    Excellent product! I have it. Do not go without the SA-SW5 subwoofer. Sony offers two different subs, but the cheaper of the two falls short. Get the top of the line sub sold for this product. You will not be disappointed! Amazing and wonderful sound! Tis also adds a connection for a center channel. I will be looking to Sony to supply the right center channel speaker for this model that connects to the exact connector on the back.

    The most immersive wireless speakers at the moment! Sold my bose 900 setup for this and its worth it! I had more drop outs and problems in bose than this, tip for the dropout issue, connect directly the devices to hdmi in of the a9 receiver, just use an hdmi switch if you have more device, you will most likely experience drop out if you will rely from the tv , and also make sure the 4 speakers have a clear line of sight from the receiver for a solid connection!

    • @gnevos
      @gnevos 3 роки тому +4

      The AVR is already integrated with this model. I think they have something special with their integrated mic and DSP. If they made larger floor standing models and allowed you to add more speakers for a dedicated center it would be game over for separates. Outside of a true $10k+ dedicated home theater there'd be no need to waste your time buying a bunch of components to mix and match.

    Great video. I’m just wondering out loud, but what is more important - the sound your system produces, or how your system looks? I’ve got a, albeit very poorly, Senheisser Ambeo Max bar which is normally quite good but my wife describes as a ‘chunk of a bar and I don’t like it’.
    Personally I would prefer something that sounds great and fits my irregular shaped room that my Ambeo isn’t best suited to.

    Hate to burst your bubble, but you weren't actually using the S-Center channel on the A80J, you had it plugged into the headphones jack instead of the S-Center input (yellow one above it).
    I made the same mistake at first and was wondering why when I ran the speaker test the TV wouldn't register, I then swapped them and it started working. The HT-A9 does such a good job at creating a phantom center most probably have done the same thing and haven't even realized.

    I bought this, the larger sub and a 55" A80J for my living room with terrible acoustics - open concept kitchen adjacent, irregular shape and open hallways on two sides. I gotta say, using the center channel and the A9 satellites create a way better than expected sound. The only issue I've run into is with the TV's HBO app. For whatever reason, I get audio cut outs watching movies only on this app. Messed with various settings to no avail. I thought it might even been heat related since the little control box was quite warm so I elevated it with stick on feet but I continue to get cut outs that require a reboot. At this point I'm just hoping for a software update.

      Heres the best practices to fix audio dropouts: 1) Move the speaker that has any audio drop outs away from the wireless LAN router or other wireless devices.
      Set-up the control box and speakers at a distance of 5 feet or more from the wireless LAN router. It also may be improved by changing the direction or the antenna's angle of the wireless LAN router.
      2.) Set "Wireless Playback Quality" to "Connection".
      "Setup" then select "Advanced Settings" then "Speaker Settings" then "Wireless Speaker Settings" then set the "Wireless Playback Quality" to "Connection".
      3.) Reset "RF Channel".
      "Setup" then select "Advanced Settings" then "Speaker Settings" then "Wireless Speaker Settings" then set "RF Channel to "Off", then set to "On".
      Also every-time you move any of the speakers or the control box you need to go through the basic set-up again.

    My A80J arrives tomorrow and I have the new (Costco) Klipsch Cinema 5.1.4 system (currently on sale) ready to unbox and set up as well. I really hate that the A80J can't be used as a center channel except with only a few specific Sony systems, but the A90J can. This bugs me so much that I'm wondering if I'm going to want to upgrade to an A90J.. but then there's no way I can justify the price difference especially because it's not available in 77" so I'd have to go up to the ~$6000 83" or down to 65, neither appealing options. So I'm looking at the Sony options but I just can't imagine even this system would be close to as good as the Klipsch Cinema paired with an actual receiver (got the Denon S760H also from Costco for an affordable $450 even though it's 7 channel so I'll miss out on the extra two up firing Atmos speakers) for a total cost of $1200, which is still quite a bit less than this Sony system which doesn't even include a sub. I could even return this new set and get the highly regarded Costco Klipsch tower 5.0.2 set plus a 12" sub for about the same as this Sony (after again including the $450 receiver). After watching this review I still feel confused. My first attempt at a "real" home theater setup.. I'm sure it will be great but I feel like I won't be taking advantage of the highly regarded built in sound of the A80J. But seems silly to forgo a full surround system just to be able to use the TV as center channel like I'd prefer, right? Or maybe I'll start looking for a good deal on an A90J.. Thoughts anyone?

    • @tud7732

      I’m in the exact same situation. Bought the 77“ A80J for ~$3.000. Jumping to the almost $6.000 A90J seems nuts. Trying to decide between a classic setup vs the HT-A9 or even the Q950A since I can get that one for a little more than a grand really. I would love to have a clean setup, so the HT-A9 seems so appealing. Haven’t made up my mind yet after watching so many reviews about it.

    • @HenryBabcock
      @HenryBabcock 3 роки тому

      @@tud7732 yeah it's tough. I don't really need the receiver for anything besides the sound system even though it's really good for HDMI pass through so in a way that's overkill as well. And like you point out, a simple, clean system is appealing. Though I'm a little concerned about these being wireless speakers, requiring line of sight. Are they going to cut out at times? They already each have to be plugged into the wall so why not have wires to a receiver (powering them) instead. I guess I won't know how I feel into I test out the Costco 5.1.4 set for a while (I'll be running it as 5.1.2 since it would be crazy to spend +$1000 for a 9 channel receiver just for 2 additional wimpy Atmos up firing speakers).

    • @nichsc2198
      @nichsc2198 2 роки тому

      Hey, im in the same position between the Klipsch Cinema 5.1.4 system (this is the one with side and back speaker having an up firing monitor right?), the sony HT-A9 and a full Sonos setup. How are you finding the Klipsch speakers? im super tempted by them but they seem to be hard to find....

    • @HenryBabcock
      @HenryBabcock 2 роки тому

      @@nichsc2198 yes that's the ones. That system still seems like a good option for everything in a box (but receiver), especially if you can get it on sale. Because of the Klipsch 50% off sales that were going on, I ended up gradually upgrading every individual part of mine to better Klipsch ones, and after a lot of tweaking the system (crossovers, etc, still not quite done!), I'm quite happy with it. I then returned that 5.1.4 Costco set. I got Reference towers (r820f), rears (r51m) and front Atmos heights (R41SA) and a Reference Premier center (rp500c) for better dialogue in movies etc. And ended up with two 12" subs, one r120sw and one r12sw. With smart shopping (some items were Best Buy Open Box - Excellent, the center was used from Ebay) and sales I got all of this for around $1350 after tax and including using about $150 in best buy points. Maybe $1400 with wire, clips, board for custom surround shelves, etc. This system is similar to the Costco Klipsch 5.0.2 Reference Theater set which Costco has on sale for 800 (sold out online), but with upgraded versions of each part and the 2 added subs. I do like having the two Atmos as separate from the towers, so I can high wall mount them if I want (currently just have them on top of the towers but intend to). By the way the 10" sub that comes with the 5.1.4 set is pretty nice, it's basically a r100sw. But testing it with the 12" back and forth I did notice deeper bass tone from the 12". I use my 2x 12" at around 3.5/10 gain and it's plenty for my small space. At the end of the day I still feel like that 5.1.4 set is a really good option for a bit less $ and much less trouble than I went through. I would probably want to add a 12" sub for just a bit more of a movie theater like bass feel, but that's me. Some might not want their room filled with huge speakers. Hope this helps and good luck!

    I dislike the center channel sync because it locks one into SONY TV Universe... they should allow other companies sound bars or TV's to be implemented as the "Center Channel" as part of any existing system consumers already have.. AND sell their own center channel bar or just like in any Pseudo sound implementation the phantom channels, in this case the center channel especially, will be left lacking. We all know the center channel.."IS" and has been the only sound source most consumers have had... and where most dialog is placed. Leaving this channel up to DSP, and not having dedicated Center speaker, is where this system will be found to have a gap.. a huge mistake by Sony. Especially when one considers how many ear positions ones guests will have... and that Pseudo / phantom channels will never be able to simulate successfully for all those positions. Also the fact that for "regular" television watching (news, sitcoms, sports) many will not want all the speakers active All the time... but to just be able to revert back to a nice front sound bar soundstage. Hopefully they are already working on the firmware update to add their center channel speaker upgrade.
