Hey Tetra, thanks for tackling this unit. I find it to be a bit of a dark horse mtr, as it has great high frequency response and as this vid sorta demonstrates, they were well-made enough so that they often are still in working order to varying degrees today. The aux send/rcv system is also not half bad. It does lack the kind of warm, boosted mids/low end of DBX units like the 244/246 so can sound a bit clinical by comparison, but some folks might actually be looking for that. I lucked out with mine in that the fellow who sold it to me couldn't get it to work so I paid a parts/repair price, but after just a little tlc it came to life. That said this video being available gives me the peace of mind that I can trouble-shoot it if need be. Thanks as always 🙏🏻

Thanks. I am a sceptic about the tonal differences of models, and feel obliged to go on record as such, since IMO ascribing special sounds to certain models inflates prices and distracts from creativity: Corksniffing benefits reverb and Ebay shareholders, but not musicions or their audiences. It's my assertion that of you took 10 244s, 10 mt3xs, ran pink noise through a fourier transform and averaged the 10 results for each model, the 244 and mt3x would be so close as to be negligible. YMMV of course, and thanks as ever for paying attention to my dull niche videos x

@ Yeah, I do remember it's one of the only things we disagree on in the MTRVerse. Though honestly agreed w what you said regarding adding to inflationary attitudes on Reverb/eVilBay, thus I'm almost hesitant to ever mention. The real reason I do is bc I disagree on one other point: that is, that assuming there is some discernible character differences in the audio of a particular unit, it may grant someone the ability to achieve their sonic vision with simple cassette tape mtr's, which for some bizarre reason, is very exciting to me. And the world would be a dark, dark place without TinkeringWithTascams/TetrakanSupermonobloc/Tetrakan 📼 🙌🏻 🙏🏻

Hello. I have been watching your wonderful videos on repair and maintenance of such equipment for a long time, I do it myself, but a problem arose with tascam 424mk2, I can not find a service manual because I need a diagram. Could you give me a link to the service manual? Thank you in advance!
