As we slowly approach 2023 NFL free agency, along with the 2023 NFL Draft, there was a lot curiosity as to what Ryan Poles & the Chicago Bears front office would do with their #1 overall pick in the draft, along with who they’d pursue in free agent targets. And well, after pulling off the blockbuster trade they did with the Carolina Panthers, there’s much more to this than I think most people are assuming.
First off, the addition of the future draft picks would be enough to make this trade a win, but adding WR DJ Moore to the arsenal of Justin Fields is insane for HC Matt Eberflus. Because now with expanding this team’s ability to attack on offense, along with already present threats in Darnell Mooney, Chase Claypool, and even the run game of David Montgomery & Khalil Herbert with free agency still looming, Justin Fields will be in a much better situation to say the least in the future already.
But now, with also having the ability to load up the Chicago Bears either on offense or defense in the 2023 NFL Draft, Ryan Poles will be searching all options in potential guys like Myles Murphy, Paris Johnson Jr, Peter Skoronski, etc, along with the Bears free agency signings already in G Nate Davis,LB Tremaine Edmunds, and even TJ Edwards, Chicago’s highly anticipated 2023 offseason is already looking to be off to an incredible start. But we’ll still have to see what’s in store.

Who woulda thunk it!! The Bears have been plagued by horrible ownership since George died! I can't wait for Virginia to peacefully die in her sleep and hopefully her loser sons sell it to someone that knows football and cares about winning. At least we seem to have lucked out on an amazing front office after Ted Phillips and Mike McCaskey stepped down.
What this means is I will definitely be drafting Fields for my fantasy team this year.

@@shake6321 That's not the point, The bears were so close in lots of games and then very weirdly started making dumb decisions almost as if they were tanking. They had no right to have the record they had when they are better then other teams with better records. Which makes them having a top 5 pick pretty undeserved comparatively.
@@frankdobs the bears have a lot of talent but also are horrible in many important areas - most notably, they cant pass and have the worst dline in the NFL. that will help you lose a lot of games. even now, with all the players they have added, they could lose a ton of games because they dont have 1 single NFL quality starter on dline.

our dline is the worst in the NFL. and we still have no idea if justin fields can actually pass the football. if fields becomes a legit passer we can compete for a playoff spot next year. if he can’t pass the bears might be picking first again next year. that’s how important qb and dline are to an NFL team.

I’ve been a bears fan for years and this is something I haven’t seen before from Chicago. I love it, make significant moves In the draft and with that cap space make some smart moves in FA. It will be fun to watch them this season.
I thought our offense was good enough to win 90% of our games last year. But if our defense can’t keep the other teams from scoring more then 20 a game. We really had a slim chance.
Most defenses aren’t keeping teams from scoring 20 a game in this nfl or at least aren’t keeping good teams from doing so. You need a offense that can keep up with those elite offenses. Look at the Super Bowl score 😊
We had the WORST PASSING IN THE LEAGUE and the ONLY reason our running attack was ANY better is because our QB rushed for 1,000 yards.

@Mike B factual. Our offense was painful to watch at times. We lost so many games last year because we simply couldn't score the football. Justin played well but he needs to make huge improvements in THROWING the football. Hopefully this trade will help.

Added Nate Davis, Tremaine Edmunds, TJ Edwards, and DJ Moore, that's a good start, but need more help on both lines and another receiver and probably some help at corner.
I agree definitely need another corner I think Gordon is better in the slot and I think jaylon is more of a #2 corner. But still need that 3 technique badly.

They're not done looking through free agency yet, and whatever they can't address in FA will be done in the draft.

Die hard Bears fan. The MVP of the whole thing is Lovie! lol you’ll never convince me he didn’t know what he was doing! So far things look great for the Bears future but being a Bears fan my whole life I’m cautiously optimistic. None of this will matter if we don’t hit on those draft picks.
I mean the rumors of Poles trading down in the near future were very prevalent in the last couple weeks. It’s finally nice to have a GM that makes moves that are rational.
People forget that the Bears lost about 6ish games by one score or they were really close the whole way, literally a not fumbling here or not dropping a ball here couldve meant a handful of more victories but if u arent a Bears fan u missed all of that

Best start to a draft in Bears history. Wow. If they get an awesome pass rusher, they could win 10+ games assuming healthy. Should make playoffs. They must have a dominant defense….offense should be fine.
Think about it. Mooney, moore, claypool can play wr #1 in any situation. Those 3 can be reliable wr1, wr2, wr3 if the chemistry there. Confused defenses. You have to double 2 of those 3 guys. Cause they all are capable of terrorizing defenders 1 on 1, with speed and separation. Let's not forget about kmet. You talk about taking tops off defense i think chicago has it.

Bears got hosed by the refs in 3-4 games that they lost, while it sucked at the time, getting number 1 pick and the bounty it brought certainly has eased that pain….

Very impressed we got edmunds… he was who I wanted bears to draft at 8 in 2018. I was in no way disappointed in roquan, he was one of the best players I’ve seen in a bears uniform in years. But I still wanted edmunds. Now we still get edmunds. Young freak sideline to sideline player. Just crazy to watch it come full circle. Sure do miss roquan tho 😅

Despite this drastic improvement in the WR room, we still have yet to address the horrific Oline. We need to protect fields (sacked 55 times) so he can stay in the pocket and get the ball out. Hopefully Poles fixes this thru the draft

Poles is doing a great job of rebuilding this team .
Not to mention that the Bears got Carolina to come off of Moore, but then they came back and picked up one of the best RB's in the league last year. Carolina got fleeced.

Poles is on fire DJ is the perfect WR1 he'll take pressure off Claypool Mooney Kmet and the running game less blitzing the fronts of the offense and defense need to get some help but the rest of the team is A+++ and they still have at least 50 million left after picking up 3 superstars and I star Poles is heaven sent
Based on what I've seen and what I expect in the remainder of free agency, and allowing for no major injuries to key players, I expect the Bears to win ten or eleven games.

I've been looking at mocks since the trade and a lot of them have skoronski going to us at 9. Dline is still a huge need but I also think we need to be 100% sure on fields after this year. Putting him in the best situation is critical. What do u guys think?
I’d b happy if we got Peter skoronski or Paris Johnson, either way if we got like devon Witherspoon, ringo, or Gonzalez that’s a W at the 9th pick.

The Bears are going to have a favorable schedule on the games out of the AFC division that the NFC North will play. This will benefit the team like back in 2018. I expect them to be a 11-6 teams this year.
Obviously the main point here is having an improved D, because with a terrible team on the games that Fields played the team score avg was close to 30 points.

DJ will be a great help to the Bears, I was hoping they could have solidified the line more and maybe take Njigba at 9 because we still 1 more receiver. But now hopefully they just continue to build online, and get pass rushers. Bears Secondary is pretty solid, could use one more corner.
I love jsn so much, been a fan of him since he played in high school as well as Ohio state but I feel like we should get a receiver in the later rounds as there’s actually a lot of options like rashee rice, tank dell, Josh downs n flowers, or maybe even Bryce ford Wheaton who popped off at the combine. I’d say getting a cb or oline is more important now

Listen..as a bears fan, it's crazy what we are seeing rn. Poles has solo'd the NFL and ya'll are about to witness a juggernaut wake up, not 1 bears team has ever rely'd on their offense more than this one and we are known to be a dominant defensive football team. Sure not every bears defense is dominant. This team is the most exciting thing I've seen since B Marsh. Luke Gesty is our only hope, he really needs to open up fields. God daumn I'm excited to see what's gonna happen this season.
Now all we have to do is get the OLine together maybe in the plays switch 3 tight end offense and I’m still concerned by the secondary but I think we will be good, I’m curious to see the system come together

All the Bear moves hinge on Fields being the real deal. As a passer the jury is still out.

Bears fans have every reason to be excited. They need a lot of help on D...but a funny thing...if you can score more points on O...then it is weird...but the D steps up and plays better too. Ate they a playoff team this year? Nah. But they now have the ability on any given day to beat any given team. That's huge. Between the Bears and Lions...I can easily see a change of guard happening

Finally no more Mom and Pop business, the Bears look legit from top to bottom. Look out
Darnell Mooney is a good player and he plays hard, but he's not the type of receiver who can carry a passing game by himself, and once he got hurt what little passing offense they had totally collapsed. Fields (unfairly) took a lot of heat for the lack of production and while he did have his share of responsibility, if you watched him every week, he was really just forced to try to things happen all by himself (with mediocre-at-best pass protection) with varying degrees of success. Now that Moore is taking over that role, Mooney can do what he does best and stretch the linebackers in zone coverage or take the top off defenses so other guys can make plays. Claypool is of course still a question mark but it was really asking a lot of him to come in mid-season and make an impact on that anemic roster, hopefully we'll know more about him once training camp starts. They definitely will need to invest heavily in the OL and DL in the draft too.
Got to go hard on O line, D Line and CB. Ekeler trade would be a perfect addition to this offense but would have to depend on compensation. Their defense at this point is going to come down to pass rush.
The problem is fields doesn't play good in cold weather. And mmm it's chicago. It's cold

I think the best thing that can happen NOW is assuring that DLine looks good but other than that idk what else we could do tbh. We get what we need on the O line side with the 7 pick (hopefully)

Love the move. Hoping it works. Being objective Fields release time is concerning. Even when slant is quick open he is not quick to release. So we will see. If it doesn't work we likely will have two early first round picks next year. Poles not putting his career on one guy. Smart.
Some of that is doubtless that his receivers never get seperation.
That said, it IS his biggest flaw and time will tell if he gets better.

I think the bears def need to attack both the defense and offensive line positions in the draft. I am a big fan of poles sticking to his guns and not overpaying, finding good young players that fit the scheme in team friendly deals. 🐻⬇️

Without a solid healthy talented offensive line and a defensive line I'm predicting 5-12 or 6-11 record. As much as I love the Bears, you need several great players on a team, or guys who just really to want to win despite having a mediocre team roster. DJ moore is a good addition to the team and brings a fresh air of optimism for sure. However, I'm not sold on us going 12-5 or 10-7 for that matter. I hope I end up being wrong with my prediction, and we're one of the surprise story team of the 2023 season and make the playoffs. In the NFL you never know, it's an unpredictable league sometimes.

Bleeding Blue and Orange, I know this year's draft/free agent signings will not change the Bears win/list Talley at the end of the 2024 year. It will take 4 years to get this all together for a Super Bowl run. When Da Coach came here, he said, "give me four years and I'll take you to the Dance." They did it in a bigtime way. At that time there was very limited free agent signings. They did it all thru the draft. Free agent signing is a very unknow reach. You're paying a guy more money than he's worth 90% of the time and that might be just because he had a "breakout" year. That's not comforting for me. It all comes down to getting those draft picks right! Richard Dent was a 9th round pick!!!! It can be done. Don't blow all your money on free agents this year. Go BEARS
