    @AlirioAguero2 2 роки тому +54

    Actually, one of the biggest Eurovision scandals came this year. There were initially 41 countries set to participate. First Armenia withdrew because of the conflict with Azerbaijan. But the really scandalous part came in the form of Belarusian song called ''Ya nauchu tebya'' or ''I Will Teach You''.
    The lyrics are about people being mindless sheep, and needing a strong leader to tell them what to do, and how to survive. It even dared to condescendingly include the verse ''Rejoice, no matter if you're angry''. The band are known Lukashenko supporters, handpicked by him. Considering the dictatorship, imprisonments, and killings happening in Belarus at the same time, it hit hard.
    On a musical level, it is also incredibly bad and lazy, which means that its sole purpose was to provoke. The whole Eurovision fandom immediately panned the song. Especially fans and musicians from Belarus. In fact, Belorussians insisted to disqualify their broadcaster BTRC until further notice. EBU (the broadcaster who precedes Eurovision Song Contest) gave Belarus an ultimatum - Either change the song or be disqualified.
    They said that they are making a new song, but a few weeks later, the new song was also rejected by the EBU, and Belarus was disqualified. After Eurovision, EBU said that they'll revoke BTRC membership, and thus ability to participate in any future editions of the contest.

    The 1976 Greek entry, "Panayia mou Panayia mou" by Mariza Koch, was a protest song about the 1974 turkish invasion of Cyprus. As a result Turkey withdrew from the 76 final and the organizers in Hague had to deal with protests from turkish expatriates, as well as warnings of possible violence from nationalist group the grey wolves (including a sniper during the final). Mariza Koch performed wearing a bulletproof vest and had to sign a waiver prior to getting on stage.
    During the Greek performance the turkish network replaced the EBU signal with a broadcast of a patriotic anthem. Following the incident EBU disqualified Turkey from the 1977 contest and added a new rule to exclude songs with a political message.
