Hi from france. Un grand merci à toi. Depuis que j'ai commencé à me former à C4D sur internet ce tuto est le plus utile parmi tout ceux que j'ai pu voir. Plus de 10 heures de formation sur un site payant et rien sur les techniques de modélisation avancées. Tu m'as sauvé la vie.
Thank you for this simple tutorial. I've been looking for something like this to get me started in the fundamentals as they are surprisingly difficult to find on line.
Just watched halfway and already got some amazingly great information. You do some stuff with those tools I did not know was possible. Adding those curves in the first model or waiting for 2 secs with the snapping tool in order to enable a certain snapping point. Never heard of those tricks before. Awesome!!! Thank you!!!
I would seriously need to know some strategies how to end loop cuts without getting a lot on n-gons. For example, right now I have a model with an "indent" to fit another piece and to straighten the edges I add some loop cuts. And that works, but then I have a model filled with lines and it adds complexity to keep modeling. I want to be able to get those square edges but only with cuts where I need them. So basically a tutorial on how to keep a tidy model and still have nice, clean edges would be fantastic. Not to many of them out there. :) I hope you understand what I mean, otherwise please tell me to elaborate. :) Keep up the good work!
Yeah, i get ur point, if u don't mind, send me the model so i can figure out a way to make it look cleaner and definitely drop a tutorial on it once i have enough time. thank u for the feedback man !! Salah.
I´m afraid I solved my latest headache last night, but I´ll think about some scenarios where I tend to get in trouble and get back to you with a model with problem areas. :) For me, this is the one thing that irritates the most when modeling: that I´m getting cluttered meshes when I start to add details. Thank you for your time!
i can't agree anymore, getting a nice flow of topology and a pinch-free geometry is not an easy task to do, it needs a lot of time to master it, even if you know every motherfucking tool inside your software you'll get problems with it, but it get easier and easier over time. maybe in the next tutorial Imma talk about topology and some practical stuff like that, but i dunno when exactly, cuz i don't have enough time to do it right now but definitely will do one in the near future. Cheers man!!
Dude this is crazy haha! I have been trying to model something VERY similar to the first example the last few days and while I managed to model it fine, my UV's were a nightmare to unwrap. I was using beveled points to create the rounded edges instead of the arc tool which was giving me a shit load of shitty n-gons but your way looks so much cleaner! Thanks man :)
Thanks for your share Salah, i've learn so much new things by watching this video. I mean, a lot of tips / shortcut / etc. to improve my workflow. It's a shame i didn't discover your channel earlier :D . If you read this comment, do you think you will keep post new things or you don't have the time anymore ? I will definitely love to see more advanced tips. Usually, you can find a lot of video to do complexe shape but most of the time it's not the right way (using only boolean for example, it's messed up the geometry so badly) or already seen. I'm working in architecture agency and i have to be really precise and quick in my work. So it's a gift for me to discover video like this one. I apologize for my english, this is not my native language and i'm not 100% sure you speak french ? (It would appear so).
I'm glad it helped buddy, i stopped posting tutorials cuz of some problems i've encountered last year, but i'm willing to make a list of new tutorials at the soonest possible (among them will be part 2 of hardsurface modeling) and yes i do understand French a bit so feel free to comment with it. Have a nice day :)
The CTRL Shift functionality to bend that you do at 3:30 doesn't seem to work anymore on later versions? I don't suppose you know what it was changed to after r17 do you? I cant seem to find the answer anywhere! Great tutorial, loads of very good tips! Thanks
Great is just a word, But you prove fears on polys, Now has made me turn on your tuts dairy thanks good work, can you make one blue print like architecture ...tut. ?? pls
Great Tuts Man! Thank you so much! I have a question that can not realy solve: ¿Is it possible to make high quality cars with C4D for Unreal Engine or Unity, doesent matter? The question is aimed to the reason that C4D has no Smoothing Groups (has Phong tags), that are not recognized in some baking programs, like Substance, to bake normal maps effciently. I don't like at all 3DS Max, and have the possibility to deliver some models but I'm with alot of doubts concerning the posibilities of C4D workflow in a real game pipeline. The main problem concerning high and low res meshes for the baking process. Thank you so much for your answer!
Thanks so much for snapping tips. but still c4d snap doesn't work so well for me :( The guideline snap thing is sooo confusing and the last snap method of scaling the axis with ctrl right mouse seems to good so far. Anyway C4d snaps needs upgrading like in maya. :D + C4d camera needs upgrade like in maya :D :D because target camera has soo much restrictions in c4d :(
What PC setup you have ? I have i7 haswell and GTX 660 , but if i do some fast action with knife or selection that tool fail. Selection not select all polygons or knife not cut all perfect, sometimes i need do same action 2x. For this glitches im working litle slower :D For example most glitches i got if i uncheck visible only and object still not cut on other side. btw, nice job
+GhostNade ur specs are pretty good for such work, i don't really get wht do u mean by glitches, can u provide a screenshot so i can know wht sort of problem is it?
The snap method at 14:46 where you say to click the right mouse button doesn't work for me, it opens the right button menu, can you explain the right mouse/keyboard combination to make it work.
Hello, thanks for making this tuto first, but I have an issue at 3:41, I'm not sure what you saying is ALT+SHIFT or not, because I can't create that circle like in this tutorial, it will be very nice if you can help me, thanks again!
I got it, its not Alt+Shift as you said in the video, Its Ctrl+Shift. I have to go to another video tutorial to find how to create this arc. Anyway, Thank you again, cause I learn a lot from your tutorial.
ah ah moi aussi j'ai vraiment bloqué sur ce point. Une heure de galère, passage sur PC pour savoir si cela venait de mon mac pour finalement trouver tout seul en essayant toutes les touches.
Really nice tips! One thing i found is that, at 21:00 , if you extrude that edge in before extruding it down, it create a uniform cylinder to make a better bevel later. Here's an image to be more clear imgur.com/6kHStK1

Your English is good and I had no trouble understanding your accent. Thanks for the tutorial!
Simple but incredibly useful ways to create complex shapes and still keep a nice topology. I will put this to use right away!
Enjoy man :D

Hi Salah, great tutorial but i have a question, How do you close the first geometry? you only explain how to model the top part of it.

very nice methods and tutorials
Great tutorial bro!!
which button did you talked about at 36:20? thanks for the tutorial!
Ctrl Shift to create an arc. First press Ctrl Shift then go near the edge for Polygon Pen.
cool tips, very useful

+Gianflavio FX Thanks buddy
Thanks for sharing
Thank you Mr. Salah, I just Have one question, When I hit alt+shift in pen tool, it doesnt work when you want to create an arc.
I got it, its not Alt+Shift as you said in the video, Its Ctrl+Shift. I have to go to another video tutorial to find how to create this arc. Anyway, Thank you again, cause I learn a lot from your tutorial.

everything works fine but stitch and sew doesn't work for me D: I can't select the points. so I had to use weld instead. nice tutorial btw!!
Well, make sure u're not selecting any point when using the stitch and sew tool, hope that will help
thank you ! now it's working
failed on creating arc. it creates ngons and I have no idea why I do exact what you did and get another result!
try to Ctrl+Shift
thx so much bro
