    After having no luck trying to do OBD key programming on CAS3+ ISTAP cas modules, it was time to work out how to do a bench eeprom BDM read of the cas data. With an R270 and Bimtool we are getting close..... i think.

    R270 will read the flash and eeprom on cas modules You don't want to touch anything on the flash ,all your cars data is on the eeprom so that is where you make changes for keys ,vin, mileage ,etc. Soldering on a cas3+ you have to be very careful with soldering on one capacitor wire #24 ,more then a few seconds with a soldering iron will melt the end of cap away, . The R270 will read a encrypted cas3+ with insta p no problem unless it's a cas3+ with 0m23s microprocessor but your vvdi or Bim tools will read that no problem. I think the cas3+ with the om23s micro came out and was used for the last model year of the E90 and E70 X5/X6 only .

      Do i really have to soldered encrypted cas in order to be able to read cas 3's eeprom? I am attempting to program a new key by the means of downgrading but for some reason it's blocked because of the new firmware installed in the update. I have Bmw Explorer and Key reader and ICOM

    I love spaghetti on my circuit boards! You are becoming quite the E90 wizard. I own an f30 but find more interest in your channel than most f30 channels. Really hope you guys add an f30 to your lineup one day, though. 🤟

      Thanks Chris. We really would like to get in to an f series soon. They are getting cheaper and they make a nicer daily even if they don’t have the power of the N54.

      @@ZeroTo60Tube then you can start playing with Chinese E-Sys software and really brick some F series shit😂😂😂😂 I love the anxiety coming through when doing dumb software stuff, it's beeping, ITS BEEPING!!! Oh god, I think I have to go to the bathroom now... been there so many times.

    I found a reliable way to read CAS with r270. After you heat the MCU, just let it cool for 20+ minutes. After that, everything reads fast and smooth and doesn't require any additional heat

    If it needs heat it usually means you have a cold solder joint. Instead of heat gun put a halogen bulb about 70 mm away from the board for 20 minutes untill it reflows the solder.

    Understanding how heat affects the chip is the same as understanding the EKP module failures.

    I use to mod the Xbox360 back in the day, it was super annoying to read and write to them if you didn't do a good job soldering. Get some leaded solder, go crazy with the flux and make sure each connection has a shiny finish. It's hard to tell in the video, but if they're dull in colour the reason the heat is probably helping is because you have cold solder joints. You can tell they're cold if they don't have that shiny finish. Make sure to clean off the board with some isopropyl afterwards so the flux doesn't eat away at the board.

    Your iron probably wasn't hot enough when you soldered your tool to the jump pads.
    In terms of your shaky hands try using flux and also loosen your grip on the solder wire...my nickname used to be "Shakey Jakey" before I figured out I was shaking because I was just too intense.
    Coming from an electronics background I also know some folks will pop a Xanax before they start soldering to keep the hands steady...I don't touch the stuff but I could see how that would help

    Any idea on E83 with no CAS - if odometer needs to be matched with the EWS , or just odometer is independent by itself ? E83's seem abit tricky

      Unfortunately i dont know. On the EWS cars of the previous gen they stored the milage in the LCM. But im not sure if the E83 has an LCM.

    So at 3:45 you put text on screen saying that you'd switched it to "Flash" the EPROM. Or reading the Flashed eprom that you already flashed (I'm guessing?). Does this mean everything you did after that point was no good? Or that it was just not what you intended for a short moment? You seem to be fine with the results from that point on so I'm assuming it was fine. Please forgive my ignorance asking probably the dumbest question about things I know nothing about. But I'm trying thanks to YOU and this great channel. Rock ON!

      Ahhh i should have elaborated. There are 2 parts you can read from the cas with the BDM programmer. The eeprom and the flash. The flash is the software for the cas, so it knows how to function in the car. The flash is different for each model. The eeprom is all the security data and is different for every single CAS module.

    Hey man I use a bdm stand and probes no soldering needed... if you need help with with eep let me know or the flash corrected I have legit 50+ CAS backups for 335i E9X n54 powered cars incliding CAS3+ after downgrade so you can just write with R270 i can modify ISN and VIN also keep in mind you will need to write over the spare completely and not modify because of powerclass since you have a 335IS and the powerclass is 02

    Hi mate, Where did you find the pin outs? The wire colour diagrams that are listed on certain websites do not correspond with the colours on the ribbon I have (and it looks like yours is the same too). Also, I'm unsure what's coax on it?

    You should take a moment and realize you now know more about E9X electronics than 99% of everyone that works for BMW.
    BTW, that “unsteadiness” can be an electrical issue in your body. Find a good mechanic and listen to them, like the N54, maintenance is key to enjoying the ride.

    I would like to know if this methond will work on encrypted cas 3? I am trying to downgrade to program a new key. I updated the Cas 3 to encrypted firmware not realizing the consquence after the fact. .

      bimtool will do encrypted cas directly, so this method would work. however you can use this method to downgrade the flash assuming you have a backup

I don’t have bimtool but BMW explorer and hitag 2 and with these tools I can’t do much with encrypted cas unless it’s on the previous versions either the oldest version from 2006 or next updated version in 2011 both of which are unencrypted but not 2016 updated version. I verified that by pulling two used CAS without a key from junkyard as a mean to see if bmw explorer is actually working, I could accessed these unencrypted modules without any difficulties but my car has the latest firmware that I wish I didn’t update even though these extra security is nice to have. I have been trying to use winkfp to downgrade encrypted cas but that doesn’t work even by playing with the files because winkfp keeps on saying something in the file doesn’t have the right profile to perform the downgrade, just one very specific file that needed to be manipulated. My guess is that the latest version is not in conjunction with the older version as a way to prevent downgrading as that would otherwise afoul the purposes of the latest update version. I am now under the impression that downgrading might not be necessarily so long I could obtain CAS EEPROM information to make new key to be used in conjunction with Hitag 2. Perhaps, R270 is the final piece of puzzle to achieve that goal?

    Hi I am able to saved flash file from r270 but how do I downgrade from encrypted cas. Do I need a different cas with older version flash file then dump (write) it in mine?

      To my understanding you will need the flash file from a downgraded cas. However i have never tried.

      @@ZeroTo60Tube ok, I used r270 and hitag2 to made a new key. It works as can start the car with the new key however I can’t use unlock or lock buttons on the key and comfort access still doesn’t work with my old key or new key. I am still trying to figure out why these things just stop working one day especially when the radio is working perfectly fine. My other Bmw’s keys fob just stopped unlock or lock for some reason. This is why I am looking to see if new key remedy the issue and it has not. Do you have any suggestion as to why I am having this issue? Do you think perhaps the new key need to sync to the car for unlock or lock and comfort access feature to works?
