Stunning 116 year old Forgotten Nolan Plantation House Down South in Georgia

- This historic old house shows the transition between the antebellum period of the south to sharecropping in the late 1800’s too early 1900’s. This historic house was actually built in 1906 for the Nolan family who originally owned over 5000 acres of land and there name is prevalent in the area today as the house has roads around called Nolan store. The house has been vacant since sometime in the 1980-1990’s. Very beautiful old house with lots of history and was featured for a brief moment in the movie my Cousin Vinny. Lots of reasons that this place should be preserved and saved before it collapses. I really hope the house is saved. It’s so beautiful, the staircase, wainscoting along with parquet ceilings. So much incredible architectural details.
Thanks for watching!
Hope you enjoy!
Why hasn't someone anyone bought this place?? I know restoration costs a lot but these beautiful homes have stories to tell and should never go by the wayside. I think of the families, the celebrations, birthdays, Christmas, births and deaths that happened here. The entire home is such a treasure!!!! Thanks Kappy you always explore the best places 💜
At least save some of the doors and wood! They took all the really nice things
Because if you bought that house, spent $1000s of Dollars in Renovations and upgrades . Poured your soul into making it beautiful again, BLACK LIVES MATTER or a Bunch of self loathing White Guilt white people would raise all kinds of hell about slavery and White Supremacy and Blah blah blah. Then you'd have to Bulldoze it down or it'd get vandalized or burnt down. So there's no point in fixing it up.
I was thinking the exact same thing. Why doesn’t somebody rescue it. In the state that it’s in it shouldn’t be that much. It’s beautiful. All the details inside even are gorgeous. Can you imagine what it looks like when it was in its heyday? Cheers from California💜🤟🏻😎
It would cost less to knock it down and rebuild than to restore the house. Apparently you don't work in construction.
@@Unknown_Ooh Money is not everything. The historical value you destroy when you destroy an historical building and put a cheesy stick frame mcmansion in its place far and away outweighs any money you save by doing that.
My family is from Boswick ...my aunt lives in Madison...i used to pass this plantation going to my grandmothers house as a kid...my mom remembers Ms Noland from when she was a kid...
Love Madison!
I don't understand why someone doesn't save these beautiful old homes. It breaks my heart.
$.
Go buy it! ❤❤ Everyone comments that these houses could be saved... I would as well, just can't afford it.
I have one built during that time . The restoration is horrible not just because of the price but finding someone capable of the job .
It belongs to someone. They have repeatedly said they will not restore it. There are also older homes on their property they are letting to go to rot. It's on the historical registry, but they can't make anyone restore an old home.
A good while ago, my dad worked to restore an old mansion. I was really little and my mom wasn't in the picture so I remember playing in the yard of the house while he worked (I just wasn't allowed near the old slave quarters) I have so many memories of it, but the man my dad was working for made him abandon the project. I was never told why 🫤
The Nolan House was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in April 2015!
The Madison-Morgan Conservancy is working toward safeguarding Nolan Crossroads: a rural Morgan County relic that still reflects an important period of Southern history.
Well hi there Jimmy. We went to Bostwick school together. Been a long time. Maiden name Anderson
It's nice to read that the Historical Society is going to restore this beautiful home. Thank you for posting.
I sure hope they step up soon and fix the place back up or I will have to contact them to see if they would sell so I could fix it back up 😊👍❤️
So sad the owners let it get vandalized and run down😢
And the owners have not done anything with it. They have stated repeatedly that have no plans to restore it.
My niece and I drove by this place a couple of years ago and decided to explore... We were in awe of it's beauty. It was a dark and stormy day and we weren't brave enough to go upstairs, so I really appreciated seeing it through your video! I was saddened to see the fireplaces have been removed - as I recall, they were quite beautiful.
Nature has beat her up pretty good but she's not too far gone. I wish someone could save her. Thank you Kappy. You do such a great job.
What a lovely place. I like how it is curved instead of corners on the outside. It's pretty clean in there as well which is nice to see. Especially no tagging. Stay safe and thanks for taking us along with you Kappy!
Yeah, that curved porch via very eye-catching!
Such a HUGE home! And the views from the floor to ceiling windows is beautiful. Thanks for sharing Kappy! You’ve brought us another amazing find. Stay safe and can’t wait for the next one. We all appreciate you Kappy.😊
Agreed it’s beautiful!! One of my favorites! Wish I could’ve seen the fireplace mantles! Thank you always for the kind words and watching Melissa!! :)
I want it but can’t do it now!
I do and have pass by this home. From time to time. The area is so beautiful and peaceful.
The columns and outside architecture is just majestic. The floor to ceiling windows, wow. I still love that old brick. The staircase is a work of art by itself. This visit just seemed other worldly...Thanks again Kappy. I look forward to every week.
Much appreciated for the kind words and watching! Agreed! Lovely place! :)
Nice. Explanation.
@@urbanexploringwithkappy1773 It is THEIR name - the Nolans. You typed out an amazing synopsis, then used the wrong there in your introduction!
This place is still lovely. I jsut don;t understand why people will not fix these buildings/homes. thank you for taking us along. loved it.
I guess most Americans would rather live in a crappy McMansion
@@trashyraccoon2615most Americans can’t afford to fix up a place like that. Plus, you have a very noisy road right in the front yard, good luck selling it after you renovate it.
@@1BobsYourUncle You make a good point there about the cost. I’m sure that’s a big reason. Where I live that wouldn’t be considered a busy road though! Many people have it way way worse
It should be a crime to allow such detailed historic structures to be abandoned to the elements and vandals. Another cool explore, thank you.
Thank you very much for watching! :)
@@urbanexploringwithkappy1773 my pleasure as always. My laughing emojis were directed to a comment someone made to mine. It's hard to tell if people are being serious sometimes.

Agreed Jared. It hurts my soul to see this sort of thing in ruins.

You make me smile every time you say,"Beautiful"....I feel the same about the beautiful craftsmanship of the old days gone by......so sad to see it dying! Thank you so much for sharing your adventures! Stay safe and God be with you!
Having spent a lot of my childhood in a home built in 1895, I love these places.Hope they can be preserved
Wow, thats awesome. Did it ever feel like you were living in a museum Sandy? They really took great care when they built those older homes, paid attention to every detail
@@bruceradzwion6160 I remember my Daddy showing me the lath and plaster, and explaining how that was done back then.
@@sandyjohnson3183 it was still done up until the 1950s, or so. My home is all plaster walls, built in 1951. The walls are like concrete haha you had a good dad, showing you things like that
I worked at an open air museum while attending college. It was all put together by Henry Ford, called Greenfield Village. It was an awesome experience
@@sherryridlen9357 yes, so true. Strange how a job you only wanted while attending school would turn out to be a once in a lifetime event
Incredible home with breathtaking views. The features and craftsmanship are fantastic! I pray someone restores this beauty to her full glory before she is lost forever. This house is one of my favorites. Thank you for sharing!
I love all the views from inside, especially upstairs where you can see the columns so beautifully....It does hurt my heart though that no one has saved it and kept it from rotting away.....
Oh I loved this one.....this old girl has maintained her dignity.
This is a great video to play the drinking game to...take a drink every time the word "beautiful" is spoken...
Ha!
I wish I could live in another old restored plantation house . They are so awesome.
Absolutely gorgeous property!!! I loved the architecture, window casings, doors, door casings, wainscoting, what banister was left& beautiful ceilings!!! I hope that whoever removed the fireplaces & banister is reusing them…too beautiful to go to waste!!! Thank you for sharing this wonderful adventure With us Kappy! I loved it 💕
I frequently stop there to sit and have a snack while on my motorcycle rides. I’ve often wondered how much it would take to restore this place to its former glory. It is a beautiful place!
Bet the porch really added elegance when it was on. I can't believe a house this massive wasn't built on a basement & those bricks still support all that weight. Awesome find Kappy!
Please someone save this Beautiful house !! Love the trees around the house too. If only I was filty rich I would fix this treasure house and live there forever !! Thank you so much for these beautiful explores Kappy ! Stay safe 👍❤🇨🇦
The owners refuse to do anything with it. There are other older homes on their property, as well.
If I had the money I’d love to bring this beautiful house alive again. Such detail and charm. I wish they still built houses this way today. Thanks for sharing!
You find beauty in these old gems and I love seeing them through your eyes.
I wish someone would save this place, it is incredible
Absolutely beautiful. The lady that restores mansion’s and houses in Kansas on HGTV would do an amazing restoration of this house.
Loved that wide hallway. And those tall windows! Thanks for sharing! Stay safe ❤
Me too! That second floor landing is dreamy! Thank you for watching and the kind words always! :)
There cannot possibly be a more stunningly beautiful house than this, so graceful, and from every angle it looked so picture perfect, those views were unreal. It would be so nice if it could be saved. Even in it's barest state you can see how amazing it must have looked in it's heyday.
Wow Kappy! That place is amazing. I agree on preserving it. Those columns! The wide hallways, tall windows and detailed woodwork are all worth it. Thanks for giving us a second look at it. Stay safe and keep your great explores coming!! ✌️
I love the wood and the rooms. Imagine how quiet it would have been without a highway in front. Thank you Kappy for another captivating find. ❤️
Wonderful grandeur. The columns are stunning.
This place is beautiful. Can't someone buy this place. Honestly, this is a treasure
Buy it and continue to live where enslaved people were tortured?
What a lovely, specious home. Such an interesting idea about painting all the interior ceilings that aquamarine blue!
What a beautiful place! ❤
What a beautiful place. It had such lovely vibes about it. Thank you for sharing Kappy!
My Cousin Vinny is one of the few movies I never get tired of watching
I’ve passed that home several times and always think how beautiful it could be. I thought at one point someone was trying to restore it.
Wow!! Such a Big, Beautiful Home. What a shame it goes to waste. Thank you for taking us with you. Stay Safe!
Beautiful house! And I just love how much you appreciate the woodwork, the stairs, the view from the windows, just everything. And yes, I agree the house is heavenly. Great work, Kappy! Thanks so much and stay safe!😊
My son started redoing an old Victorian…….after a year + and a LOT of work, he was told it needed a new foundation……50,000, plus…..and NO, the original inspector did NOT tell his this……I think this is the problem with most of these old houses…..the foundation.
Very beautiful house. Large rooms nice woodwork. Homes nowadays don't come close to the quality of construction and detail. This house deserves restoration. Thanks, Kappy, for this video.
Another post from you! Goodie!! Of all the various urban exploration going on out there in UA-cam land, you are by far our favorite! No nonsense & to the point. And I say this all the time , lol, but I can’t laud it enough!
I LOVE IT that you let natural sounds, normal city sounds around, be the backdrop. No eerie spooky danger music or space age dwib .. THANK YOU!
Just let the nature and houses speak for themselves! Less work in editing as well😅 thank you for watching and the kind words! :)
The balcony standing really makes me wish I could renovate an old home like this. It would be more than worth it.
I agree with you on that; those older classic homes are awesome. 👍
It's a home i would love to see restored... WOW..a beauty...
I got a positive feeling of this home and would definitely love to live there! So happy to see it wasn’t tagged. Out of all of the homes you’ve shown us thus far, this one is in my top 5! Thank you Kappy 😊
I’d agree! Definitely one of my favorite places! It has such a great feeling! Would love to fix it up if I was a millionaire! Thanks for watching! :)
It's so nice to see others share this type of passion for such a thing..❤️
Stunning house and property! Criminal to see it fall by the wayside….
Man i love these old plantation houses are absolutely beautiful and I'm most likely going to buy one here soon and fix it up make it good as new again but these old plantation houses are one of my favorites to be honest and this house was built a year before my great grandmother was born in 1912
Thank you for sharing this beautiful work of art. The craftsmanship that went into the designing and building of this structure is amazing.
Awwww, the cute Turtle was so nice to see !!!! And the Crane !!! That looks like a beautiful place !!!
Those column's are so beautiful and I think that house could be brought back to life for someone with the money and determination to do so.
Best to salvage what's left.
What a Fine old home!! The whole thing takes my breath away! I’ve never seen one where you could actually walk out on the upper balcony!! Thanks so much for sharing!!✌️
I love going into older homes! Thank you for your tours!
Such a beauty to restore, and yes the views are incredible. Did I miss the kitchen area? Thanks Kappy another treasure for sure.
I rewound it looking for the kitchen
Very beautiful! I love these old homes! It's sad that it's left to rot! Thanks for the tour!
What an awesome place. Love the porch. Definitely a savable house.
Hi, Kappy! I was thinking the same thing: this one does have the air of an older house. The columns circling the corner are really interesting. Very romantic place in that setting! You captured some wonderful shots which make it seem very isolated--rather than the actual roadside setting! A shame to see it stripped...Another winner, Kappy!🙌❤️
Thank you for watching and the kind words! :)
Oh Kappy I love that house! The front floor to ceiling windows and the columns 🥰
This is so sad that this beautiful house is just wasting away😥.
I wished it could be saved and restored !!!
This house was absolutely amazing to see with you Kappy. Thank you somuch for taking us on this tour. It was very interesting and I really enjoyed looking at house and seeing all the woodwork.. This is really beautiful !!
Take care Kappy and stay safe out there !!!
Yup
Love these old homes. Such character and charm, not to mention history.
Ok Kappy, I could feel your excitement. I don’t blame you. What a beauty. That porch too, besides everything else you mentioned. That movie is hysterical. I haven’t seen it in ages. Now I’m going to watch it again. What a shame this wasn’t saved before. Thanks Kappy
Thank you for the glimpse of a forgotten era in home construction. Was surely a grand home back in the day, but it’s astonishing how clueless some people about prices based on the comments. Restoration of a house in this condition would easily exceed 1 million dollars given the structural damage and other issues shown in the video.
Thanks so much Kappy! Enjoyed this old home immensely ❤ Can just imagine how it used to look! I hope & pray someone rescues it before it's too late!!! Enjoyed the footage at the end also :-) You do such a very nice job taking us along with you! Bless you Kappy & safe travels❤
Wow..what an amazing home. I can see where the family lived happily in there and the children laughed and played. Too bad it can't be fixed up
The wrap around porch was probably a gathering spot on a hot summers night, maybe the younger generation at one end and the older folks on the other? I think this because the kids would likely be chattering away, while the adults discussed crops, gardens, recipes, and yes politics. What an easier/harder time in Americas history, back when the bread was homemade, didn't cost $3.50 a loaf, it was better for you and tasted better too! Thanks Kappy, it looks like you have some (more) great explores coming our way.
Tragic that this house had such a hard life! There are so many homes (even so much older than this house) that are still in great shape...and many even still inhabited!
Very sad, this house being comparatively young, to be in this poor shape with no one to care for it!
The other old houses and the rest of the video was beautiful too!!!
Thanks for sharing!!!
Gorgeous home! I love it.
Such a beautiful home and so sad to see it not being lived in and taken care of. Such incredible detail throughout and the details on the wood is extraordinary. Great find Kappy, have a great weekend and thanks for the tour.
I tried to buy it 35 years ago it was tried up in the family
I hope that someone will buy this old house 🏚 and restore it. It's a pretty house. Thanks for sharing Kappy.
Watson 😮
I grew up in a house that was built in 1901 and it's still being lived in today. So; why isn't this house still being lived in today? There's got to be a reason.
Not everyone has the money for the renovations.
It’s in the middle of nowhere. Bad investment. Didn’t you see the other homes at the end that were also abandoned? The city is dead
It hasn't been fixed up because a jackass attorney in Atlanta owns it. His son put a roof on it to protect it from further damage. The attorney only wants the land and doesnt care if the house sits there and keeps rotting away.
@@cacola_3373 the attorney who owns it does. He just doesn't give a crap about the house. He only wants the property.
What a beautiful place! Love the craftmanship!
Just beautiful, wish I had a place like this.

Such a beautiful home. I loved all the beauty in the ending footage as well. How awesome you get to explore all of that! 😁
By far my favorite house you've shown! I would love to own it!

Why not a B & B? It's obviously close to a lot of traffic! Would love to see it restored before more history is gone for good. Thanks, Kappy! Hi, Ruby! 🎃🦇
Kappy, You just tickle me pink with all the ahhhh ‘s you use when looking at this house. You sound just like me when I am drooling over derelict houses, barns or pack houses. I adore these unloved places. I am not surprised the mantels have been stripped out, their usually the first things taken from these places. Thank You for sharing these adventures. Much appreciation from the Blue Ridge Parkway of Virginia.
Awesome house! Beautiful! Screaming out for someone to restore it before it's too late! Thanks for another great tour, Kappy!
I've heard of this house before. Apparently the owner of the house is stubborn and unreasonable and refuses to sell it or let anyone try to restore it. They basically want it to rot.
Too bad that the movie didn't save it. The owners didn't appreciate what they had. It was a beauty, as you said, an awesome place. I think it's too late to save this old beauty now😥. Thank you for recording what is left for us to see and save for others.
What an amazing place! It looks like there was at least a little bit of salvaging done. Am hoping they are going to take some more out of it before demolition. Looks like we are going to have some more awesome places coming up too. Love what you do young man. You got a great eye for these places! Thanks for taking me along Kappy!
Hope somebody saves it! Be careful upstairs in these places! Thanks for showing we enjoy watching!
I just finished watching one of your videos of a 136 year old mansion, I am so jealous, I've always loved looking at old houses I am fascinated by them, I am 62 years old and I grew up living in these type of places, I am grateful to you for being so interested in this. In the 60's I remember they tore down so many of these old vintage houses, even the ones I grew up in, some of them were very haunted, I don't know why but I saw children dressed in old 1800's clothes in some of the old houses that's when I was really little and they would appear I can still remember, but that's not why I'm fascinated its because I think about how people used to live in those days
Absolutely stunning!!!
Wow! What an imposing and stately old character. Majestic! In addition, the loftiness of the surrounding grounds, and quaint drive leading to and through, only adds to its charm! Thanks so much!!

Yes the old homes should be restored if possible.. such beautiful designs and craftsmanship.. such luxury waiting to be shown once again.. if not, even better
That was a gorgeous property. I’m curious- have you any hopes of some day rescuing an old house for yourself ? Great work as always, Kappy !
