As much as I dearly wanted to select subject properly, I had an extremely hard time following this tutorial. I know you have a great one, but I'm sort of a beginner here and am not following all your steps. I give up. I have tried sooo hard. If you make a simpler tutorial, please post for us newbies to follow. I'm very discouraged. I will subscribe and hope to see an easier one eventually. I can't tell which icons you are clicking on at the bottom. Please... make every single step explicit. Thanks
this tutorial is very easy, on the bottom there are just 3 icons useful, the layer one to add one layer, for example you cant draw on the background layer, usually you want a new layer to work on. The circle one is to modify the brightness or make others effect for change the appearance of the overall immage, just use the quick selection tool and select subject and try to make rough work, the masks are just to make a good job and make it easier for you to differenciate the selection from what is going to be deleted.

Add a new blank layer. Place it on top of all layers. Now select all 4 layers and right click. choose Merge Layers.
