    Lyrics : Ayase
Translated by Konnie Aoki( / koniaoki )
Ah, so what a scene, let's do another toast to confine
Match a city, overflowing laughing voices are
Pretended fabrications of a lie, blinded eye, deception
I'm trying not to go mad
Could a, could an aroma come and feed the brain in tune
    With stimulation, reawaken inclinations
Don't know who's gonna go there today, I wonder
If I kept trying then, what can I, that cannot be done
On to the world, what can I, that cannot be done
Looking in those dark little eyes, I decide
I need to not once let your tear fall beneath
Get out to find it now, don't ever let go
The brighter future knows to reach it
Even when the world is caught and full of wrong
Keep needing ya to laugh and be free for once
No, I cannot be hurting no one
I wanted, I wanted to be stronger now
Woken to resume my need to stay the real me
So what a scene, here's to another safely passed time
Masking every new bad rumor flowing in the city
Feel the lie, feel the lie, release to turn a blind eye
    Choking on their own hysteria
Marching with an innocence, they proceed
To a location echoing the sound of feet skipping and
Feeling high, feeling high, memories of a lasting flavor
    The other side's insanity
Can you call the "standard good" a living at all
And can "nobody feeling sadder" be a living at all
How is a straighter path you could see a living at all
So let's imagine going "no mistake" as living at all
And I don't wanna live as you'd assume, be saying it's right
And artificially be living and you're saying it's right
I don't know what I'll be, and to believe this, I wonder
Want to know the truth, what I'm inside and under
    Oh, spill me the tale
    Oh, spill me the tale
Still, we reside inside a dry confusing big world
    I make a wish alone
Believe it, I just wanna be with you forever
Give me hope to be just smiling with you again
The skipping beating in my heart
Is shaking me within, and begins to shout
"Now you got to move, go make the way”
I will rise to prove the fragile little "myself"
Go bite into my own and reach it
Even when the world is caught, and full of wrong
Keep needing ya to laugh and be free for once
No, I cannot see nobody cry
I wanted, I wanted to be stronger now
Woken to resume my need to stay the real me
I'm gonna keep ya from danger, there are too many
I'm running, I'm running, I'm running for you
I will overcome what is residing for you

You could find another japanese song that translated to english, but you'll never find a translation that very well written and still hooked you up as good as the original version like Yoasobi did

The best thing about these english versions is that they have complete creative freedom. Translations focus on conveying the original lyrics in a natural way, but these English versions completely rewrite the lyrics and even add new meanings, which is something* a translator just doesn't have the freedom to do

I'm sure that it also helps that since they're the original creators, they know what they were going for with the song, unlike cover-songwriters (is there a specific name for them? I don't really know) who will have to piece the whole picture together themselves, which isn't really bad, per se, they'll just hit different most of the time.

Let's put it plain and simple
These guys MUST know English quite well. The vocalist's pronunciation was absolutely incredible, something that only comes experience in speaking the language.
And the localization was even better. It wasn't a word per word translation, but rather, an accurate translation from someone who knew both languages quite well. And they're even more of a genius for making them work seemlessly with the music.
This is the best translation/English Ver. I've seen from Japanese content. Period.

Yesn't. My prime (and only :,D) example for good pronunciation without being able to speak the language itself... Is Gawr Gura. Her singing japanese songs sounds flawless, yet she can't really speak the language (maybe that changed by now, but she's still not a confident speaker afaik).
So I can totally see Ikura not being fluent at all in english while still delivering that hard, because she is just such a good and passionate singer. Both, really. Passion makes miracles it seems.

    • @MyawMyaw01

@Syca imo there are many Southeast Asians who can cover Japanese or Korean songs, even English, without actually understanding or speaking the language. Our country even has a singer who went to China for a singing competition, covering Chinese songs when she doesn't even speak any Mandarin. Rainych, the Indonesian singer, can sing Japanese songs perfectly without speaking the language. She even does Vietnamese songs.

As a department of Foreign Language and Literature student, I had the translation class and I knew that translating a language into another is really a hard thing. It needs to consider many factors such as the different culture, tone, or the meaning behind the words. And that makes me very respect YOASOBI's English version. They did not only translate the lyrics perfectly without losing the meaning and also let the pronunciation feat the original song. The thing they did was combinations of Translation and Linguistics. And they really did a great job on it!

    Lyrics:
Ah, so what a scene, let's do another toast to confine
Match a city, overflowing laughing voices are
Pretended fabrications of a lie, blinded eye, deception
I'm trying not to go mad
Could a, could an aroma come and feed
The brain in tune with stimulation
    Reawaken inclinations
Don't know who's gonna go there today, I wonder
If I kept trying then, what can I, that cannot be done
On to the world, what can I, that cannot be done
Looking in those dark little eyes, I decide
I need to not once let your tear fall beneath
Ah, get out to find it now, don't ever let go
    The brighter future knows
To reach it even when the world is caught
And full of wrong keep needing you
To laugh and be free for once
No, I cannot be hurting no one
I wanted, I wanted to be stronger now
Woken to resume my need to stay the real me
So what a scene, here's to another safely passed time
Masking every new bad rumor flowing in the city
Feel the lie, feel the lie, release to turn a blind eye
    Choking on their own hysteria
Marching with an innocence, they proceed
To a location echoing the sound of feet skipping and
Feeling high, feeling high, memories of a lasting flavor
    The other side's insanity
    Ah...
Can you call the "standard good" a living at all?
And can "nobody feeling sadder" be a living at all
How is a straighter path, you could see a living at all?
So let's imagine going "no mistake" as living at all
And I don't wanna live as you'd assume, be saying it's right
And artificially be living and you're saying it's right
I don't know what I'll be, and to believe this, I wonder
Want to know the truth, what I'm inside and under
    Oh, spill me the tale
    Oh, spill me the tale
Still, we reside inside a dry confusing big world
I make a wish alone, believe it, I just wanna be with you forever
Give me hope to be just smiling with you again
Ah, the skipping beating in my heart
Is shaking me within, and begins to shout
"Now you got to move, go make the way"
I will rise to prove the fragile little "myself"
Go bite into my own and reach it
Even when the world is caught
And full of wrong, keep needing you
To laugh and be free for once
No, I cannot see nobody cry
I wanted, I wanted to be stronger now
Woken to resume my need to stay the real me
I'm gonna keep you from danger
There are too many, I'm running
I'm running, I'm running for you
I will overcome what is residing for you

Listening to it several times on Spotify told me what great talent the artist showed in the composition of lyrics. What surprised me the most was that the English lyrics stand for the idea shown in the Japanese lyrics, without letting you know that English and Japanese are different languages. Listening to the Japanese lyrics will help you understand the concept of the music and enjoy the music more. Besides, people all over the world can enjoy the music. I really appreciate this work.

This is the best translation of a song I've ever heard. Amazing. I'm awed. I want to say I'm speechless but I want to keep rambling about how amazing this actually is.

I’ve listened to the original hundreds of times, this is undoubtedly the best English translation of a Japanese song. The melody and cohesion was immaculate, it felt like the original. 10/10 English rendition.
