    Oh, man. Sad to see the store closures and sparseness along Main Street. Alas, it is what it is these days. A lot of places and people are struggling. I'll cherish great memories walking around there (Bon Bini Bazar and La Linda 😊) with my mom and aunties many years ago. Still hope to visit again one day.
    Thanks for all your dedication to upholding the heart and soul of Aruba 🇦🇼

    Thanks for this long video Hyro, I actually enjoy the longer videos (especially the walk ones) even more because we get to see a lot more in them.
    I am also very happy to hear that that building behind the Stadhuis is finally going to be fixed up, I've always thought it was such a shame that you had such beautiful nice building for a Stadhuis and right behind you it you had and abandoned, falling apart, ugly building. It's always a shock looking at the difference. Especially when you look at the "frame" of the building which is actually really good and such a good candidate for renovation or rebuilding. That little square on the front left next to the stairs for example would be a great place for outdoor dinning, with that small building on the side acting as the restaurant/kitchen.
    I'm actually disappointed to hear that the Royal Plaza is going to be converted into a Air B&B. I remember spending a lot of free time there, that's the first place I can remember having a gameroom where you could pay for the hour and got to play a bunch of consoles and use internet on computers, also remember buying shoes at the Royal Plaza and my first ever skateboard.
    From and outside perspective looking at what types of stores are around, I feel like one issue that happened with the island down town area over the last years is that they leaned way too heavily on the tourist side. I remember there being local or locally focused stores mixed in with all these shops, heck the main street was pretty much nothing but stores focused on locals (Like the mentioned La Linda for example.). Now that the Palm Beach has built up it's own shopping areas, which are also focused mostly on tourists, but has the advantage of being where all the tourists are, I think that caused these stores to struggle to the point of not being able to survive. The tram is actually a perfect example of this problem, when I heard of it being planned and heard the route it was going to take, I was really disappointed, it was so obviously purely tourist focused. Imagine if instead of just going through the main street, they had extended it past it and gone to Rotonde Cumana and then from there to the Airport. Then it could be used as real public transport by locals in Tarabana, Barcelona, Cumana and Wayaka. Then if it's a success the system could be expanded with lines maybe going past Dakota and Camacuri and another line going towards Hooiberg (Thus hitting another tourist spot.). As it stands now with the tram and all the stores struggling and closing in the main street, the tram is going to end up with nothing to show the tourists in a few years and the locals not using it because there is little point for them to use it.
    I'll be there in a week to look at it all again with my own eyes and I hope I come across you during my stay.

      Hola Fernanda, para serte sincero no es 💯 clara. Depende a donde vayas puede que tengan un parqeadero gratis pero importante es no estacionar entre las lineas amarillas sino blancas. Alli puedes pagar en las maquinas. No es mucho pero preferiblemente hacerlo para evitar inconvenientes.

    Main street needs to make a comeback, I can imagine it being very busy pre Covid. When I visited from London in 2022, I went downtown but where the cruise ships port but I did not see all these shops or main street 😂. How on earth did I not see this hmmmmmm

    • @LetsgowithHyro
      @LetsgowithHyro  2 місяці тому

      😊The intention of the tram was to bring folks from the cruise port to the end of the mainstreet. It didn't fully work out. I don't think the tram killed the mainstreet but more so the focus of businesses around the touristic areas of Palm Beach. I think it can come back witha good plan and backing by the locals and local government.

    The lack of shoppers and other foot traffic is sad for the businesses on Main Street, but I was thinking that was ideal for me (I don’t like crowds). We were thinking to mostly avoid Oranjestad when we stay in Noord in August… but we’ll probably check out the city now. I imagine it’s quite different during the peak season. The bus video idea sounds interesting… I’d watch. Thanks for the great videos!

    Thanks Hyro - enjoyed the video. I get why they play loud music in bars, but don’t get why they’re doing this in restaurants - I guess they’re trying to attract a younger crowd. We stopped going to some places due to the loud music & DJ’s. One of our favorites was LG Smiths steakhouse, but they put in a new music system & then added a DJ. We enjoyed Lucy’s for casual fare, but they also added a DJ - we sat as far away from the DJ & noticed everyone else was doing the same, but the waitress had trouble taking our order - we had to practically shout - I had a headache after we left. Barefoot was always on our list, but the place next door (Reflections) played loud annoying music that ruined the evening. Same thing with Aqua Grill - the disco next door (think it’s the Library) has their volume too high & interferes with Aqua Grill’s music. The Vue is another placed we stopped going to - same problem. Don’t they understand that people like to have some conversation while dining?
    We used to buy souvenirs at some of the shops on Main Street before the trolley was built, but haven’t gone there since. I feel the trolley (which we’ve never rode on) made things worse for the businesses on Main Street. I guess the main purpose must have been to transport the cruise folks, but the fact that many stores have closed indicates that the trolley didn’t help.

    • @LetsgowithHyro
      @LetsgowithHyro  5 днів тому

      Yes, you get me about the music. Some is fine, but it's often way too loud to have a conversation. Sad about the mainstreet. There is some effort being done but it seems too little too late.

      @@LetsgowithHyro Hello Hyro - we've been in Aruba since August 30 - this is our last week here. The worst case of loud music this trip was at OceanZ - loved the food & service was excellent, but the singer was so loud that we couldn't have a conversation & noticed that none of the other tables couldn't talk. Once the singer took a break, we noticed people conversing. Initially, the waitress wanted to sit us at a table close to the singer, but we asked for a table away from the singer. I would think that management would notice & ask the singer to turn down the volume. The most pleasant entertainment this trip was at Las Ramblas (at La Cabana) & at Horizons (at Amsterdam Manor,

    Hello dear Hyro, it’s so sad to see the Main Street like that…first time I went to Aruba was in 1989 and I fell in love with it…I came back many times (last in 2010), and how it changed…this street was so busy…I hope I can come back soon and every time I come back home, my heart stays at Aruba!!!!
