachel Z on the keys is good, I saw her play live with Al DiMiola in the late 80s, this video doesn't do her playing justice. She has a solo album that's worth checking out too (maybe more).
Wow a legendary drummer indeed Mr. Omar Hakim is best known for Anita Baker's 1988 album title hit Giving you the best that I got and he still going strong amongst others Keep up the good work!
Watching this in Vienna, i have to come here to learn that there’s something called „Austrian sound“. OH is one of the coolest drummers, I know him since the „Dream of the Blue Turtles“ album. Time to hear that again.
Omar is a great drummer and I think the first person I ever heard of doing drum session work over the internet way back when. Omar said he got two of those mic's for his Fazioli piano. Actually his wife Rachel Z.'s Fazioli piano. Been listening to Rachel Z for many years excellent pianist and she's playing keys in that video.

Omar's drumming never gets old to listen to , he is always smooth and tasteful with his playing ... Love it.

Was sooo much fun!!! Thanks to telefunken and Sweetwater for this wonderful video!
I saw Hakim with Sting in the mid-80s. Great drummer! He's been cool for decades. When is he going to start aging, like the rest of us?? Not fair. 😝
Hey, at least he's bald.
So glad to see both of his signature Snares. Im lucky enough to have both.
Great band! I especially liked the second track. They all play so well together too. Everything is controlled and tasteful, which matches Omar's style perfectly.

Omar Hakim and coolest band
It is so rare to see a true master with such humility and so genuine a love for their craft; thanks for sharing Omar Hakim's performance!
Sounds nice. I’m a fan of Omar Hakim for years.
Oh my goodness this is so good! I haven’t heard Omar in many years and I not let that happen again.
Such a great dude….I was a Phil Collins devotee back then (80’s) but Hakim (along with Katche ) were SO COOL I couldn’t help but hang on their every note…
Woooow Omar Hakim and Jason Statham what a great duet
I was so much willing to write the exact same comment!! Damn! 😜👍🏻😜🤞🏼

yes we have known Omar is a great drummer for decades but who are those other incredibly talented musicians? That young guitar player is killing it!
Rachel Z on the keys is good, I saw her play live with Al DiMiola in the late 80s, this video doesn't do her playing justice. She has a solo album that's worth checking out too (maybe more).
Nice interview. Nice microphones. Nice songs and great musicians. Thanks to Sweetwater, too for making this happen!
Omar does so well what is required and that's grooving.
