troy palumalu was obviously goated. but his position and field presence was significantly different.
the other safety who MIGHT have been in the convo was sean taylor RIP. he played ball a lot like ed reed. i would give ed the edge in special teams and threat with the ball in his hands, while sean was liable to crack someone's collarbone. but yeah.

I'd put Troy Palomalu up there with Ed Reed. Ed Reed was slightly more of a chess player in understanding the QB's plans and thwarting them, but Troy was such an athletic freak that even if we wasn't sure what was happening on a play, he could just ad-lib his way to blowing up the play as it went along. There were two glaring mistakes made when the NFL realigned into 4 divisions per conference in 2002. The Dallas Cowboys should have been moved to the NFC South and the Miami Dolphins should have been moved to the AFC South. Ultimately, the Baltimore Ravens should have been in the AFC East during the Belichick-Brady era.
I have come to accept that Brady and Belichick were the GOAT - narrowly beating out Paul Brown-Otto Graham and Vince Lombardi-Bart Starr ... BUT ... the ONLY team that had the stones to go up against Belichick and Brady was the Ravens. I believe 100% that had Baltimore been in the AFC East - instead of the Dolphins - that B & B don't get 6 Super Bowls.
Why? Because the Ravens would have won their fair share of divisional titles - thus making New England win 3 games to get to a SB. Mathematically, I just don't think they get there as often as they did IF the Ravens had been in their division.
I'm saying this as a football fan - not a Ravens fan, or Patriots hater.

Now that's a string of all time great QB's, these guys might be the best handful of QB's to ever play in the NFL at the same time. And I'm 62, been watching since 1965 with my dad,RIP, who was extremely knowledgeable about football, btw, me and him spent many years as patriot fans, season after season of some bad football, as a Boston guy, growing up in the 60's the bruins and Celtics, red Sox were the kings of Boston sports, Patriots were not, ironic huh.
