All aboard!
I was one of the lucky kids who got an original for my 10th birthday in 1960! Double A units and 4 long silver illuminated passenger cars! After being on display for many years above the bar in our basement, it’s packed up in its original boxes waiting for my youngest son to have a full time home.

How old is your son, I would recommend you should give it to him when he is 9
Awesome!
Great gift for your son. Mine, since I was 4yr old, still running under the Christmas tree, and in display in the train room, the rest of the year.
I have this version and the one from my parent generation with the old style track. In great condition too! Never been used until 2015. The old one has been used before but it’s been in storage for so long until 2015.
I had to get the engine for the newer version serviced. Apparently the engine wasn’t heavy enough to make contact with the middle rail to make a smooth run. It lose power so easily
"no one uses the front couplers" double-headed trains: "am I a joke to you?"
This review is well done. And you are probably right that "nobody" ever uses the front coupler on a passenger locomotive. Well, in the 1950s, our family was about as close to "nobodys" as anyone but, over three years, we acquired three Lionel locomotives (GP-7, 2-6-4 steam and an SW-1) six Lionel freight cars, two Lionel cabooses and three Lionel passenger cars. The steam locomotive didn't have an operating front coupler . The cabooses and the observation car didn't have operating rear couplers. But, if they had all had operating couplers on both ends, we would have used all of them. We didn't often run the GP-7 with the passenger cars but we ran just about every other combination you could imagine including "mixed consists" that included freight and passenger cars.
Them were the days!
I actually have this engine
And I actually used the front coupler
Excellent locomotive & video to tell this historic RR story. 😎
• Cheers from The Detroit & Mackinac Railway 🚂
Personally I’m glad it has a working coupler on the front.
Santa Fe passenger engines look really cool
3:40 That coupler can come in very handy if you plan to make an A-B-B-A consist.
@@originaljokegaming2948 I think they made a dummy and b unit for the Santa Fe FT a couple decades ago
They don't use a smaller front coupler because some people will want to run them in an AA configuration.
“... could never convince my dad” that’s why he went to the bad nursing home in town and not the nice one!
Jesus man!
Very nice starter set, Lionel did a great job with it! Thanks tmbooks!

I just ordered the Santa Fe Super Chief yesterday, cant wait to get it next week!! A 77 yr old, you know boys and there toys!!
Because people DO use the coupler at front of a F unit. Mainly 2 F units back to back
Or running an ABBA
not on the front one
Plus, this is a GAUGE engine
There's optional coaches, but no B unit. The coupler on the front could be for an A A combination. A dummy A unit would also complete this train like the original set had.
There does exist a b unit matching this train.
Hey tmbooks Scence Lionel came out with the Polar Express Set in 2004 same year as the Movie it's Self By:Tom Hanks and scence there is also the 50minute Movie from the late 1970's called The Easter Bunny is coming to Town and that movie does have a train in it i was wondering will Lionel ever come out with a Easter Bunny Train set? you know that would be nice i think.,0:00
Thanks for existing you were one of the main reasons I like trains to this day
Who
The Santa Fe?
@@Deesbignts no tm books
When I saw this train in ILTT 10, I fell in love with it.
Beautiful set...I just don’t get the 159 on the side... it looks like cheap after thought house numbers in a mailbox...
How do I order this set from India?
I need this train plz tell how i get this train..
Slick! I adore the silver train cars
That's right coupling is there for a reason you couple up to the train backwards if you have one already and got a new one
Is the Santa Fe lionchief FT power B-unit diesel for this?
Great video! We've got some Lionel reviews on our channel as well, including legacy engines and starter sets. Again, great video and was very entertaining to watch!
C0
isn't that the layout we watched you guys plan out and assemble in an old show years ago! It's great to see it still in use
Both me AND my dad want this for Christmas
Planning to get this for Christmas
Is a masterpiece and it is also beautiful
I hope they make a new York central set
Are the passenger cars wheels metal or plastic?
Beautiful, i hope Lionel brings this set in ho scale
I thought Lionel only did o gauge
@@goldenretriever6440 lionel started doing ho in recent years
Nice video👍
they should've made these remotes with a built in Rechargeable Lithium-Ion battery (Just to reduce waste).
The Announcements are a bit on the cringy side.
Since Lionel is getting back into the HO scale market, they should do their F units in both Starter sets and as separate engines.
Also, My first true electric train set was an MTH Railking N&W J R-T-R Powhatan Arrow set from 2001.
ALL ABOARD THE S A N T A
F E S U P E R C H I E F
I HAVE A A-B-A 1949 F-3 SET!
IT IS SURPRISING THAT THIS TIME WAS THE ORIGINAL FT CONFIGURATION!
THE NUMBERING IS WRONG HOWEVER! FT LOCOMOTIVES IN PASSENGER PAINT WERE NUMBERED IN THE 400's!
I can't wait till Christmas! LOL
In Pakistan from where a person can buy this beautiful train set?
I just bought this set, I'm thinking of removing the roofs of the passenger cars so I can put some people inside. Looks kind of weird otherwise.
I want one for Christmas
3:50 what if you MU two of them?
I definitely want one for Christmas 🎄
keep wishing and you get one
Mobile app controller is so cool 🔥
I wish that I could get it it's a beautiful set
I WISH I HAD THIS SET
What is the complete cost, including the two separate cars? thanks
Awsome model, I got one of these myself recently. Absolutely amazing.
As a sidenote, what's the name of that sound track playing in the background during the begining of the video? It's got such a 1950's feel to it and I love it!
The HO Santa Fe was my first train set
Mine too, still prefer HO scale!
That's a great set. Too bad i wish you should do one of the lionel five star general set released in 2017.
Sort of funny that the coupler is a sore spot because the reviewer would like a scale coupler for added realism but the passenger cars are only about 60 scale feet long. O scale isn’t usually one to capture realism, more of a classic toy train.
Hello...could you please assist me from where i can purchase the stuffs
Are the cars available for separate sale? I have the A-B-A from the 60’s
i dont believe there are, i found a guy parting out the kit on ebay and bought the observation and 1 regular cars with the intent of my dad using them with his original a-b units
How much
This train is beautiful, I love it.
tmbooks, would you possibly get the chance to upload the Big Boy and Challenger segment from I Love Toy Trains part 10?
Jackson Hamilton p0
Fi wish they also included a dummy engine in it I would pay $100 more if it included a dummy engine as well
I have this version and the one from my parent generation with the old style track. In great condition too! Never been used until 2015. The old one has been used before but it’s been in storage for so long until 2015.

I going to buy that.
Lionel. Made in China now? Used to be in Chesterfield, Michigan.
One thing, the couplers might be a little finicky
wow! i love trains
What is the Model number for this 2018 Santa Fe Super Chief?
Where can I buy this set...plz share link
I have that deseil engine but it is loud as HEAK I can hear it from across the house and I use the front cupller
Waiting for the Lionel Amtrak passenger model.
LOL.
I got this train set for Christmas last year
I need please tell me where to buy from
I use the front! I use it for excursion trains!
I think the older 1950s were better built.Passager cars look short.
Agree
I agree as well. The 2343 is the definitive Santa Fe F3
MUCH BETTER MADE IN THE USA
Awesome review
Santa Fe Is Awesome!
What’s the name of the song
It is a beauty
I wanted this for Christmas
Beautiful.
The Chief is incomplete without another A unit. The original was an AA set.
How much does it cost?
I believe $380 on the tmbooks shop
$429.99 on the Lionel store
With the extra cars that would be $615
My grandpa was a Santa Fe engineer
I Usually Use The Front Couplers To Double Head My Trains
a great train ,i have this unit..it looks great on my train layout
Can you sell me
Does the train itself need batteries?
No, only the hand controller.
its a electrical train every Lionel model train is electric
Honestly... this video seems a little bad Quality for when it was made, but still great train very detailed
There should be a dummy B unit or A unit
I got that set wonderful set.
Can these work with the old transformers?
I want to purchase one piece this train..how could i get in nepal..please suggest me....
Pls may I have a link to the music?
I want
Santa Dr are the best
Unbox the Lionel thomas ready to run set
Always wanted one, just can't stand the way O gauge trains front end swings with the trucks, even the steamers. I did get over the third rail since track makers have begun blacking them out, but the engines... Just can't.
How much money is the train
I own the original Santa Fe
Wow at the beginning I thought it was sing sing sing by Benny Goodman
Nice sounds
Unlike Santa Fe El Capitan by Lionel.
How I want this
Sorry but lionel has had its day. Not enough details and a VERY HIGH PRICE. grandPa might of wanted it, but HIS dad was right it cost an arm and a leg, as all lionel TOY trains did, and do. HO, is the way to go!!
Jack Sagrafsky
All O gauge is high priced. HO and N are getting there too. Train market is shrinking so prices are up. Kids love their cellphones etc.
HO is definitely the most affordable though , out of all the scales. Lionel is getting back into the HO market. They came out with a revolutionary HO track system , check it out. I think it’s going to be a huge success.
Can anyone tell me if these are American made or are they made in China?
Yeah if only they used an F3 or F7 instead of an FT!
beautiful
I want this train
Please tell me price
From where to buy
Uh what happened to the layout? Where's the fourth track and the buildings?
The fourth track is still there. The buildings were taken down for our Christmas Carnival.
