The LS is cheaper, yet requires more aftermarket parts to make it live in a high horsepower environment. The Coyote will do it with mostly stock factory parts. Plus, the Coyote is now the worlds fastest street driven "Drag and Drive" champion, going quicker and faster then many blown / turbo'd big block Chevy Pro Mods!

The 4.6 and 5.4 mod motors set records in promod with Mihovetz and Lutton 20 years ago. Going 258 mph is not too shabby for them small motors. The mod motor is the only motor that comes in a daily driver and is promod class. I have a 5.4 big bore and stroked to 6.2 liter built by MPR and that same motor is in Boehmers one Bad GT that holds the standing mile world record. Coyote heads are good but the gt500 5.4 heads flow a lot more along with making more torque. If there was a better head for these 5.4s I’m sure 3500 hp plus is possible.

Easily more than the early Coyote heads despite Ford press releases.
The Ford GT/GT500 head casting also has the most flow potential.

Ron Robart had a port program for the GTs with +2mm valves that flowed 400/350 @ 28”.

Let's not forget that we're comparing 20+ year old design, which is still relevant and more than competitive, to an engine designed in this decade. Metallurgy and engineering has come a long way. The LS is what it's always been, simple and reliable with the least amount of moving parts. This, in my opinion is the desired performance formula.

Hell Lasala’s right hand man Jim with the white mustang just ran 7.1 @200mph with a pair of 68mm turbos which is nuts. Are there any big single turbo coyotes out there with something 94-98mm + or is there simply not enough displacement to get that size charger up on the chip? With modern day tuning, trans dumps/converter changes, electronic gates etc. it doesn’t seem like it would be impossible. @@jessealbright8593Top Fuel engines are heavily restricted, both for cost and safety reasons. If that wasn't a factor, you can bet they'd be running DOHC engines the second they could. The better head flow means they make way more power per pound of boost. It's also worth noting that while you have to rev something like the Coyote higher to make the same horsepower NA, the DOHC valvetrain means it can do so far more reliably even with comparatively minor mods. If you want to spin an LS that high and still make power, you're looking at a solid roller cam, aftermarket pushrods, rockers, springs, and everything else. For a Coyote, you only really need springs and retainers.

Please do a comparison between the Godzilla 7.3L Block and The LS/LT1 Blocks. That one would be interesting. 1.50" one intake valve but double it because two intake valves and two exhaust Valves per cylinder, That 2.500" intake will not flow as much as a equal of a 3" intake valve. Same goes with the Exhaust valves. But GM indeed did make a four valve head and two cams per head engine factory. LS ZR1 and The LS Marine engine by Mercury Marine and just recently another version of that one but no one has used twins on them to see what will happen.🤔

@barrykennedy9947 no doubt to you and the replies before you. Brett has definitely opened avenues for the Coyote. Although it is a sore subject with the LS guys, there are way more stock components at Brett's power level than any LS would ever see. At this point in time, it appears that is the nature of the beast. Like I previously stated, I am a push rod guy but I have to give credit to the Coyote. I currently run a SBF and was considering swapping to a godzilla. I am now wandering if that is the right decision? I may foresee a Coyote in the immediate future. I dunno, definitely been swirling around in the back of my head. I am also so deep in the SBF arena I have also questioned a Dart or Boss block and see how far I can go. The excuses are size, well that's a given its DOHC with huge heads that flow! Then there is the whole 500 junkyard debate shit as well. There will always be an excuse.
But back to what you were saying, it all depends on what is more affordable. The Coyote will get you further than the Godzilla. I'm pretty sure they are limited with head sealing, etc. Also, sound too. Coyote sounds good in RPM. The Godzilla with a cam sounds rowdy at Idle.

I know they're not ultra popular yet, but the LT solved most of the LS's weak points and has been out for a decade. Not sure why people have been so reticent to change, even in big money builds.
I think a lot of people throw too much bore and unstable camshafts in LS motors (and the camshaft comment is true of so many pushrod motors) and then complain when they don't hold together. But then you see the success guys like Pete have with smaller LS motors or the Swedes and realize sometimes less is more.
BTR and Gwatney are demonstrating 9-10k RPM setups with hydraulic lifters on LT motors. Can't tell me that's not a good basis for a huge horsepower boosted build.
Lastly, Brent LaSala and Jay (and I'm sure quite a few more I'm not naming) are such a meticulous and methodical bunch. They are such a joy to watch and there is no question as to why they go so fast. Jay beat up a bunch of huge big blocks with a 2JZ, too and didn't have to touch it all week.
