  • Amateur GoPro footage taken using a GoPro Hero 7 Black on a Karma Grip in March 2019 in the Shawnee National Forest region of Illinois. In this video is Giant City State Park's Indian Creek Trail, Giant City Trail, and Devil's Standtable Trail. We tried to visit Inspiration Point, but the Big Muddy River was still flooded from February's rains and submerged the gravel road to the trailhead. Pomona Natural Bridge is another segment of the video before going to the Little Grand Canyon Trail in the Shawnee National Forest.

I love how you have your wife/girlfriend/SO in the picture ahead of you----it really shows how "big" the rocks and bluffs are. My hubby is forever rolling his eyes at me when I want him in a picture, but that is exactly why I do. You really don't grasp the size of the landscape without people in it.
Another great video. So glad I (or should I say UA-cam) found you. Thanks!

@15:30 I'm taken back 30 years to a much warmer early Summer, with more moss bed growth. I lay on some of it near the bottom waterfall. The slight bubbling brook, sun through leaves in a light breeze and the trickle of waterfall made a perfect lifetime memory. A source of my poetry too. Thanks for your video. I also did Giant City, Pamona's Stone Bridge and Pine Hills. I got to the top of part of Pine Hills, as it looked over vast prairie and the river valley. I guess Trail of Tears isn't far. And I recall one time I drove very dangerous Turkey Run(?). Washed out road at the time, but not so I didn't go all the way. I lived Little Grassy and Devil's Kitchen too. Went to Garden of the Gods. I hiked to the Panthers Den a couple of times. SIUC from 87-91

I guess it would be hard to make a bad video when the subject is country as gorgeous as this but this video is very well done. Some of the framing of the views are breathtaking!

Really perfect way to show off this place in sidelight (late fall? early spring?). Reminds me of walks through the woods when I was a kid in upstate NY.

I love the variety of different trails that are in Shawnee National Forest. There always seems to be a different rock formation around the corner.

Really nice job. I groaned when I saw it was filmed with a GoPro, but you know what you're doing! (Most people don't.)

Great video and some amazing footage. I love going to Shawnee National Forest. It's beautiful there no matter when you go or where in Shawnee you go.

thanks! Some people don't like winter hiking but the colors really pop with the water and moss. Plus the views open up a lot more. Temperatures were great as well!

I don't care how flat the state is you can find a lot of forest preserves in Illinois and that's why I love it

Shawnee National Forest is definitely the best hiking in Illinois but as the Japanese do...forest bathing is everywhere in Illinois!

And thank you for watching! Giant City and Little Grand Canyon are on the west side of Shawnee. On the east side you have Garden of the Gods and Rim Rock as the most sought after destinations. Ferne Clyffe State Park is in the middle, which is another really interesting area. A lot of people stay in cabins on Lake of Egypt when taking vacations in that area.
