Oh, wow, I didn’t know that. It makes it that much more legendary! Celine Dion had epiglottis during one of her US tours, but she still kept performing in spite of her doctors advising her to rest.
Mark Bennett Freddie was incredibly bold and brave for going out there and performing that day (despite his doctor telling him he should not) for the cause, and of course, as the band said, all of the bands were doing it for the famine in Ethiopia in addition to giving off one heck of a performance. All of them wanted to show off their talents and promote their bands- The older ones not so much but of course The bands who were still making albums and touring. Freddie Mercury was extremely generous anyway, and he would’ve done it alone had he been put in this position. Each of the bandmembers did their individual work but I don’t think any of them had the chemistry that all four members of Queen had together. They were unique and they were special! ❤️
@@TheCityinthesky Diagnosis or not, he was still ill that day and had been very strongly advised by his doctor *_not_* to perform. He was definitely 'physically under par,' as Mark said.
Mari of the Shire he issss. If you look up who the best vocalist is, hes at the top (or maybe very very close) and he is the greatest preformerrrrrr, hes amazingggg
Mari of the Shire yes! All of the bandmates were different and Brian was mostly a rock person, Roger was rock and jazz, Freddie was a little bit of everything, & John was wonderful with either soft loving music like “ you’re my best friend” or funky music. I thought it was funny when another one bites the dust came out and it was put on R&B . Why not? Queen was great and that song was absolutely incredible. We would dance and rollerskate to it all night long.

What's amazing to me is that you can tell clear as day that the vocal coach is singing along in his head and trying not to verbally sing along. That's how incredible Queen's music was and how polarizing Freddie was. A concert in 1985 and here we are over 30 years later and Freddie is STILL commanding the crowd.

When I was in High School in the late 70s early 80s QUEEN kicked ass everyone had a boombox playing QUEEN., Still one of my favorite Rockers.! ,,I was in shock when I heard the day Freddie passed away ,
I remember back in '94, I was in Mexico City and when I took the subway, there was this ad in one of the wagons about a school teaching Stage Presence. It had that famous picture of Freddie on stage in front of thousands of people in Wembley. I was so excited since I was a fan. Freddie was something else. I've made ex girlfriends and friends watch that concert with me in the past, most of them didn't care much about Queen's music, but after watching the band and Freddie's performance in that concert, they loved it. Freddie for me was the best singer/performer of all time ,and certainly in my lifetime ,and I feel very lucky and blessed to see him and Queen live three times ,best concerts I have ever been to.
I've seen Queen at Live Aid like 30 times. I'm really happy you uploaded this video Ken! Freddy Mercury has really inspired me to write music with all the passion he displayed on stage. I've never been the best singer but guess what Ken... I got your singing method so that I can decently sing my own songs. I never thought a singing method could be so engaging! Feels like you're there with me. Big fan of yours Ken! Everything you sing sounds amazing!
I have had this concert on DVD for many years and have loved this performance since the first time I seen it. I am also a HUGE fan of the Dire Straits bit during this concert too. Epic no doubt about it!
I was fortunate to see them twice. Once In the late seventies and again at Wembley in 86 I believe. Freddie's voice had changed so much. When I listened to him the first time he had a very pure soft voice with tremendous power. In 1986 his voice was different had a different Timbre and characteristic to it. It seemed like he was really having to strain to reach the notes where before they were effortless for him. Still one of the most amazing performers I have ever seen there will never be another one like him. Just say the man was an enigmatic performer is not giving him justice. I guess the best way to describe him was he had a voice and he would strut on the stage as if he owned it. Even today his voice is unequaled by anyone. Not just an amazing singer but an amazing performer and songwriter. Thanks for taking us back to one of the most memorable performances in the history of Rock. Rock on Ken. BTW your course is amazing Ken I have already added nearly five notes to my range. Thank you so much!
His voice was probably bad at that time because he was starting to show signs of AIDS and he was struggling to get over simple infections, he got a lot of throat infections that lasted for long periods of time, and he wouldn't rest which took even longer.
what I loved about this performance was Freddie's command of that crowd and how playful he was, he seemed so happy, in his element . hes very much missed!
Freddie was a complete musician and the best, and its goes beyond opinion, it's a fact. Of course we have/had another singers who completely knows how to do it and got their own way to the top ( on rock'n'roll department ). Once you create your personality/musicality and way to do things, you start to influence/inspire other people, nobody takes away that. C ya ! Keep Rocking !
Freddie was top-notch. There’s no doubt he knew when he was off key during this performance at times, but it didn’t even come close to shaking him. A great testament to the force of a frontman that he was. I don’t think anyone watches this and thinks his rough patches took away from this legendary moment.
He sang this when his doctor told him not to sing that’s why it sounded a bit different so he made it not sound the exact same. Overall he is FABULOUS I’m his biggest fan.
The doctor had advised Freddie to stop singing, but Freddie already knew he wouldn't recover from aids, which is why he kept singing until the end of his life😔
Good one to cover. I remember watching it when I was like 14. They blew me away but I’d followed them since I was 6 years old and my cousin lent me a night at the opera on vinyl. Left me breathless. Was fortunate enough to sit with Brian may for 20 minutes in Dublin as I did some photography for their live album with Paul Rodgers. I’m in the credits too for that album. Brian is a Lovely gentle guy in real life. I have tried to copy his vibrato for years. It’s hard to nail.
Ken Tamplin Vocal Academy I agree with you on this performance. It’s far from their best. It was just better than anything else on that day and Freddie’s stage presence just resonated with such a huge audience.
Thank you Ken. I love how you are you are able to not only critique famous performers to educate us, but you also give them their very deserving props. As with Queen. OMG, nobody could come close to Freddy Mercury as a performer.
One band in the world that I would give anything to go back in time and see ... Marc Martel is coming to town in September and thanks to your vocal reaction on his music Ken, we were one of the first to secure tickets to his show :)
Please Ken don't apologize for stopping the music. After all we did tune in to a Ken Tamplin video. We can watch the Queen video without your comments anytime. 👍
Freddie was one of the best frontmen and singers in history. One person from Queen who isn't spoken of much, though, is John Deacon. The man was a genius on the bass. His ability to lock the rhythm while playing really amazing melodies that fit the songs so well really helped shape my style.
Metalbass79 I totally agree and just adore John Deacon. He didn’t want to sing on the record but he would sing along during the concerts. I heard him sing on a UA-cam video with Freddie and he has a really good sound. it wasn’t like the others but it was good. John Deacon is listed among one of the top bass players in the top 10.
Nobody gives Rodger enough credit for his singing. I love the live aid performance because you can really see how he picks up and helps Freddy out when his voice is straining.
Queen was my very first concert... The Forum in LA...1982. I was 14 and WAY too young to be out with the group of Marines I was with...drinking and partying. But...it was one of the best nights of my life and no concert has ever compared. My teenage daughters (who have fallen in love with Queen and my COOL status has gone up a notch 😜) and I found pics and video from the concert I went to and we actually found me in the crowd...couldn’t miss me with my feathered beach blonde hair, my solid gold metallic blouse and white slacks that laced at the ankles. I remember everything! I wore super hot gold metallic heels...and lost one of the backs to my gold hoop earrings and worried all night about losing it. I was SMASHING that night!!! And...got home pretty tipsy but unscathed. I actually married one of those marines a few years later! Anyway...I feel so honored to have gotten to see them! And, at their best. My husband now, the love of my life, took me to see Tom Petty and we were so glad because he died a year later. So...very honored to have gotten to see him too! And yes...I dressed for the concert...black and white patterns from head to toe including the sexiest pair of black and white striped high heels you’ve ever seen! Was so afraid that it was for nothing by the end of the concert and he hadn’t sang “Don’t come around here no more”....but...they came back and did it for the encore 😊 I love your videos and how you notice things many others don’t. Thanks for letting me relive some wonderful nights!!!!
Saw Queen in 1980. I was in the front row, shouted out to Brian May before he began his guitar solo, he looked over at me and smiled. I was in a smaller venue so I was very close to them. Took a nice photo of Freddie when he was near me. Love Queen!!! ❤️❤️❤️
I loved your reaction, I remember watching the whole of Live Aid on tv and I know Queen just blew everyone else away they really ruled the day. I don't know if you know but Freddie was suffering with a few medical problems one being his voice and it was a huge worry if he would even be able to make the show, turns out it was the start of HIV symptoms.
Now wasn't he something special .a group I did not fully appreciate at first . as the saying goes...better late than never..ken T gave me another way to love music..Thanks...
Freddie stole the show that day! I recall seeing some footage from Philly when he was doing Radio Ga Ga & the crowd there was clapping along with everyone at Wembley. Has to go down as one of the sets ever played live & Queen aren’t even my favourite band. His passing was a great loss to music 🙁 R.I.P Dio 🤘🏻
Side note: I heard a story about this show, apparently Geldof announced them without asking them, so they hammered rehearsal of their short set & stole the show. Apparently as they left the stage one of the Boomtown Rats turned to Geldof & said “Thanks Bob, now we have to f**king follow that”. I hope it’s true 😂
Bill Hassell technically a lot of people followed Queen on the bill & all would have been daunted by following them and not reaching that height. I was careful not to say “directly follow” 😉, this is because I also know Geldof bumped Ultravox down the set list when he found out Princess Diana was about to leave so he could perform in front of her 😉 Bowie took the bold step of playing a video rather than I first song if I recall, to remind everyone of why this was happening. I doubt you could do another Live Aid now as the calibre of some of our auto tuned & lip syncing artists of today is woeful.
Ken Tamplin Vocal Academy If you have time, check out Sam Brown - Say With Me Baby! I’d love to hear your thoughts on a very underrated female vocalist.
Why did he hold his note when he goes "I got to goooooooooo" then? Also what about that note when he's doing that acapalla chant to the crowd after Radio Gaga?
They altered the movie a bit so as to address the AIDS issue somewhat, but not dwell on it. Since the timeframe if the movie ended in 1985, it feels like he was sick in 1985. But he was not. He was not diagnosed with the disease until, I think 1989. He did not tell the band until a while later and he made the news public less than 24 hours before he died. For the Live AID concert, he had a throat infection. The doctor did not want him to sing. But he did not want to miss partipating in this fundraising concert. The infection is why he goes sharp on a couple of notes and why he indeed does not hold a few notes as long as he normally would have. But who cares....it was Freddie Mercury and Queen! It was an outstanding performance! I love watching it every time. It never gets old. ❤ ❤

Don't forget - Freddie was singing against medical advice due to a throat condition. Pretty good for a 'bad day'.
Queen stole the show and the rest is history, the best 25 live minytes ever,i want also a heart from Ken Tamplin.
His voice is not better than Robert Plant or Steve Perry.
@@jensz9360 😳
Umm....
His voice was probably bad at that time because he was starting to show signs of AIDS and he was struggling to get over simple infections, he got a lot of throat infections that lasted for long periods of time, and he wouldn't rest which took even longer.
@@jensz9360 everything's subjective in art.
@@jensz9360 his voice mid 70's was 100% better than the pair you've mentioned.
I love your videos , I can tell watching your face seeing Freddie , affects you , I love the respect you have for him ! Thank you for that !
Diana Robison ❤️
what I loved about this performance was Freddie's command of that crowd and how playful he was, he seemed so happy, in his element . hes very much missed!
Thank you
Ken Tamplin!!!
He will Always have a piece of my heart.
And yooou Are,,,,
Awesome!!!!!!!
💜🙂🤗😘💜
Great video, next react to Queen 1981 in Montreal. Will not regret it.
Thanks for the suggestion, Ethan!
Especially somebody to love . WAY BETTER than studio version
@@xNayrbCSGO Ah, I've just mentioned Montreal 1981. So couldn't agree with you more. :D
Ethan H best concert of theirs in my opinion
Yes please look at somebody to love, Montreal 1981
Mark is incredible! Here’s an idea, how about doing something with backup singers? Like Michael Anthony, for instance.
I like these kinds of videos because I like hearing how great Freddie is
What a treat, the best vocalist of all time in my opinion being reviwed by the best voice in voice of the 21st century. in my humble oppinion.
Rock on, Pol!
@@kentamplin Wow ken you havemillions of followere i'm amazed at how you always give resonces to comments. God walks with you my friend.
Absolutely, Guilherme Azzi!
Great work Ken! I see on your face the passion and admiration when you react to these great artists. keep on going.
Thank you! Will do!
Freddie was top-notch. There’s no doubt he knew when he was off key during this performance at times, but it didn’t even come close to shaking him. A great testament to the force of a frontman that he was. I don’t think anyone watches this and thinks his rough patches took away from this legendary moment.
Love itttt... love your videos, your comments, they are resourceful... Thank you, Mr. Tamplin
Iconic, legendary, perfect.
Thanks for the listen, rock on!
I LOVE how passionate you are, and we’re so obviously enjoying everything from the first note! 👍
He sang this when his doctor told him not to sing that’s why it sounded a bit different so he made it not sound the exact same. Overall he is FABULOUS I’m his biggest fan.
The doctor had advised Freddie to stop singing, but Freddie already knew he wouldn't recover from aids, which is why he kept singing until the end of his life😔
Don't belive everthing in the movie
Freddie knew that he had aids in 1987 after live aid 1985
So in live aid he didn't know that he had aids
Good one to cover. I remember watching it when I was like 14. They blew me away but I’d followed them since I was 6 years old and my cousin lent me a night at the opera on vinyl. Left me breathless. Was fortunate enough to sit with Brian may for 20 minutes in Dublin as I did some photography for their live album with Paul Rodgers. I’m in the credits too for that album. Brian is a Lovely gentle guy in real life. I have tried to copy his vibrato for years. It’s hard to nail.
That's awesome, theonlyredspecial!
Ken Tamplin Vocal Academy I agree with you on this performance. It’s far from their best. It was just better than anything else on that day and Freddie’s stage presence just resonated with such a huge audience.
That time when UK was ruled by a different Queen.
There the only queen who matters to the brits lol
Thank you Ken. I love how you are you are able to not only critique famous performers to educate us, but you also give them their very deserving props. As with Queen. OMG, nobody could come close to Freddy Mercury as a performer.
Freddy was one of a kind, Chris!
One band in the world that I would give anything to go back in time and see ... Marc Martel is coming to town in September and thanks to your vocal reaction on his music Ken, we were one of the first to secure tickets to his show :)
Awesome, Freddie was a born entertainer blessed with a voice that still sounds so fresh today. Thanks Ken💯👍
Hey Ken, Marc Martel posted Under Pressure with his band Ultimate Queen Celebration. Love to hear your reaction.
Thank you!
Thank you for your honesty. Not their best performance, but still memorable.
Rock on! Thanks for the visit!
Some people were just born to be on stage its where they feel the most comfortable and Freddie sure was one of them :-)
wanted to say thanks for doing this man. Queen is my all time fav, and your're my all time fav singing coach! haha
Dalston m Thank you, my pleasure.
Please Ken don't apologize for stopping the music. After all we did tune in to a Ken Tamplin video. We can watch the Queen video without your comments anytime. 👍
I appreciate you saying that, John!
John Perricone agreed !
I’ve watched a lot of your videos and you’re always kind and supportive , really like your reactions to the guys I consider the greats!!
Okay, I'm gonna say it.
*THANK YOU FOR REACTING TO THIS*
Oh, man, you had me in tears at the end! RIP Freddie! One of a kind!
😀
Greatest vocalist/performer ever lived.
Mustafa Abdelrahman He's a great one.
Crazy little thing called Love was written as a tribute to Elvis Freddie was a fan of his.
Was so afraid that it was for nothing by the end of the concert and he hadn’t sang “Don’t come around here no more”....but...they came back and did it for the encore 😊
I love your videos and how you notice things many others don’t.
Cool!
😀
Wow 🥰 loved it 😍 liked subscribed 😁❤️ Freddie Mercury ❤️
Yes, from what I've seen Montry 1981 is outstanding.
Nancy Angus 👍👍👍
Freddie stole the show that day! I recall seeing some footage from Philly when he was doing Radio Ga Ga & the crowd there was clapping along with everyone at Wembley. Has to go down as one of the sets ever played live & Queen aren’t even my favourite band. His passing was a great loss to music 🙁
R.I.P Dio 🤘🏻
Side note: I heard a story about this show, apparently Geldof announced them without asking them, so they hammered rehearsal of their short set & stole the show. Apparently as they left the stage one of the Boomtown Rats turned to Geldof & said “Thanks Bob, now we have to f**king follow that”. I hope it’s true 😂
RltchieI- So true!
@@RltchieI actually David Bowie followed Queen and he held his own but yeah Queen stole the show
Bill Hassell technically a lot of people followed Queen on the bill & all would have been daunted by following them and not reaching that height.
Saw that back in day (I’m getting on a bit). Still send shivers and makes my hair raise.
PentFold 👍👍👍
Fun fact he had a cold so he held his notes for less time so he didn’t skweak
Squeak
He was ill with aids at the time, it wasn’t a cold. He had just been told he had it
Itskurly Kail no that was in the movie for dramatic purposes he found out in 1986
Why did he hold his note when he goes "I got to goooooooooo" then?
you’re so humble and honest. you bring such a positive energy
Thank you, rhea!
Freddie is awesome love him
Stephanie Lovelace,- So do I!
