  • On July 6 2014, Toronto fire, police, and paramedics responded to what was dispatched as a subway rescue.
Upon arrival crews found a person on the tracks with their shoes still on the platform. The victim was pronounced DOA. Witnesses described a gruesome sight as the victim jumped in-front of the train.
There was nothing emergency crews could do. Condolences to friends and family. R.I.P.

Lots of respect for firefighters. Union and management? That's an entirely different story.

That was neither. It was a TTC Special Constable.

@@HooksHalligans Very late, 8 years late lol. so these days TTC Special Constables run Amber and White lights not red or blue, any idea why is that?

I don't know all of the details, but I imagine that someone would have ad to make a call to a doctor or something, considering the victim was code 5 or code 6. To answer your question though, no. Toronto emergency personnel are not able to make the call that the vic is DOA or not unless there are obvious signs. Even then they must contact someone who can make the decision to not resuscitate, or to stop.

The paramedics on scene would have been able to pronounce the patient without calling a doctor, as long as there were signs of obvious death, AKA Code 5 (decapitation, transection, gross outpouring of cranial or visceral contents, etc...) Otherwise they would have had to call to their doctor to receive an order to stop resuscitation efforts. In Ontario, paramedics are the only emergency service allowed to pronounce someone dead.

I think you must mean College Station? There is no Carlton Station.

I think you are correct. It will be changed immediately. Thanks for pointing that out.
