Ok, ok, ok....Mimi girl you are the bomb!!! This was by far the best explanation of sewing a pencil skirt I have ever seen. Thank you so much!!!! You have a fan for life 😃
OK, I just have to scream YOU HAVE A 25 1/2' WAIST? Holy cow Mimi! No wonder you look fabulous in everything you wear and make! BTW - great little skirt, wonderful tutorial, and if you want to throw in directions on how to get that tiny waist feel free. : )
Very informative & easy video. But I want to make this skirt longer " ankle length " & I want to keep the tight fit but not after my knees " I wanna walk properly lol " ........how do I measure & cut the fabric
Girl . . . you are too many things! I love sewing now. I just love it from watching your videos. Thank you for being so generous. You will always be blessed! :)
I have been absolutely addicted to your vlogs since I randomly found you on Pinterest and I cannot wait to try out your tutorials! Now, I am a beginner and would like to do a pencil skirt but what would you suggest about fabric if I don't want it to be stretchy and be that snug? Seriously cannot wait to try out your tutorials and actually make something! you will definitely be getting a picture...if it turns out lol ^_^ Keep up the fabulous work! Lauren C.
Excellent tutorial! I've been sweating with sewing knits lately as I have been trying to worry about following a rib line to make sure the item isn't skewed (read that tip on PatterReview website) . Do you ever find it critical to do this on your knit/stretch items? I noticed you just folded it over and didn't take an hour to keep trying to line it up like I would do LOL. Sigh, to be honest when I never worried about the 'grainline' on knits, I don't recall any problems with twisting.
I love the way you have explained everything in detail. Usually the videos are rushed and it is difficult for begginers like me to follow it... I also would like to know where i can see your other videos..... and do you only do videos of skirts or cute summer dresses as well...... Thanks Mimi... You are fabulous
That was awesome. I definitely need to try this...well, with much practice ofcourse. Last year I was in desperate search for the "perfect" pencil skirt. With your video I can now get my practice on. :) haha Thanks.
Hello Mimi, liked this video..just one question...if you are working on woven fabric (not stretchy type) how would you taper the skirt so it won't look like you have "bubbles" around your hip? I am a beginner and it seems obvious but guess curves can be a challenge! Great tutorial..
Hello Mimi, Could you just sow the elastic on first then sow the skirt together? I am just curious because I am a beginner at this. Please comment back to me soon.
Hi I love your work..I am a begginer but I catch on fast..I am attaching the elastic but..I have more fabric left than elastic when I pinned before sewing..what am I doing wrong
My 15yr old daughter just made her first pencil skirt and she loves it. That made her day and she is elated. All done in 3 hours. Thank you soo much and keep going with your posts.
I do believe this is the best tutorial I have seen. It was so easy to follow and with added info. thrown in (don't look at the needle/negative ease). Thank you very much.
Great tutorial, Mimi!!! I'll be making your pencil shirt!!! I would love to make a crop top with sleeves to match. Would you please be so kind and do a tutorial on a crop top with sleeves? I have watched so many tutorials on crop tops however, you are the first person that takes the time to explain!!!
Wow! You are incredible. You make it look so easy. Thank you for inspiring us to make our own clothing. Do you have any tips on what type of machines to get?
Mimi, you are the reason i am now sewing. I brought my sewing machine this xmas. And I am sewing my tail off. I will be joining you in LA. Great tutorial.
my skirt didnt turn out this way :( i gave myself extra room and everything. i blv the fabric was stretchy but it seems as though i need spandex fabric only...
That skirt is cuuuuuuute! Totally trying this one out. Do you think you can show us how to make those cute yellow capris and striped shirt at 00:11? Thanks!
If you have a big butt will the measurements change? I would like a pencil skirt but I always have an issue with them being to tight on my hips because of my butt
YASMINEH2011 I know this is 2 years later (!) There are tutorials on here that shape the pattern - waist, hip, bum. Also, there are pattern block drafting tutorials where you add darts which help SMOOTH over the curves. I find princess line seams all the way down work really well. I know because I have a massive hip to waist ratio and bottom, my back and front pieces are different - otherwise the skirt front will dip forward, even in stretch. Hope this explains things🏵
Can you please list all the materials needed in the comment section or at the beginning of the video. This way we can follow along instead of stopping to go to Jo-Ann's :-).
I had a question if you are sewing only one side which is the side that wasnt attached when cutting out wouldnt that look funny to have only one side sewn ?
I'm going to try the new video she posted on the pencil skirt. I hope it works. Has anyone tried it without using a stretchy fabric.? Someone please tell me if it worked.
YASSSSS!!! This was great... I'm totally going to make one! Thanks for the wonderful instructions! Your sewing room is fab!! I subscribed!! Keep up the good work!
Wow! That was amazing! I am a true beginner and I can't wait to make one. I'm tall and prefer to wear my skirts knee length or just below so being able to make a pencil skirt myself will save me hours of looking for one in a shop. Have you got a tutorial on how to make a pencil skirt on a sturdier fabric with a zip?
im pretty short so i always have to buy in the petite section but its pricy. can u make a video into how to adjust pencil skirts to make them more fitted to a petite body
Mimi awesome tutorial, was wondering, what modifications do you have to make when trying to make this skirt with a "stiff" fabric, say for a Linen Pencil Skirt that you'd want to wear to work?
Thank You for this tutorial. I am trying to learn how to sew. I do have a question though--once you sew in the elastic and flip it over to the inside---do you have to stay stitch or top stitch it at all to keep it in place?
Ok, ok, ok....Mimi girl you are the bomb!!! This was by far the best explanation of

You are the best that I have seen so far...thanks for this tutorial

Hi Mimi, do you not measure for the hips? I am quite curvy.
you look like miley cyrus with black hair =)

You're so tiny and cute! :) I want to make this as soon as I get a sewing machine.

Wow Mimi...I newly subscribed to you via you Tube and you are amazing....i'm definitely going to try this. Thank you.
No it won't. As you need room for your hips, slits at the back for movement and some ease so you can 'breathe'. :)
