I lost 4th gear with the gearbox at 51%. It basically just ups the % chance something will go wrong the more worn it gets. Seems like a pretty simple algorithm.
yeah once you get to 50% you can lose a gear for a certain ammount of time, i dont think what happened in the video was a gearbox issue alone, probably the TC like said in the vid
Acually that was also just like that in F1 2016 but your Components (only the gearbox really) were reset in terms of wear each race week end. In the Configs of F1 2016 and 2017 you have stuff like "JammedGearThreshold" and "JammedGearChance", but much much more in F1 2017. And the Threshold values differ from team to team
The Gearbox doesn't fix in the pitlane, u will momentarily have shifting problems but then after some time it fixes back. Sometimes when u hear that a car has mechanical problems, it's bc they might be missing a gear, but it comes back later on.
Gearbox 74% DAMAGED (not 74% healthy, 74% DAMAGED). "I thought that was totally fine". Dude... xD I mean think about it, your gearbox is literally 74% broken, how is that "fine"?
I can confirm this is a gearbox issue. In my Baku race after the start this same thing happened to me at around 65% wear on the gearbox while everything else was -20% worn. It fixed after about 2 laps.
P5YcHoM4N Same. I was already expecting it going into Monaco, purposefully using all 70%+ worn parts because I know I suck in Monaco. Broke down in the middle of the road (obviously, Monaco) and took out Bottas (who's lapping me) in the process. Lol
I think it was like an electronic issue between the pedal shifters and the gearbox so when you came into the pits your crew could do some stuff with the onboard computer of your car to fix the problem. Thats the only way i can explain this.
I've played the last three f1 games and I was reading through the kind of manual of the game is that just slowing down and stop cools it down because if you down shift to fast then it heats up and basically kills it
Admitting the game is realistic, when your gears are wearing they tend to desynchronise. To avoid missed gear when the box is wearing, you'll have to do rev-matching. Instead of just pushing the buttons like a madman while braking you'll have to blip the throttle to make the engine rpm match the incoming gear. Try a good simulation like iRacing and try to downshift on GT cars without rev-matching. Most of the time the gear won't engage because an electronic security prevents the blocking of the traction axle that would occur with unmatched rpm between drivetrain input and engine output. Now that said, maybe the game glitches and tend to wait until those revs are matched to treat the order of shifting. And as you guys said, maybe the automatic shifting at the pit entry tends to reset the behaviour of the game. As far as technical point, you can't reset an ICE on the fly in 2 seconds in pitbox. No way ! It very looks like glitches mixed with strange behaviour of gearbox wear.
Theres a bug on 25% engines and gearboxes wear at an increased rate on 25% Engines last 2 at max 3 on 25% However on 50% engines stay green for 3 races and last about 5
Its a glitch due to the automatic pitstop takeover and the way gearbox failures work. A) When the gearbox fails, its not usually permanant. You will lose gear, and then often it comes back later. Presumably each time you try to shift into that gear the game checks to see if it fails or succeeds. If it succeeds, the part is restored (although I imagine with a much higher chance to recur). B) When you pit, the game takes over and automatically shifts through the gears. Those shifts will always be successful because its automatic, but the game has still seen those shifts succeed and therefore flaged the gear as working again.
What about a very very very fast simulation of a software-reset? When the TC broke the software of you car run into an error and by pitting you "simulate" a reset?
Could it be that: Your TC affected the CE in a way that the Gearbox didn't respond properly and that the pit-crew did a quick (electronic)reset during the stop?
I have had gearbox troubles too, and immediately hit pause, instant replay, get back to the moment before I had my issue (even 1sec before it happens), then do the flashback (at the time without the issue), comeback into the race and POUF !! NO MORE PROBLEMS !! Helped me "win" a few times...
I think it´s only a gearbox prolem. I had the same issue with the delayed up and downshifting. I got a completely new engine except for the gearbox on that race. It is really annoying.
From my experience, the gearbox has trouble for a amount of time, I'm guessing that it was just coincidence you going through the pit lane and it working again, rather than the pit sorting the problem
I'm thinking maybe they could loosen up the clutch timings and engagement speed to ease the load on the gearbox, obviously at the expense of shifting performance. Maybe even change to a slightly modified engine torque curve. It's all speculation but those things could mitigate some effects of a worn down gearbox.
That explains what was happening to me in Barcelona. I was trying to squeeze the last bit of life from my gearbox, and turn 11 was giving me massive problems. The rear end kept going out. And same thing, I lost a gear earlier in the race, and once I came in to swap tires, I got my gear back.
It's not because you went through the pit lane. It's a gearbox slip and tire slip issue. When you went into the pit, the new tires having more grip and more down aero, the gearbox doesn't slip as much.
The CE failed on the electronics which is why you struggled on up and downshifts, the gearbox was fine at that point otherwise you would've lost or been stuck in gears
The tire punctures are amazing in this game as well, I got a front right puncture at Malaysia and it was the most realistic puncture I have ever had in any F1 game and I've raced them all
I had a gearbox fail on me in Russia after 2 laps, it was well worn. I kept driving and got around the issue for a while. The radio said the team were working on it and after 2 more laps it worked fine again.
i know i am pretty late for this comment but the more worn a part (in this case the gearbox) is the higher the chance of it maulfunctioning randomly and once the parts are breaking they dont just stay broken they basically break then work again and break and work again so i think the gearbox broke then started working again just as you left the pits in other words it was just a coincidence if you need more help maybe i can help you with the f1 games.
1. It wasnt the tc that was your problem it was the gearbox xD The gearbox can start having problems after it hits 50%.. 2. You got that what I call "up- and downshift-lag".. You shift up or down but it all happens like 5 seconds after so you have to shift up after the car shifted up so it shifts up again when you hit purple lights and for downshifting you are just screwed xD
The gears do this when over 50% you can just lose a gear for a few laps then it will return. Because your % was higher the issue was more severe but there is always a possibility that the issue will resolve itself after a few laps. Turbo wear will just mean you have a lower top speed
I experienced something similar but I did not finish. Basically, I was at China and forgot to change one of the parts. I was doing a 25% lap race and I was on the last few laps but one of the parts reached 100% and my car blew up. I was disappointed as I feel I do better at China than I do at other tracks like Monaco. Can't remember which part it was that failed though (when you change the parts, it's the one on the top of the list).
I do full races. This has happened to me as well. The gearbox randomly does this during the race and fixes itself between laps, this will be incurring during the rest of the race. I also hadn't pitted between laps to "fix" either. Even if pitted, the problem will still incure.
The gearbox starts failing around 50%. At 75% the probability of a fault developing is high and it's gonna be a big failure as well. The turbo and gearbox are independent of each other in this case
Same here I remember quite well, career mode Bahrain, for some reason my Renault was skipping 4 th gear. Immediately went into the pits and the problem magically disappeared
I've had this happen in the last race for me (Monza), it fixed itself after a few laps, without pitting. My gearbox is at basially the same %. From about 60% on I've noticed that it'll drop a random gear occasionally as well which will fix after a few laps. Really really annoying.
Had this problem also in Spain! Kinda weird how there's no comms from the team who even when asked say that everything is fine. Pretty uncool. Wouldn't mind the gearbox breaking if it actually kept me informed about it!
I think that when the car slowed down in the pit lane there was less pressure on the whole transmission as well as on the turbo charger wich is related to the gearbox by the mgu-h and the clutching in front of the box may have returned the sequential gearbox at the original form so the problem was solved
I've had that failure couple of times when I've had around 70% wear on my gearbox. Gears changing slowly for a lap or two and then the problem goes away. I don't now if pitting helps anything or was it just coinsidence. I'll try that next time.
Its probably a glitch, if you look at the hands of the driver on the gear thingy, the gears only shift when the hands move, not when you press the shift down button
Do your upgrades on time. You should shift earlier. Your error is that you keep too long on a certaing gear upreving your engine in a unnecessary mode. The F1 Cars have a lot of torque to push the car through the corners at higher gears.
Not sure if its like in f1 2019 but in 19’ of the gearbox has 70% or more wear it has issues. I was just looking around and trying to see the colors of wear which i now know its green 0-49 yellow 50-74 orange 75-89 and red 90-100
You just had really good luck that the gearbox fixed its self, I had 4th gear die on spain, worst part is every time i shifted through it in the corner I nearly died of understerr
I have had the exact same issue with the gearbox in the Spanish gp with the same amount of wear although I had replaced other parts of the engine so no failure anywhere else. After a lap or too the gearbox fault seems to fix itself even without going through the pits debating taking penalty and changing gearbox
My Turbo broke down in the last sector of the last lap of a 50% Race. I had luck (because of rain -> reduced speed), reached the finish line with 80 kmh and lost only 1 place.
I reckon also having auto pit would have confused the game so yes the gears woulf have come back but because you had auto pit it tricked the game into thinking your gearbox was fine
Pit crew could possibly reset the system to see if it's a computer problem. If it's an internal problem then you're better off parking it on the trailer and go home. =P
They should have kept the animation of you shifting even tho it wasnt actually shifting. That way you would know if they game knows you are trying to shift, just the car isnt responding.
I was on my last lap in a McLaren and my turbo broke. I barely made it across the line but still finished 1st by a couple seconds. I went back to RedBull next race lol
I'd just like to race a season without having to d oall the other tinkering. The tinkering is good, don't get me wrong, but I personally can't be bothered to do it at the moment. How to just race the races and enjoy the racing ?
Electrical fault?master reset? in pitlane yes your turbo went bang but i think it happens real life if major issues happen it can cause electronic issues everything is linked on modern f1 cars
Mate I blew my gearbox in Monaco and going into the pits does sort of fix the gearbox except mine took 5minutes to be fixed but..... The gears jammed and I was stuck on 3 so I was buggered and came in the first luck (I fitted a completely new motor except gearbox)
same thing happened to me in F1 2019. Lucky me I just jumped in to pit and it fixed it like you said but few laps later I totally lost gearbox or turbo and DNF from the race while I was the first car pffffffffffffffff
I lost 4th gear with the gearbox at 51%. It basically just ups the % chance something will go wrong the more worn it gets. Seems like a pretty simple algorithm.
Comrade Oblivous yea, I had pretty much the same , luckily it happened in practice at 50+ 5th gear just jammed
yeah once you get to 50% you can lose a gear for a certain ammount of time, i dont think what happened in the video was a gearbox issue alone, probably the TC like said in the vid
TheIceKeyblade doubt it. TC has nothing to do with the gearbox. His gearbox was 74%. Failures start at 50%.
At 70%+, what happens in the video will probably happen.
But I don't understand how going into the pits would solve this.
1:09 Honestly what we are doing here, racing or Ping Pong? Honestly blue flag
He is came like a torpedo!
ITzAlpHA hahahahahahahha
Vettel said that didn't he?
😂😂😂😂😂
The Gearbox doesn't fix in the pitlane, u will momentarily have shifting problems but then after some time it fixes back. Sometimes when u hear that a car has mechanical problems, it's bc they might be missing a gear, but it comes back later on.
PhoenixAzureGaming ur right as in real life they have a switch/button on the steering wheel so the system can find a way round it
PhoenixAzureGaming yeh, while the cars stationary, they can soft reset the settings. Fixing any possible issues. Game must be similar.
PhoenixAzureGaming i think it was the high CE as the gearboc would be by wire so the CE condition would effect that
PhoenixAzureGaming I had that too
PhoenixAzureGaming you is a wee bit wrong
Gearbox problem usually fix themselves after a couple of laps. So it was probably just a coincidence.
You know that the gearbox can break at any percentage 55% and up
GP2 Engine
AAAGH!
Gp2 engine Gp2 aaaah
What a Yoke!
"NO POWER,NO POWEER"
Imagine driving just with 6th gear for 7 laps like Ayrton Senna, and still finish first
N.W.A that's why he's the best
Tony Kara So you never heard of Jim Clark.
had an experience (idk how to write it) like that in Monaco. (thank god it was at Monaco)
Even a McLaren passed you
scenes
NtsParadize

Alex the gearbox might have overheated if that can happen
NtsParadize 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
That happened while i was eeading this😂😂😂
Gearbox 74% DAMAGED (not 74% healthy, 74% DAMAGED). "I thought that was totally fine".
Dude... xD I mean think about it, your gearbox is literally 74% broken, how is that "fine"?
I've seen alot of career mode videos where people have been underestimating the engine/gearbox wear, and it bites them hard. It's been kinda funny.
I can confirm this is a gearbox issue. In my Baku race after the start this same thing happened to me at around 65% wear on the gearbox while everything else was -20% worn. It fixed after about 2 laps.
More to the point how did you not get a penalty for taking out Vettel?
Jamie Brooks well thats the f1 2017 penalty system to you
Unfortunately you don't dnf when your parts are broken 😑
Jonas Müller It just did for me. it got to 99% and about half a lap later it just DNF'ed me. didnt even have to use the memu
If a part is 100% you do dnf
I had my ICE fail, it instantly locked up the rear axle and I was DNF'd out of the race. No option to restart or flash back, was instant session over.
P5YcHoM4N Same. I was already expecting it going into Monaco, purposefully using all 70%+ worn parts because I know I suck in Monaco.
Broke down in the middle of the road (obviously, Monaco) and took out Bottas (who's lapping me) in the process. Lol
Akmal Ibrahim Which parts had you fitted? Still the first ones or the second ones?
I think it was like an electronic issue between the pedal shifters and the gearbox so when you came into the pits your crew could do some stuff with the onboard computer of your car to fix the problem. Thats the only way i can explain this.

Medium traction control....... exposed
Bob Hill I never said I didn't use it....
AlexZAfRo i use max xD
Bob Hill it's faster than no traction
Smoove but use traction control in f1 is like going to a stripclub and ask for a hug...
There was traction control in F1 for years. Before it got banned, of course.
Could it be that: Your TC affected the CE in a way that the Gearbox didn't respond properly and that the pit-crew did a quick (electronic)reset during the stop?
That's pretty cool, part failure really adds a real element to the game from real-world F1, you get to feel the real frustrations too! :)
Codemasters should put in pit stops retirements
I have had gearbox troubles too, and immediately hit pause, instant replay, get back to the moment before I had my issue (even 1sec before it happens), then do the flashback (at the time without the issue), comeback into the race and POUF !! NO MORE PROBLEMS !! Helped me "win" a few times...
CE wear. it can be controlled by the team so they reset it during the race to fix it

From my experience, the gearbox has trouble for a amount of time, I'm guessing that it was just coincidence you going through the pit lane and it working again, rather than the pit sorting the problem
I had a problem with my 5th gear yesterday, a pit didn't fix it, it did however made it better with it occuring less during the ongoing race.
I'm thinking maybe they could loosen up the clutch timings and engagement speed to ease the load on the gearbox, obviously at the expense of shifting performance. it seems the green RPM dots stoped working at the same you experienced the issue.
Worn MGU-K takes away rich fuel mix ... I think haha
Dom3663 Yep. It says so in the game.
Shouldn't it take away the ERS on the rear and Destroy the rear braking?
Had the exact same issue, luckily mine was only in practice
I had the same problem! Gearbox losed 4th gear and the went to the pits and it was back! 5 laps later all the gears were gone!

Not gonna lie the game has some big glitches in multiplayer aswell
Dan Dan i get disqualified every race^^
This wasnt a glitch, these failiures are meant to happen
George Sutton so ur telling me, when u pit, ur car engine should fix itself?
Engine Problem?! Thats not a Honda O_o
It doesnt fix it the gearbox may click back in and start working properly overtime, this has also been experienced in AR12's chanell
I’m thinking the time in the pit cools the trans a bit enough to work properly
I love how you make your Career Mode Live Streams, very good idea so we can see how good of a driver you are, btw you are a great driver!
So the gearbox is fixed when the automatic pit driver takes over. That's a major bug.
You earned yourself a subscriber!
I've ordered this game just want to ask people's thoughts on whether it's worth buying it with a steering wheel or just play on the normal controller?
I lost 5th gear in Russia during the race but stayed out and got it back
Should I get F1 2014, 2013, 2015, 2012, 2016 or 2017? I have a GTX 950 and an i3 4170
I was on my last lap in a McLaren and my turbo broke.
For those who think this is a coincidence, yes you can fix shifting problems by pitting. At least in my experience.
Actually if it was a problem with electronics, it could easily be fixed in a pitstop with a reset of the system.
Electrical fault?master reset? in pitlane yes your turbo went bang but i think it happens real life if major issues happen it can cause electronic issues everything is linked on modern f1 cars
Maybe your gearbox wasn’t broken per say maybe it just glitched and putting your gearbox in pit maybe reset the gearbox
I experienced it it could've just been a coincidence that it got fixed in the pits that didn't happen with mine
Mate I blew my gearbox in Monaco and going into the pits does sort of fix the gearbox except mine took 5minutes to be fixed but..... The gears jammed and I was stuck on 3 so I was buggered and came in the first luck (I fitted a completely new motor except gearbox)
Alonso said: "Engine!! Engine problem!!"
Bro I always retire cause the power unit breaks...
Anyone else got a day one patch
Kinyanjui Plays Not checked yet but online bugs have been solved for me and Raikkonen isn't OP anymore
Got a 5GB update but not the big numbers :/
Richard Fodor yeah same no spec update for 5 gigabytes
Kinyanjui Plays there needs to be one
Kinyanjui Plays Yup 1.3
Possibly the pit speed limiter sort of reset the gearbox??
I've done 6 races and have had already had to change my ICE and every other part. My new engine is already worn out. Am I doing something wrong guys
The Gearbox didnt heal cause you pitted my gearbox also broke down and I had the same issue it also disappeard after time even tough i didnt pit
the gearbox fails, but is not gone completely. The problem will stay for a short while
Great vid
The cars engine will blow up if you get one part to 100%
The gearbox starts having issues at around 70% when I played.
same thing happened to me in F1 2019. Lucky me I just jumped in to pit and it fixed it like you said but few laps later I totally lost gearbox or turbo and DNF from the race while I was the first car pffffffffffffffff
Software reset? Entirely possible while at a standstill
I’m already on my 3rd power unit with 6 races these are full weekends career mode
How can I play with you? I'm on ps4
