  • Those anglers who are familiar with the lake trout know this fish is rarely found in shallow water. Most of the year a lake trout lives up to it’s nickname the “Denizen of the Deep”, preferring to spend time in water 100 feet deep or more! In the fall of the year, lake trout are forced to abandon the security of deep water to seek out preferred spawning reefs, break-walls and places where rock is piled up as shore erosion protection. After the business of spawning is complete, lakers go on the feed bag setting the stage for some amazing shallow water jigging and casting action. Unfortunately, the lake trout fishing season in many places such as Northern Lakes Michigan and Huron closes the end of September. Thankfully, southern Lake Michigan is open to lake trout fishing year around. Mark and Jake Romanack of Fishing 411 TV never miss an opportunity to target lake trout in shallow water and neither should you!
