5 - 2 - 4 - 3 - 5 is especially important on Ele's spear in fire since fire 3 buffs the damage of your next spear skill, which will be your big damage 5
Great vid, but pro tip for anything in Janthir open world: Consider taking a sigil of nullification if your build doesn’t already have boon strip. There’s a lot of mobs/bosses out there with protection and being able to strip that makes a big difference.
I love this patch. I mained warrior for years and have not been able to get a good patch to make me want to play it again. This spear has revived the class for me and it feels so good. Not too strong but just right in the middle for wvw. And pve side of it is also great. Been hooked and I’m still doing all things on first map only. Anet nailed it with this one.
I’m running staff/spear zerker right now. I just got spear last night and am still getting the hang of it, but staff as an open world weapon feels so good. You have a far better chance of surviving and this, winning tougher encounters. It takes warrior from feeling “okay” on its best weapons and builds and makes you feel a bit god-like when you look at a champion and are pretty sure you can take it down reliably
Thanks for keeping accessibility in mind. I’m one of the people who needs easy play builds at times and sometimes it seems like the build makers forget that needs to be a thing that allows those who are less able to have fun
Have you guys tried untamed with the 2 handed hammer? Hits like a truck, and so long as you have switching the untamed class skill down from your pet to you, it's pretty easy imo
That renegade build is pure greatness .I go SB for full ranged but it's more condi that way ,I believe axe/mace is better burst and good condi for that balanced hybrid build for open world
Thank you for this well-made video and the very good builds. "Fun builds for the open world" and still effective, that's exactly my thing... unfortunately, it's treated rather poorly by many GW2 UA-camrs. Having fun alone or with others is still the most important thing in GW2, at least that's how I see it and luckily my daughter and my girlfriend see it too, the three of us often go out on the maps together as a fun and successful trio. I really enjoy playing the new landspear with my Renegade and am really excited, especially about the spear skill 3 "Abyssal Blitz/Blitz Mines". For a fun and stress-free open world build I like celestial stats plus traveller runes.
Been having a bit of fun with a Vindi spear/shortbow, full Viper with trapper runes and relic of rivers. Having alacrity and quickness 100% uptime is really cool, the open world traits I take are Retribution, Salvation and Vindicator, in fractals, strikes etc. I swap Ret for Corruption. Still pretty new to this game so no legendries yet but ascended has been very easy to obtain and most of my 80's have near complete set's and pretty close to making the Gen 1 spear from the Wizard's Vault which will be a really nice first legendary.
The elementalist skills looks so good, it's what I thought I would get when I first created my character, now I just need to buy jantir wilds and end of dragons to play this build lol
Willbender with the alacrity traits and f2 vigor and skill reduction. Sword sword/spear is really fun. Both in open world and wvw. Do your normal willbender things with swords to get to your targets > swap spear > 5,4,3,2 or f1. The alacrity let’s you pretty much stay just in spear, use swords for mobility. Rage/hydromancy on spear feels good. Bring sword of justice for a little range and vulnerability.
@@saunorine Open world so it doesnt matter much, you can take Jade bot buffs or use Celestial for more uptime (because of how the Willbender's virtues work, you can take advantage of both condi and power).
Lately, I have lots of fun with the celestial Vindicator+spear+Relic of rivers build. Has 25k health, tons of resistances, alacrity(from dodging)+quickness; I've never felt so indestructible before, as with this build.
Try Herald instead: Corruption 132, Retribution 321, Herald 311, Dragon/Demon stance, full Celestial w/ Trapper runes and Relic of Rivers, Spear w/ Energy/Cleansing sigils. I was a Vindicator stan for a long while, but this Herald build does everything Vindicator does but better (minus the flashy dodge). If you're into food, Meaty Asparagus Skewer and Magnanimous Tuning Crystal.
In my Opinion they have to rework a little bit on the Ele Spear. But overall im very very happy about the Ele Spear and i really love it. Much better than my staff i used before. But about the Rework, Spear dont have Blocks or Auras, also only one Condi Cleanse (2 or 3 effects only) and most Skills are Ground Skills with a very small Circle and i would be happy if they change some to make it like Dragons Tooth (Scepter Fire2)
Was testing a build similar to the one shown in the video for Thief. It is a fun build to play and probably first power build with some cleave since Daredevil with staff came out. Real shame that Specter traitline has no power boost traits so it is not viable dps option in endgame group content.
I tried a lot of different things with Guardian spear, as its hybrid support nature makes it not as great for open world farming. It's undoubtedly great for Hybrid Support Celestial Firebrand, replacing Staff, but it's something I use for world bosses and massive events when there's other players to boon and heal. When it comes to damage, I've ended up on Power Zeal Radiance Dragonhunter. Zeal traits along with Spear 3 help stack a lot of might and fury (some of the greatest weak points of DH), and the Spear's overall burstiness fits into DH playstyle quite well. Other weapon is flexible depending on you need, I'm running longbow cause annoying titan mobs, but scepter or greatsword works well too. Power Willbender is not that bad with spear either, but wasn't feeling as exciting and powerful to me.
elemantalist spear is what STAFF should have been. change my mind.gw2 however takes the WIZARD theme from a STAFF wich is a WIZARD WEAPON and puts it on a sharp stick...just fantastic XD. still looks cool and fun to play tho. im not criticizing just voicing an opinion
For mirage, any specific reason for traveler runes vs surging (more power focused, same boon duration and movement). Or given warclaw's ability to mount in combat and having various teleports, maybe just mixing in some diviner's gear and using scholar runes?
two things on elementalist. first, thoughts on when in air (on your build) actually switching to 5,4,2,3,5 for the cc on 4 to more easily hit the rest of the combo? and also how would you shift to use with tempest? i find i really like the usage of arcane as a second specialization with air, but also find when using tempest im splitting attention as you want shouts for the traits there. think 2 shouts and 2 arcane skills is enough to keep the flow going?
i liked tempest too, you can find an updated version of that on guildjen, com open world builds, but the main reason to use 2 before 4 is because you can use it once again before swapping out of that attunement
What’s frustrating about catalyst is that there is no good way to generate enough energy with the spear to use the jade spheres as often as you should. It just feels much worse than hammer, especially if you want perma quickness for any group content
Agreed, Tempest is much better for it. I’d argue even core is better than catalyst in terms of playstyle. Weaver is my favourite playstyle for spear but it’s not the best in terms of numbers sadly
why are you doing bountiful blades for mesmer if you are using Dagger/Sword and spear? doesn't it only buff the Great sword abilities? should that one actually be empowered illusions to increase their strike dmg?
He did answer below to another comment as that being a mistake you can take any other in that slot, all options won’t change much anyway. Keep in mind these are the first builds, later they will be optimized on the site.
@@Vallun thx for answer, I asked bc after trying all spec with spear for mesmer, mirage is just so much fun even dodging for dps is more fun than normal gameplay, I made build with dual spears and it was most fun gameplay even thoug dps was poor on golem 20k, but afet trying dual spears I have hard time with returning to other weapons
I am having a lot of fun with engineer spear and scrapper build. It's just an open world PvE, Cele gear build, that has ok mixed power/condi dmg and amazing substain, plus good group support. The scrapper healing and barrier compensates for the lack of defensives on the spear skills.
How do you get your health so high? Even if I do a marauder build with all the trinkets etc with marauder and my jadebot + plus food I can't get it that high :(
unfortunately not because these are just preliminary builds that arent really too optimized, so a formal guide isnt needed, even though all the info needed is there

the problem is its melee, and in janthir, mobs with purple condi spam hate melee.....I've just stuck with pistols on my condi mech. been meaning to try a scrapper spear build though, see how that works.
There's a pretty cool OW Deadeye build that relies on Shadow Arts for initiaves and the new life steal relic. You pretty much spam spear 3, the second attack life steals a bunch and the finisher makes you invisible. It's pretty damn good for OW, but it's not exactly great if you're looking for an actual meta build
i like to use spear mech (engi) but agree that holo is so much funnier then mech but mech is just a save and easy mode for OW Also like the power DH or WB with spear and longbow (or gs, depends on the situation)
I'm enjoying the warrior spear.. a bit janky but its not comparable to the jankiness that is bladesworn. I do feel like its overtuned... like man even in open world.. for warriors at least*. Spear 3 dazes for 2.5 secs? Good damage. Spear 4 damage stacks fast and its "lingering". Spear 2 is aight. Spear 5 is a meme. I mean.. I don't want a nerf... I only bought the expansion cuz I wanted a new game style since SoTO offered nothing game changing with relics and EoD spec for warrior was dogshit. But man.. spear is fun. Knowing anet, even with that new balance lead... I'm expecting the fun to end soon.
Finally someone is talking about new builds with spears. Thank you

the words "dodging is a loss of dps" in the context of an open world build are totally crazy.

I'm finding Spear and Sword/X on Reaper is a lot of fun in open world. I'm currently also using Spectral Walk. It's a fast, powerful build.
Great work Vallun
I should note that spear is a very init friendly weapon for thief, allowing you to drop trickery for another trait line
which one would you take? specter without trickery is very low initiative pool

Why Bountiful Blades in Domination on Mirage if you're not using a greatsword?
I think it works with the spear as well. IIRC
