    Most of the lure makers on YT are primarily showing their artistry. While you accomplish that you are also teaching us how to think through lure design and lure making. Allowing us to reason through the process instead of simply mimicking the methods of others. Thanks for the effort required.....

    All of your tips for molding for silicone are very important. Especially the vaseline. I forgot to add that on my last mold, and thankfully the two halves separated.

      Man you got lucky! Last time I forgot I had to cut the mold open.

      Thank you...I always stress the length of the videos. I try to keep them less than ten minutes but on long subjects I have found that splitting it up in multiple videos is worse on me... What do you think?

    Can you make a video where you make a master, cut it in half length wise, core out the master halves to accommodate internal weights and rattles, mold each half separately and be able to assemble the halves after molding with internals in place, paint and fish. I feel you would be the right person for this!

    Thank you for your detailed video, very informative. the question that i have is, have you heard of this silicon calking mixed with corn starch to make your initial impression of your lure?? have you tried it? if so do you recommend it instead of the playdo, I just don't have the artistic capability to carve the lure in to that? let me know what you think and thank you

    • @EngineeredAngler
      @EngineeredAngler  3 роки тому +1

      Yes...silicon with corn starch works but is a bit messy and you have to experiment a bit to get the right consistency to be able to capture fine details.

    I've got to admit from a lure maker myself, I love watching your videos and explaining your process. I typically stick to carving but I'm getting more intrigued with making molds and casting the lures. Curious what product you use for the casting?

    • @EngineeredAngler
      @EngineeredAngler  3 роки тому +1

      Thank you for the kind words. For now, I'm using casting resin from Specialty Resins.

    • @TOrgs1245
      @TOrgs1245 3 роки тому +1

      @@EngineeredAngler I did some more digging and found your other video about mixing resins and silicone. Very helpful information for me just starting out with making molds of my carved baits/decoys. Thanks for the tip on the resin brand, I was leaning that way as well. I'll look through your uploads, but I haven't came across a video yet with casting a deep diving lure with the hook point on the bill with a through wire. That could be a challenge but your thought process on how to do so would be awesome.

    Hi my friend, in the other videos of this playlist you showed in detail how to build a jumpfrog, your unique designe, magnets, how to add weight, etc, all that frogs were in wood. What about this frog in epoxy, do you add weight in the same way, soldering wire, etc? Thanks for your help!

    • @EngineeredAngler
      @EngineeredAngler  4 роки тому

      Yes...the design remained the same with some slight increase in ballast weight.

  • @lannabulls
    @lannabulls 4 роки тому +1

    This is the lure that I'm interested the most cause is perfect for snakeheads, the fish that I'm after. At the beginning of video you showed a prototype, a blank in wood and you commented about its "bent" shape, the lure siluette body is a little bit "bent", is not straight as the frogs showed in the other videos of this playlist.
    How did you achieve the "bent" shape, trough a lathe or simply by sanding? Sorry about my stupid question, I never used a lathe in my life, I just ordered one, waiting for and I starve to know about.
    Thanks so much for you help, really appreciated!

    • @EngineeredAngler
      @EngineeredAngler  4 роки тому +1

      No bro the questions are not stupid...I did a bit of additional shaping with sandpaper

    • @EngineeredAngler

    Your videos are great and I really enjoy the level of detail you put into lure making.
    Have you ever had any issues with the silicone sticking to the blank? The last two or three molds I’ve made resulted in the silicone sticking to the clear coat on my blank, essentially ruining the blank and making the mold useless. Any ideas?

    • @EngineeredAngler
      @EngineeredAngler  5 років тому

      What kind of clear?...epoxy won't react with silicon..

    • @trevorthieme1579
      @trevorthieme1579 5 років тому

      Thanks for the quick response! I believe one was with etex and the other was with True Coat. The silicone I used for all the molds that failed was Illuseffects Tin Cure RTV Silicone. The next go around I think I’ll be trying the Smooth On.

    I don't know if I missed it. But what are you pouring into the mold as the finished product?

    • @EngineeredAngler
      @EngineeredAngler  4 роки тому +1

      It's a fast setting two part resin mixed with micro-balloons

  • @zzz7zzz9
    @zzz7zzz9 5 років тому +1

    Have you tried Smooth-On Featherlite yet, for casting? No adding micro-balloons to float. I love it, but then, it's all i've used.

    • @EngineeredAngler
      @EngineeredAngler  5 років тому +1

      Yes..it's good stuff. It is actually the same density as my 10% microballoon mix. I just prefer a faster set time.

    • @zzz7zzz9
      @zzz7zzz9 5 років тому +1

    When molding a wooden master how do you finish or what do you seal the wood with before pouring silicone.

    • @EngineeredAngler
      @EngineeredAngler  4 роки тому +1

      I like to clear finish it as if it were a painted lure. This way my mold has a glossy finish and if I decide to pour it as a soft bait I get a nice result.

    I just wanted to make the point that the modelling Clay MUST be sulphur free, as it will possibly cause curing problems with the silicone. Especially a platinum cure. The tin cure is a little more forgiving, however it is best to just avoid sulphur. If it does not say sulphur free, it is not. Also, if you let the silicone cure in your pour cup, it will peel out easy.

    What version of the smooth on products did you use for this mold? I've tried the OoMOo 30 and Mold Star 15 with good results. I noticed you didn't have to use a vacuum chamber either.
