Hello! I am a retired brazilian professor lady living in America now. I teach brazilian portuguese language and culture for Special Forces. Love your videos. I have just prepared my own version of your chicken supreme. Thanks for sharing. I love forests and outdoors. We have huge thunder storms in Brazil. I really mean it: HUGE!!! Thank you Sir! Thank you! Every night you make me dream and travel with your excursions. Scary forests though! LOL...
I’m old ! In my experience you make your fire backwards. I have always put my firestarter down first and built my kindling up next and then the larger wood. Your way works good for you. “Different strokes” ! Love you and Susie and your adventures.😊
I just love the sound of rain, thunder, lighting. When I was about 5/6 yrs old I used to get up from sleep crack my bedroom window and listen to the storms,,,,,still love it. I live in Jacksonville Florida and when storms hit I go out onto my huge balcony with a cup of coffee. Love it!!
You're a lot luckier than I am when it comes to the weather. If it were me, i''d be all smiles and good times listening to the rain and thunder. And then the rain would subside to quarter sized hail, andt he final blow would be a microburst that picks up the entire campsite, and sends it scattered and tattered the length of a couple football fields long.
I love your videos, positive attitude, laugh, and ability to adjust to any circumstances and make the best of any situation. I could listen to the rain and thunder all day. Strength and honor. You are the man! Lunch sounds good.
I have to admit he came up with some great idea's like in the summertime a tarp and just a tent inner with mesh. Excellent airflow and you can adjust the tarp to the conditions. Never thought of that but it's a smart idea for sure.
Can't blame him few things more relaxing than the sound of rain on a tarp out in the wild's. But you are correct, Luke prefers the bad weather for some reason.
I bet I'm not the only one who wouldn't mind you leaving in about 5-30 minutes of that view from under the tent just looking out at and listening to that rain ;)
I love rain & thunderstorms! I get my best sleep at those times. I found myself nodding off listening to the rain hitting your tarp. Thank you for always sharing your journey & your honesty. Stay safe & see ya next time😊
The last time that I went camping for 4 x nights. It rained like that for 3 days non stop. As I was deep in the bush, and only with a 2-wheel drive car, so I had to bail. Thankfully I was in a hammock, so I didn't mind the rain. Love it Luke.
Luke, I just love your videos of you out in storms, with a big tarp over you and your cooking, while the storm is going on and you talk . I just love these videos. I to love camping out in the rain and storms. Keep up the good work...Vernon
Looks like a perfect day to me!! I would have to get my frog togs on, and walk around checking stuff out, I love walking through the woods in the rain!!
Hi Luke and Susie, really enjoy your camping video’s, I am from NC myself, but currently reside in Texas. Hope your son s doing well in college, and your daughter is doing well in the Navy. We thank her for her service to our country. May God bless you and your family Luke.
That might be the most mind boggling story you have ever told..I almost spit my drink all over myself from laughter..was NOT expecting the punchline..another great fact of the outdoors vid..love this channel!
Dude, sometimes the trips that turned out like this one can be the best therapy! Mother nature has other plans for you. A day in the rain under a tarp is magical to me!
I get happy when I find a video you have out. That is what I watch before I go to sleep, it really claims me an I have a very peaceful sleep. So stay safe an happy. God bless you and your family. See you on your next adventure ✨️ 😀
Luke, I love it when you give both your viewers and the thunder a cheers with your coffee. The chicken looks great. I'll try it soon. I have always liked using a wood fired stove. I still have and use my ZipZtove that I have had ever since I hiked the A.T. back in the 90's 🙂
You made a small version of a casserole I make for my family. When it rains like this when we’re camping I love it! We would huddle up under the screen house and tarp and play games and have a great time. My four kids are most of the way grown and have moved on to new adventures, I still hold these memories in my heart. Thanks for sharing.
I just realized that part of what makes these videos so awesome and atmospheric is how well your choice of color grading really enhances the misty hazy green splendor of those woods. Great work!
Under a tarp in the rain is my favorite video...the point of hiking, to me, is to get to a nice place to camp. Thanks, Luke! All the best to you and the family...
The sound of the rain on the tarp is so relaxing. A bit of concern about lightning striking in the trees around you though. We have woods around our house and have lost several trees due to lightning.
There is nothing you can do about lightning strikes. The tallest,, or the best grounded is the one at risk. If on a golf course,, few trees but some tall,,, bad choice to shelter under one. Golf course and YOU are the only one with a bag of metal clubs,, not good.. on a sailboat shelter under the boom. In a forest,, all trees the same height,, no different risk than sitting at home. I agree,, sitting under the tarp in the rain,, hot coffee or soup,, a book to read,,, Wonderful. Don't stretch your tarp on the biggest tree,,,, go out,, enjoy
Who cares if the plan didn’t happen. You were out in the woods. You were prepared. Sitting under tarp. Drink & food. 👏👏👍. Thank you for bringing us along.
Thank you so much Luke, I appreciated this video so much, as I am fighting covid and this helped me to get some much needed rest, I always enjoy the sound of rain and storms!! Strength & Honor my friend 👍
Thx for the chicken recipe, love the recipes and love truck camping videos best when you cook up gourmet meals and have Susie with you. Love also to Lucas & Maddie 💜💜💜

I really like the fact that you are very descriptive when you are discussing your locations as well as the kind of camping gear you are using. I find your videos fun. Interesting, and informative. I just wanted to say that I subscribe to your channel about a couple days ago or maybe a week or two one of those two I just wanted to say I love your videos and I’m going through a hard time it’s relaxing to watch your videos into listen to your stories I love your content keep it up you I want to go out and do what you do this would make my day if you see this comment thank you so much have a nice day strength and honor 🥰🥰🥰
Hi Luke I knew I would love this one there is sonething fantastic about being able to manage the situation in heavy rain and stay protected that I just love a tarp is a fantastic bit of kit to never be without .that forest is fantastic
Great video Luke, really enjoyed this one. The thunder and the sound of the rain hitting the tarp, brilliant. That was some storm. Oh and finally bought some merch from your store. Looking forward to it landing in the UK. Take care and all the best.
The wonderful sounds of the rain and the beauty of the fog was amazing. And even though the house was gone, I'm glad they left the tree. That food looked amazing. I copied the recipe and will give it a try. Thanks for sharing your time
Cannot imagine his pain! I dear friend of mine was killed on his HD TRI GLIDE yesterday while out doing good deeds with his Christian Group …. We are never promised tomorrow! Let’s enjoy today! Love enjoying my days with Luke and Susie!
That same chicken dish was a staple in our house when I was growing up. I had completely forgotten about it until now. Thank you for reminding me, can't wait to make it again.
So happy to see you cooking meals with fresh ingredients! Packaged freeze-dried MRE’s are something I swore off after many months in the field while in the Army.
Luke👍👍 You ever get tired of just hanging out under a tarp in rain storms?, you've certainly done it plenty lately😊 Personally, if I've got dry wood, I'm good and I always build a small fire under the tarp in a hobo style stove. Love rain in the mountains/forest, smells so good and makes it quieter by far. The saving grace for this episode was the chicken dinner cooked over the hobo stove under the tarp, have done this dozens of times myself, perfect. Mother Nature has her ways of "raining" on your parade, wouldn't have it any other way though. Thanks for the trip, filming, chat and bringing us along, much enjoyed. See ya next time.
Love your videos, we are in the Mountains of Northern New Mexico presently. We have a nice 42 ft fifth wheel but I bring a tent and air mattress where I sleep most nights. Telling you this because I so love the sound of rain hitting the tent and rumble of Thunder. Stay safe my friend.
Watching TOGR make that stove wood fire reminded me, has anyone out there ever read the short story by Jack London; "To Build A Fire:? Circa 1902. Great post here, as usual from TOGR. And I have to say, as a rain-loving hiker, no other outdoors website posts more rain-themed videos than TOGR. Thanks much!
Chicken Supreme... first of those casserole meals that actually looks good to me. I'm going to try it. Great video, regardless of the change in the weather. Thanks for sharing and happy camping!!
"Forced to hunker down,," No. Those rain days are some of the BEST. Set your tarp. Make sure you have food, chair, essentials,, and books. Under a tarp.. hot coffee,, camp food, time to read,, and rain pattering down around,,,, Heaven. Absolute heaven.
@@diamonddiva3204 Just ta make you jealous,,, on the road ,, I bagged a turned in permit for the Green River, Desolation/Gray Canyons Canoe, 100 miles of middling rapids (mostly IIs and IIIs) 9 days of heaven. Permit launch date is the 14th.
Lucky you, getting rain almost every day. Thank you, Luke for taking your time, effort, & equipment to share this adventure with lil ole MEeee. Warm Regards from Reno, Nevada.
Nice big rain/thunder storm sure came down, I love the sound of the rain. and agree always good to be prepared as one never can tell what can happen in any season in my case . Your meal looked superb Yum! going to have to try that. thanks for the recipe. Thanks for bringing us along
Back when I could trek thru the woods here in Eastern NC, I always enjoyed when it rained. I would get a bit concerned with the amount of lightning many of the storms produced, but luckily I was never zapped. Several years ago while working with the Army on Camp Mackall, two of our troops awaiting an opening in training and a senior cadre member were nailed by lightning. One of the the students was leaning against a dead pine tree when it was struck. The other student and the cadre got popped by the lightning as it radiated out from the tree thru the ferns. Everything was wet so the conductivity was high. No one was killed but it caused some medical problems. There is no better sound than that of the rain hitting a tarp. It is even a better situation, when like you are doing in the video, being up underneath it out of the down pour, you can make a fire, enjoy a cup of coffee or two and just relax. It was nice carrying ones house in a rucksack.
What cool scenes, with you underneath the tarp, getting darker outside, rain coming down strong, storm sounds, and the beauty of the dense forest all around. I can see why you love these trips so much. Nothing to apologize about this trip, it was enjoyable to watch and of course, listen to what you had to say!
Some onions & peppers with that chicken supreme would've been awesome!! Another great time regardless of the last minute change of plans due to the weather. Spontaneous and unpredictable is always way more fun!! Thanks, Luke!!
Dude; you rule! Truly. You're videos are always amazing. I am thankful you give advice on gear and ways of the outdoor life. And thanks for the recipe in this video. I may have found something for my dad to try.
I keep cotton balls covered in Vaseline in zip lock bags or in old prescription bottles for fire starters and another type is the old lint from the dryer to use too. I've used the lint to get my fireplace started many times.
@TheOutdoorGearReview this is my favorite videos of all time. It's super amazing to see you just adjust your activities according to nature w/o letting it bum you out one bit. It's wonderful to see the filming you've done here. Super cool stove too!!! THANK YOU for this video!!! 🙏
Being from Indiana my majority XP is in the Smokies, when camping there every single day around 11:00am to 1:00PM or so you could sit back and watch the clouds descend down from the mountain tops. Then you would almost invariably dump some rain generally a light rain and then nothing but they could pick up a bit. I do mean that happened every single day by my recollection of most trips.
One thing about the storms, Luke. You have a great proving ground to test out camping gear! I'll give you that! I lived in the rain for over 60+ years and finally decided to move to a bit drier climate East of the Cascades in Washington State. Being a Pacific Northwet native, I grew up with moss on me if I didn't keep moving. Looks like you have to deal with the same and hot humidity as well. I'm content to watch your videos in this weather than live it myself. Thanks for sharing these adventures with all of us! 😉😆
hey there luke, thanks for those videos i absolutely love them! its a great inspiration for me to try and get more in touch with nature again and appreciate the simple things more! keep up the great work, lovely greetings from germany
I love it! You are using one of my stoves! I bought it to be a wind shield for my spirit stove and to act as backup in case I did not have enough fuel for the stove on an extended trip. It is nice being able to have a fire, and as you could see the rain did not deter the stove one Witt! Yhat's the kind of camping I love to do. Rain or shine, tarp and hammock, little wood stove to cook upon. The only thing I lack is a back packable camp chair and table. The hammock can serve as the chair though, but not close to a fire. Really loved seeing you fix a meal on the stove too. Sounded really tasty. Thanks!

Luke, I can’t tell you how much I love watching you camp. I miss it so much but since I’ve been ill I do my camping through your videos. Thank you.
Let's face it Luke, you love getting "stuck" under tarps in big storms.😆

Rain or shine, tarp and hammock, little wood stove to cook upon. The only thing I lack is a back packable camp chair and table. The hammock can serve as the chair though, but not close to a fire. Really loved seeing you fix a meal on the stove too. Sounded really tasty. Thanks!
Wow, it's just gorgeous!
I loved your choice of music at the end, and of course I also love your Taster's Nasty content.
An old military axom is "NO PLAN EVER SURVIVES CONTACT". Being highly adaptable is a valuable asset.
Thanks! Keep up the amazing work.
Thank you for the support Shawn, hope you are doing well.
