The Resurrection of the Body

  • ...A second thing that’s really crucial to highlight about the Resurrection is the element where the text says, “They went in and did not find the body.” I cannot stress this enough, when we talk about the Resurrection of Jesus Christ, we have to make absolutely sure that we know what we’re speaking about.
There’s lots of confusion about what we mean by the Resurrection of Jesus. And all of that can be cleared up if we focused on that word, right there: they did not find “the body”. The Greek word there is soma. And when it’s talking about a dead body it means “a corpse”. So, when we talk about the Resurrection of Jesus, the discovery of the empty tomb, the fact that there’s no corpse in the tomb is a crucial element for understanding what the first Christians would have meant by Resurrection. ...

Critically important teaching. Several priests I have spoken to believe ‘the spirit of Jesus lives on in us’ version. Modernism has devastated the witness of many in Catholic ministry.

I would like to know how defend the idea that when we die our soul (if pure!) goes to Heaven and the Saints in Heaven can pray for us, to the protestant idea that when we die we dont go anywhere and our soul only “sleeps” until Jesus second arrive. Can you help me?

    • @al4381
      @al4381 5 років тому +4

I used to have this misconception. The easiest argument is to point to the book of revelation where the souls of the saints and martyrs are under the altar before Christ and praying in contemporary time, before the coming of the kingdom of heaven. That means that they are currently in paradise and will stay there until the second coming of Christ. Second argument is that of the parable of the rich man and Lazarus. Both of them descend into Hades and both are fully conscious, but there is a gap between them where Lazarus is in paradise and the rich man in torments. He mentions his brothers alive and well so we know this isn't in the days after the last judgement.
A third argument, which they try to refute by moving a comma, is Christ's words on the cross "Verily I say to you today you shall be with me in paradise". Now Christ never said anything without reason, and even if he did the evangelists wouldn't write excess words since writing gospels was costly and time consuming. Unless the word today points towards both of them being in paradise that very day, the word is pointless and redundant.

The priest at my church had the audacity to say that Jesus’s body remained there :/
He exactly said what you said some people believe, he said that he lives in our hearts as if to say In Spirit. I really don’t understand how ppl get ordained and they believe all this errors.
Another day he said Augustine made up mortal sin, come on.

The resurrection of the body refers to saints coming back from death at the return of the Lord Jesus. (1 Thes. 4:14-18). This principle follows the resurrection of HIS body. (John 20:17). This means that Jesus is the first born from the dead. (Colossians 1:18) and His church is His body on Earth while His resurrected body is seated at the right hand of His Father. (Rev. 3:21)

    • @kdmdlo

Let me ask you: if someone is killed (accidentally) in a fire, would God prohibit them from being raised? And don't bodies decompose into dust once buried? How is cremation any different?
I would suggest that God is sufficiently powerful to re-assemble your molecules into "you", regardless of what state your body is in.

Paul was executed in Rome in 64ad and Peter in 65ad..the Christians were so numerous (and Catholic because they included both Jews and Gentiles), that Nero blamed the great fire of 64ad on the Christians...and all scholars agree that Paul wrote 1 Thessalonians in 50ad - 17 years after the death and Resurrection of Christ. The Church had spread as far as India - where Thomas was martyred - and Spain where James was martyred. And there was great persecution in practically all places in between...

and the only reason the disciples left the Gospels for posterity.and each had, except John cruel end to endure. why would they? if Crucifixion was the end of the Lord's ministry. they would have reverted back to the their old Jewish faith. perhaps gathered every year to mark the anniversary and that was it, and the world would have never heard about Jesus Of Nazareth, the western civilization would be steeped in Greco Roman culture
Something profound happened that Easter day 2000 years ago. death had no meaning for the disciples and the many christian martyrs that would follow, .immortality was REAL

Aspee Lee the Romans were guarding the tomb because they didn’t expect Jesus to rise from the dead and therefore were guarding against false play cause they thought the disciples may steal Jesus body then claim he is risen, they were not there to stop anyone from getting in to see the body furthermore the culture dictated that they should go there and apply oil on the dead body.

The notion that Physical bodies are resurrected comes not from Christianity ( see 1 Cor 15:50) but Greek pagan mythology! ( See Asciepius killed by Zeus) Paul makes it clear that "Flesh & blood cannot inherit God's Kingdom" & the psalmist saated "The heavans belong to God, The earth HE HAS GIVEN to th sons of men" ( Psm 115:116). To remain human after death we would need oxygen, water food ( evena toilet then!). Heavan is a SPIRIT realm where humans cannot be sustained!
