Those components next to the connector are not resistors but "beads" (small-value inductors) You don't have to particularly praise Wiha for having such a 4mm swappable bit set. There are a dime a dozen wherever you look, and I have an 11 year old no-name brand case here that I use a lot and still doesn't show any signs of wear.
I guess I overlooked that it's an indicator. Most of the time I see 0ohm resistors on most boards. Whatever they are, they fail same way after TVS goes

How do you know the resistors what their resistance is because I think they are not listed on the printed circuit and the diode is not listed either, is it possible to connect normal diodes and resistors? What is the power that can go through them? Thanks

take'n that diode out of circut ..to stop the short ..i have watched many hours of tv and radio repair same test tech but on a micro level ..wild to see the head's replaced on the last video was something...it all started in the 70's head crashes on huge platter drives ..they try to rubild those heads as well ..our grandparents were deep into tech even then ..
i have a 4tb WD drive that won't spin up. thought it was the PCB so ordered a new one, but it still doesn't spin up. i don't have data on it, to recover, so at this point it's just a 'can i do it'... there is no noise when it's connected, i checked the cable with another drive and the heads aren't parked on the disk. anything i can do? it's already buggered, so not like i can make it MORE not working! thanks for any help. btw, what is with WD drives. i have seagates that last for years and years, but wd drives, either the drive or the usb connectors seem to sh*t the bed within a couple years.
it's a protection diode, it's like removing a bodyguard from a shop, the shop will still work, clients (data) will still come in. But if that bodyguard is drunk (defective diode) then the clients will not come to the shop, the shop (HDD) will not work.
The Wiha tools are very nice tools indeed. Would have liked to see the rest of the recovery-proces. It's so cool how you do it.

Usually bits are held in with a magnet. Do you worry about data getting damaged for screwdrivers that use magnets?

Those 1.5TB drives are dangerous, I had 3 all die within a week of each other. I don’t trust them at all.
