  • Around 15:00 hours on August 4 2024 a U.S. flagged vessel; Quality Time called the United States Coast Guard, a Canadian vessel on fire in front of Lighthouse Beach in Port Huron. Quality Time had taken on the occupants of the burning boat and Coast Guard Station Port Huron along with Port Huron Fire Department responded. The U.S. Coast Guard arrived to find the fire had self extinguished. The Canadian vessel was towed and secured somewhere on the Black River while the occupants of the boat were transferred to another Canadian pleasure craft and returned to Canada. Video: Buff 1

Black River is not exactly the nearest convenient boatyard, I wonder why a Canadian craft would get towed there?

I would guess it has something to do with the US emergency personnel coming to Canada. There was quite the debate on what do do with the rescued passengers, likely for the same reason. I assume that's why another Canadian vessel took them onboard.
