Dean had so many great Musicians on his shows; Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr., Lena Horne, Bill Basie, & on and on. I miss those days.
Dean Martin was pretty talented, but its hard to imagine a time during which you could simply turn on the TV and see someone like Duke Ellington perform, when musical genius like his was part of casual popular taste. How cool.
After seeing Buddy dance, I now know why he was he was chosen to be the original Scarecrow in "The wizard of Oz"; prior to Ray Bolgers having the part.

They believe the jokes about him drinking are real no matter how many times it has been debunked. As a former dancer now retired, I can honestly say it cannot be done drunk without messing up the show. He was a consummate performer and very professional.

no one I knew my age in the 70's knew who Duke E was. I knew who he was because I was learning how to play Jazz piano.
