In the days before electric pumps, Volkswagens of this era used air pressure from the spare tire to operate the windshield washer! There was a tube that ran from the washer reservoir and was connected to the spare tire's valve. Needless to say, the spare had to have adequate pressure for the windshield washer to operate.

Ich sah wenige alte Autos und nur EIN Type 3 wagen wahrend 2 wochen..UND Nur ein type 1 und Keine type 2. Ich sah Kevin autos von die sibziche Jahre. Jehmann fahrtet neue Autos.

Fuel tank in the front. Fail.
Had a 73 Squareback. Never gave the fuel tank placement a second thought. No worse than the Pinto rear placement. Dont think VW was ever sued over it.
There's no room in the back for a fuel tank.
