I really like your set up for your ferrets buddy , the ferrets love it to , perfect place for ferrets , they certainly know how to get around it ,you have given me some ideas for my own ferrets , it keeps them active fit and housed and entertained , no mental health problems for those guys lol. 👍
Thanks,.yeah the more enrichment they can have the better in my opinion.
FANTASTIC set up ... they seem too love it .... hell ! , they live better then me ...
Thanks, yeah they have plenty to keep them occupied. I'm a firm believer of you only get out what you put in. 👍
Great set up you've got. I use an old duvet which keeps them warm all winter.
Thanks, not a bad idea that, as long as it keeps dry
I tried shredding paper and I found that it worked incredibly well. The only challenge is getting your hands on paper
My dad is stupid enough to buy a newspaper everyday so I get them off him 😂 😂
@The_Vinmeister
Ask in shops for newspapers they don't sell or get a lot of the freebie ones piled up in Shopping Centres.
Awsome set up fair play and all we’ll look after we’ll done mate
Thanks I do try 👍
Love ur ferret penthouse it's fab 😀
Thanks 👍
After u have mated ur jills and they are out of season do u have any problems putting them back in with the other the reason why I ask is I tried putting my jill back with her original lot and they were fighting
@@rachelrichards4303 only for a short while, it tends to be more of sorting out the pecking order.
Ok thank u 👍👍👍
@@rachelrichards4303 no probs
wow what a set up you definitely no your onions do you work them pal
Used to don't anymore. Ive not been out with them in nearly 3 years. Sold all my nets and finders last year.
@@ruralpestcontrol just subscribed to your channel looks like I've got a lot shorts vedios to get through cheers Paul
@@paulhampson8496 enjoy 👍
I have very similar set up 1 of my gills has her eye closed I've been bathing it in cooled boiled water I suspect it may have been peice of straw and I was wondering what I could replace bedding with so thanks for the video
No probs, hope that's all it is and she makes a speedy recovery 👍
Excellent video
Thanks 👍
That’s what I like to see proper ferret man looking after his grafters
@@zolajetbolt I'm a firm believer in you only get out what you put in
Well said keep up the good work
Smart
Would wood shavings work as a good bedding?
Yeah it's all I use over the summer. I just remove the shredded newspaper and leave the shavings in.
Hi we are moving our Jill 8 and hob 8 month outside from indoor having a room to themselves….any advice re moving from indoors to outdoors…gradually? We will keep bringing them into play and some days and nights keep them indoors do a mix really…any thoughts? Thanks
I think they should be fine as long as they have the usual water bedding activities etc I don't see why there should be any issues
I was told something about ferrets but I don't know if it's true or not that's why I'm gonna ask you.
Do ferrets have a Musky smell about them?
Yea they smell. Not sure I would call it musky, but they have their own scent. More so when they are in season.
I've had really bad luck with my ferrets. Starting with 2 female. One died suddenly. The other has adrenal gland disease getting injection every month which eventually gave her anemia and almost killed her last year. Now she's on another medicine to counter that.
The next pair I got was a male and female. The male got liver cancer lost weight within 2 weeks of seeing the vet passed away. The female got bladder stones and cost me 2000$ to get out. The vet doesn't think their diet was cause for any of this.
So of 4 ferrets I still have 2 one is heavily medicated, hairless and around 9 years old. The other is recovering from surgery.
Where abouts did you get them from. Sounds to me like it could be breeding issues
@@ruralpestcontrol yeah I think in general in North America we have Marshall ferret who might be inbred also de-sexed/de-sented at 6weeks of age.
I might get some again in the future but not for a while. Or breed mink/ferret hybrid.
T probably i s genetic did you buy from a breeder not a pet store.you might just had some bad luck bad gentics.but im sorry breaks my heart there beatiful animals.just watch where you buy them from.make sure they have no mucas or crust in there eyes and sneezing alot is a bad sign if he sneezes constantly thats not good.there diet it cant be i feed mine egg yoke once a week 2 to 3 pinky mice a week with just average ferrite food i also give him canned cat food a couple times a week.and ive never had one sick ferrits ive had 4 since a child now 30 and all lived there normal life cycle longest i had one was almost 11 years.but i think it must of been your breeder good luck though dont give up
Hi! Love watching your videos. Just wondering if you can tell me when the kits and be put with the hob? And will the female kits be safe from him??
When they are old enough to leave their mum after 8 weeks. They won't come into season until the following year so the females will be fine.
Where are you based? Great set up
Thanks I'm In North Yorkshire UK
Been out much yet this season? Plenty of rabbits so far in Cornwall
@@damonwalters2956 only a few times with the ferrets, shot more with the rifle so far. Weathers not been too brilliant.
Rubbish weather here as well, praying for a dry spell to get out and about over Xmas.

Where do you get your bedding from?
The shavings I get from a local agricultural country store. You can buy them in a bale for around £10.
The shredded newspaper, is just my dad's old newspapers that I shred myself with a paper shredder.
@@ruralpestcontrol do you think shredded paper for bedding is better than straw or hay?
@@kayedal-haddad I found with straw there was a lot of damp and moisture in the nest box. Never had it once with shredded paper so stuck with it
will you be having another litter anytime soon?
Maybe next year when the ferrets are in season again
How did the self levelling compound help with the husbandry
The concrete underneath was tampered, so cause of the ridges on the surface it was hard to get the dirt and shavings out of it. With this self leveling flooring it's a perfectly smooth floor.
@@ruralpestcontrol I have the same issue, was it easy to do? my ferret court is 9 metres long x 3 metres wide so will cost a fair bit.
@@markknapper2113 yes really easy, think it was 9.99 a bag from screw fix. You just mix a bag with 4 litres of water and pour it onto the floor. It drys within about 4 hours.
How cold does it get there? Wondering if I could do something like this in my state
I'm in the UK so the coldest it gets where I am in winter might be minus 5
I should be able to do it then doesnt usually get colder than that in ohio
@@samiog5695 it's surprising how warm shredded newspaper is
Hi, I've got some questions.can you bring jill out of heat by neutered male or by any other means except Jill jab? Do you think ancients continuously bred the Jills or had some way to bring it out of heat?
To bring a Jill out of season you basically have 3 choices.
1. Breed from her and have kits
2. Use the Jill jab from a vet
3. Use a vasectomised hob
A casterated hob won't be interested in having sex with a Jill in season. It's the act of sex that takes her out of season.
@@ruralpestcontrol Thank you for the reply.people of the past bred jill just to keep it alive?
@@Samy-yu2lg it won't necessarily die just cause it didn't breed.
@@ruralpestcontrol I heard 90 percent of em will die with out mating.guess they are misinformed.by the way what do you think of crossing them with wild polecat.is that a good practice or has nothing good to offer.
@@Samy-yu2lg why would you want to breed with a wild polecat ?
Where would you get one from ?
How do you think your going to be able to handle it etc
Is the ink off paper not bad for them ?
Not that I'm aware of
@@ruralpestcontrol cheers for reply was just curious
Can ferrets live outside all year long in Ireland ?
Yeah of coarse they can
@@ruralpestcontrol Are they easy to care for outdoors in Ireland ?
@@finndrennan541 I don't live in Ireland but guessing it would be the same as anywhere else in the Uk
@@ruralpestcontrol The climate is nearly the same. I would have a wooden frame with wire mesh all around it and basically like a plywood box inside with a hole. Is that good for them ?
@@finndrennan541 yeah that's all they need. For a basic hutch/enclosure. The more enrichment the better
No matter what use and his cage is open free to go and come in when comes.but ever still after a year he destroys his cage ill clean it spotless then 10 mins later its chaos.and id advice against paper unless yours isnt retarded and eats it.he tries eating the paper along w everything else.and also i have his litter box in the cage its a good size cage but he still wont use it.he poops and pees right next to it.any suggestions hes a growing male a juvenile wich hes becoming very bad and.very very stubborn.and scruffing him dont work it only makes him crazier.but why in the hell does he keep eating all hisbedding ive resorted to microfiber small blankets but since he wont poop in his litter its not an easy clean.i owned them.since a teen im now 30 and ive never had one that was this bad and so out of control.his weasel war dances will last up till 10 mins wich is insane.he plays so hard he falls asleep right on the floor
