Hollywood is too full of sequels and remakes but I must say, if there was any director who deserves a shot at a new Nosferatu, it’s Robert Eggers. He is perfect for this.
I love that he has so much love for The Innocents -- full agreement... there is no other film so perfectly atmospheric, eerie, and realistic in its portrayal of the ghostly goings on...
This has really got me excited for Nosferatu. Some of my favourite movies, dripping in atmosphere. I visit where the Innocence is shot a few times a year and for it's annual screening in the gardens of Sussex. These choices of movies are perfection
Deep and interesting choice. Thank you. From the list I only watched "The Innocents" and it is a great film. I'll definitely watch the rest of the films. I'm really looking forward to Nosferatu.
My god Robert Eggers has a brilliant contribution to these classic gothic horror films to help make his remake of NOSFERATU. I love how he takes on this dream project with such passion & inspiration. Fantastic film director!
This'll sound like a stretch a bit, but I'm hoping that Robert Eggers joins this generations directors club that includes Christopher Nolan and Denis Villeneuve.
I can't wait to see "Nosferatu" it's going to be incredible. Good choice with "The Innocents" it's a classic. I was so close to having an Alamo Drafthouse in my city. They were going to open one in Birmingham AL but didn't. Why? 🥺
In my opinion Robert Eggers since The Witch is, by far, the best horror director in the world. The others don't even come close. The vibe, the fear, the mistery and the unsettling feelings that he manages to convey are unique. And Jarin Blaschke's cinematography is wonderful and effective in every scene.
Wow! Such unexpected and great choices. It's especially good to see his talking of The Queen of Spades - a really great and under-appreciated British gothic, a hugely atmospheric film with eye-popping performances by Anton Walbrook and Edith Evans (in her film debut). This makes me excited for what he has done with Nosferatu.
Please tell me he's the one who asked for the nosferatu voguing video to play before the premiere. It showed at this cinema and it was the icing on the cake.
Honestly its not officially called this but i describe his work as a sort of Neo Horror. Its different a d new and has a completly different atmosphere to others.
I looked up the exact quote for ya, "I saw Svengali in [Florida] last June - a very impressive picture, though somewhat altered from Du Maurier's book & the previous plays based thereon."
@ that’s really fascinating to hear someone like Lovecraft, who is usually shrouded in mystery, and didn’t get out much, and was introverted, make a comment on a movie that came out around his time. While I’m thinking about it, I wonder what he thought of the first universal Frankenstein movies lol, I thought I remember learning that he was a big admirer of the book, and was inspired for his story, “Re-Animator”
@theroamer2355 in truth, he wasn't really that reclusive he travelled quite a lot in his short life, was usually surrounded by people whether family, friends or crowds in New York, Providence or elsewhere, and spent a lot of time outdoors. Some of his stories were even written outdoors in parks and cafes.
@@amossss That's just inherently baked into the story though, it's a foregone conclusion and, frankly, arguably superficial as an influence when it comes to the actual filmmaking side of things.
for some reason he is sometimes compared with ari aster (I guess it's his contemporary), but Robert Eggers >>>>>>>>>>>>> Ari Aster. Doing Shock for the sake of Shock and nihilism just to not follow "traditional stories", is so cringe, and Robert always finds a way to do it right, because it's always supported by a good subtext or fits with the theme.
You spelled innocents incorrectly as an adjective instead of a plural noun in the chapters. Now hire me for your post production team please. I’m available. Also, Queen of Spades is mislabeled. .
What boils my blood is Egger's NOSFERATU 2024 Is basically a collage of better, nore innovative films that cane before it; people can't think of new things these days, only rehashing old things
@andytrevino4077 multiple scenes are from paintings; and you should know this! Don't waste your education, man; Eggers uses Hypnosis by Sascha Schneider (1904); Untitled drawing by Jean Delville (1888); Sailors by Albert Edelfelt (1854-1905); Lighthouse Hill by Edward Hopper (1927) and others.
When adapting something that's been done before, do you REALLY want to look to past versions for intense inspiration or do you want to look at entirely different, separate films for inspiration?
Oh come on, he’s working really hard on this fun movie for everyone, it’s packed with “breadcrumbs” I’m sure they’ll be somthing in it you’ll connect with ❤ you’d probably like it if you gave it a chance
Robert Eggers is awesome. One of the most exciting directors of our time.
Hollywood is too full of sequels and remakes but I must say, if there was any director who deserves a shot at a new Nosferatu, it’s Robert Eggers.
He is perfect for this.
Yeah I’m looking forward to this remake
This is going to be the first film I’m going to watch at the cinema in more than 5 years.
Brilliant choices! Always excited to see what Eggers brings to the screen!
I love that he has so much love for The Innocents -- full agreement... there is no other film so perfectly atmospheric, eerie, and realistic in its portrayal of the ghostly goings on...
dont forget the music! the psycho sexual themes curtesy of truman capote
Always love hearing Eggers insight on movies and deep cuts. It's highly inspirational.
I'm going to have to give every single one of these a watch.
The Innocents!!!

Not a stretch I think he is in there! Ari aster too
He’s better
I’d say he has proven to be our generations Kubrick, no one is above or besides Eggers
Chris Nolan is not in the conversation
@Booboomuffins 💯
beautiful selection!
The Innocents!!!
Cries and Whispers is a great nod, the influence of Bergman on him is enormous
So basically I need to watch all these films and Nosferatu is going to be amazing.

Those scenes with Mark Rylance really show a great performance

Of all the films that inspired Nosferatu, I would guess one of the major ones would be Nosferatu
He’s like oh shit I forgot about that one.
😂😂😂
In the words of Keanu Reeves: Woah!
Honestly its not officially called this but i describe his work as a sort of Neo Horror. Its different a d new and has a completly different atmosphere to others.
The Northman The lighthouse and Kinds of Kindness are the beat movies ive seen in last 5 years
I CANNOT WAIT FOR THIS MOVIE!!!!
Well, adding these to the watchlist.
The Innocents is a yearly Halloween watch in my house. So atmospheric and disturbing
How do you watch it? Rent it?
@ I have the Criterion blu ray so I watch it whenever I want. You can still rent it, though

Even HP Lovecraft enjoyed Svengali when he saw it.
Really?? That’s a Cool fact, what story can I look up for that?
@theroamer2355 in his letters to RH Barlow, published as O Fortunate Floridian.

The Innocents
The Queen of Spades
Svengali
Cries and Whispers
Angels & Insects
Do you guys think nosferatu was an influence, too?
He Is Coming...
"The Innocents" are available on You Tube, right now. 👈
love from persia
Robert: is there a PA that could turn the lights up a bit ?
Oh God yes
❤️🙏
Sounds like he has a Tarantino-esque depth of knowledge about cinema. At least horror cinema.
Robert Eggers did his homework that's for sure. :D
I can't believe he didn't say Bram Stokers Dracula, a lot of the imagery directly compares to the 1992 movie
@@amossss That's just inherently baked into the story though, it's a foregone conclusion and, frankly, arguably superficial as an influence when it comes to the actual filmmaking side of things.
This better be good. Because Dracula remakes have been done to death. I mean like last voyage of the demeter came out like a year ago.
It is up there, in the top league of horror, with Murnau's and Herzog's Nosferatu.
Mark Rylance should be in a Robert Eggers movie.
nosferatu cant get here fast enough.

Eggers is a much better filmmaker. Aster isn’t in the same league.
I completely agree
This is the guy who should be doing blade.
The innocents was actually creepy as hell
I liked this video I let it play and did not look at it. I’m saving myself for opening night.
People who complained that his movies aren't diverse. 🤦♂️🤦♂️

really hope it will not be a waste of time, please be a good movie
Robert is the only US director worth anything.
Needs to collaborate with more writers. Fine director, but his scripts have issues.
If only he also learnt of the existence of colours from Angels and Insects.

Watch his film The Lighthouse then.
@BullyMaguire4ever The Lighthouse rips off the Prometheus painting in The Philadelphia Museum of Art.
If anyone were to remake it though, it should be him.

What are you braying about?
Well of course it’s a factor, they are both based on the same book.
