My Dads favourite character in Jaws!
1:16 - Jesus, that roar still sends shivers up my spine to this day.
"Back home we got a taxidermy man, he's gonna have a heart attack when he sees what I've brought him!"
Such a great line

A great line, and one where I always briefly imagine Quint winning this fight, and bringing in that immense trophy.
Bruce was like yeah right, I'm taking y'all under water with me.
You know that it’s truly terrifying when Quint realizes they’ve bitten off more than they can chew the whole time the sharks pulling them and then Quints look when the shark surfaces then goes under the water with the barrels is a look that says I’m in disbelief
The realization of the shark playing with them saying I can get loose if I want. And the barrels popping right back up as if he's saying care to try again? Phenomenal film.
Yeah the shark was playing with them in this scene and gave Quinn that water splash to let him know that he was next.
The quick foreshadowing shot of the tank is pure Spielbergian genius
Is it really, though? No one else could've thought to show a tank before it explodes? You think it was really that clever? 😂
@@danieldevito6380 I do. Not to say other quality directors wouldn't consider the shot, but there is a long list of these moments in his films.

One of the things I really like is how at first Quint treated Brody and Hooper like fun little pastimes while he waited for Bruce to show up, but over time he really comes to rely on them and view them as useful. He never could have pulled some of his tricks off without them there. If this had been a success and all three of them had made it out, I wouldn’t be surprised if Quint would even contemplate bringing them back every once in a while as deckhands. He’d never outright ask, of course, but I don’t think he’d object if one of them asked (not that Brody ever would lol).
I think it was that Bruce humbled Quint. "Mr. Hooper, what can you do with these things of yours?" Quint was out of tricks and he realized his arrogance had cost them dearly. (smashing the radio, blowing out the engine, thinking his little boat could compete with a 25 foot great white shark)
He was stuck in his old ways from another era. Until he got to face the harsh truth : things evolve. Sharks too. He assumed it would be another of those hunts, singing on the way home with some nice trophy hooked on the line, and was too stubborn to admit it was no ordinary hunt. Until reality hit, and hit hard, down to his pride, forcing him to rely on a police chief who got his feet wet (no pun intended) and a sea life expert's new, modern technology.
In the end, he paid this stubbornness with his life and almost made 2 more victims.
@@E1N9A8N0DA Was it pride, or was it more so his hatred of sharks blinding his judgement?
@@Grandmaster_Dragonborn a mix of both, I would say. But apart from his past, Quint looked and sounded exactly like the typical, stubborn old man who refuses change, even when his ways don't work anymore.
I saw this movie in 1975 at cinema it was the must see movie of the year . I was 10 years old at the time it was scary, exciting and gripping all in one , excellent movie surpurb cast and still a epic even today 😊
1:24 That splash on Quint by Jaws said "You're Next"
The fact that it roared at 1:16 shows that this isn't just a great white shark. It resembles one, but it is actually a monstrous freak of nature that evolution forgot. Truly terrifying.
Yeah, sharks have no vocal chords so they can't make any sound.
@@samalvey8168 Exactly, so this isn't even a shark movie. It's a sea monster movie.
What is this jaws 4?
@@AstroSpark3 No it's the original jaws
its not a roar
At that scene, Quint realized what he was up against.
The way quint comes in with that machete is just fantastic
No Mr Smith day off don't know why
Very good can you look do can be in
Can bring you some Xbox oh my cup
About it can your period cause but it
They needed a bigger boat most likely a big tractor tugboat would've did the Job
The way Quint does everything is fantastic
I like the way he places it when he's done too
It is a machete from World war 1, pretty cool. It was used mostly by French colonial troops, during trench raids.
It is called a "Sabre D 'Abattis".
When Jaws debuted in theaters in the Summer of 1975 people stayed out of the water. They'd go to the beach, but would not go.swimming.
They'd go out on their boats, and even raft up. But no one wanted to go in the water... Jaws really did have that much of a psychological impact on people...
I was just in Hawaii & didn't go swimming
I was going into the 4th grade that summer of ‘75.
Yup Jaws was truly a cultural phenomenon. People who weren’t born yet will never fully understand the visceral impact that movie had on the world. I’ll never forget it.
Jaws have saved a lot of lives then.
@@junofranco6638 And killed an awful lot of sharks. I'm born in the late seventies and I'm still suspicious when I'm swimming at sea.
Bruce the Shark was like ouch that hurt when they shot that weapon on this neck.
1:15 the shark roars. Everyone laughs at the roaring shark in Jaws 4, and yet here it is roaring in the original.
what I thought, but I think thats something with air flow or something and not supposed to be a roar
I still think its actually cool here tho lol
Something I've always loved about Jaws is the subtle way they indicate us the true strength of the shark, by having him overpower and drag away a boat named "Orca" (which are the only animals capable of killing great whites)
So esentially, Bruce, a freak of nature, has gone past the limits of a real great white by overpowering an "Orca"
And going under water with 3 floatation barrels on him.
Man that shark has got to be insanely strong to pull a boat backwards like that and I know from watching Shark Week that real Great White Sharks are known to be very strong for a shark they're size and very intelligent too and cunning and fast.
FOR 1975 shark looks great, only problem with shark is that he swim only straight forward (in reality shark swim zig-zag)... Also this shark is litle fatter and slower than normal shark...
Very large great whites get fatter/bulkier and are slower due to the weight.
just brilliantly filmed...the ORCA being dragged by Bruce...the barrels seemingly sinking & then bobbing up...the camera work is breathtaking...this is a goto piece for learning the craft of making films...👌

My favorite scene is earlier, when Quint quietly hooks himself into his seat after the shark takes the bait.
The way quint says son of a bit h gets me everytime he was such a good actor 😂😂😂
Brilliant how Robert shaw deepens his voice for the character
1:42 This zoom out shot where you hear Quint screaming in the distance is just funny to me. 😂
[ Quint ] The shark can't go underwater with three barrels on him, not with three he can't.
[ The Shark ] Oh yeah! I just nearly pulled your boat underwater. And I can't pull three barrels underwater easily? Think again Quint.
Hollywood's Most epic movie EVER !!
They did need a bigger boat. Like a Destroyer or Light Cruiser.
Iowa would do.
I've listened to a lot of John Williams' pre-Jaws soundtracks and I'm not sure why he amped up the quality of his music quite as much as he did with this movie. This is the soundtrack where his work became more complex, enjoyable and all around more traditionally classical sounding. It must have something to do with the chemistry with Spielberg and the fact that he liked the material at hand. Or perhaps he had just started to be influenced by certain works of other composers.
This boat looks like an leaky, unseaworthy jalopy 😮 Where did they find this raggedy tub from?
After seeing this film...i could not take a bath for 3 years. !!!
Although sharks cant vocalise, that roar is really frightening.
1:37 "untie this, he'll pull out t he transom"!! That's why you always see AN AXE on a fish boat!!! AND a sailboat: if you need to cut a line to save the mast, grab THE AXE!!
When I saw this as a kid I didn't know what "taxidermy" was.
So I thought Quint was looking forward to boast the huge dead shark to the local taxi drivers.
Me too. Laughed when I heard that line again.
I thought he was talking about taking the dead shark to his tax guy lol
Ffs cuts off right at the point we all need to see. The moment that it becomes real for Quint. He's in over his head and he knows it finally. Bruce has got the legs of them all and he's fresh out of ideas now.

Idk how that bruce can pull the orca with 3 barrels at once with no exhaustion it still gets me.
Apart from the fact it’s a movie? Lol. I guess being so large he’d have to be strong. Being he’s a wild animal who can only survive tracking down other wild animals and killing them, he has to be tough.
Plus take in account he is no doubt pissed as hell
@@obiwanthewiseass B
He can't keep them down for long though. That's why they keep popping up. He can only submerge momentarily.
I love when quint throttles the orca.
I would have just left that shark alone and returned back to land.
And it would've followed, if not kept them from returning. I don't think they could just return to shore knowing it would be back and wreck more havoc. This was a one way flight. You can tell in the second one that Brody didn't come back completely.
@@Jokerstylez1995 - i would go back, and ask the Navy or coast guard to come back and kill it (using a bigger ship)

I have seen this film so many times and just watching this I noticed that Quint aimes from the shoulder but the next shot he shoots the shark from the hip like Tony Montana.
1:17 Is it just me or did Bruce just roar or something?
1:17 that is amazing how big that shark is. Though fake, still terrifying
I think that's something special on jaws movies, the shark does'nt realy feel like an animal, it is rather a monster, something unnatural and fierce on the ocean.

Bruce Roars with Authority at the crew
A couple of subtitle corrections: "Figure eight around the cleat" not "Bring your end around the cleat." That's why he then says "That's right, it'll lock itself off." Also at 1:40 it's "Gonna give us a ride!" not "We better get another line!"

Nah should be 5 barrels
In real life you sometimes get THREE great whites in an area
It's "Brody, figure eight around the cleat." Sheesh...

The sharks’ eyes are very lovely. I really don’t know why they attack humans
it's just a black circle lol
Because we deserve it...Haha😅
Bellissimo film
Why were Brody and Hooper holding on to the ropes as the shark was pulling the boat?
Because they were trying to pull him back.
Trying to take pressure off of the2 anchors that the rope was tied on to
Wooow amazing
If Quint had at least 1 grenade on his boat, he would've thrown it into the shark's mouth, and it would blow it's head off. If it had 6 barrels on him, he certainly wouldn't stay under.
But in the dialogue Quint is still wanting it as a trophy, to bring back and show it off. He doesn't want the jaws blown to pieces.
Management lesson: don't shot from the hip.
I almost thought that hooper was going to get hit to the bucket in his back.

Classic movie! but the later sequels constantly get abuse for the roaring shark. He sorta roars hear, and did a lot more in the VHS version. They took a lot of it out by the time it hit dvd
Jaws was the first Hollywood movie to be called a blockbuster, setting a record for ticket sales.
The second movie was one of the worst movies I ever saw, glad it was on a cassette at a friends.
That's when Hollywood wanted to make more blockbusters, generic movies, and we can see
where that took us, now watching old comic books coming to life on the screen.
@@johnwattdotca really? I actually liked jaws 2. Was probably as good a sequel as you were gonna get.
@@lordsidious83: Okay, between seeing Jaws at a theater and then seeing Jaws2 at the drive-in, or on cassette at someones' house, and knowing a 3 and maybe a 4 is out there, that I saw bits and pieces of as promo, I could be confused. The sequel I'm referencing had a theme park where huge tubing let visitors walk through holding tanks with big sharks. The sharks were horrible. It was a scream-fest, what was hot for American horror movies at the time. But then, I really like "Waterworld" where no sharks were involved.
That’s jaws 3, not 2. The second movie is more or less but not as bad as 3 and much less than 4.

How come in the book hooper died but in the movie he didn’t die
My theory? In the book, Chief Brody's wife has an affair with Cooper. She has a thing about not being an "islander", which is hinted at in the scene that leads to Alex Kintner's death. Brody somehow figures it out; smacks his wife around, and presumably Bruce is Cooper's karma. I think the film is much better without some of the book's side-stories.
What is it about 3:02 that’s so mesmerizing?
