    Just to add this - starting from Raspberry Pi 3 all models include an onboard WiFi adapter (no need to buy dongles). I knew I'd forget some piece of info. :) Personally, I still prefer a good old Ethernet cable, the connection is more stable that way.

      Except when using my tablets or phones away from desk, bedside or reading lounge chair, EVERYTHING in my home uses wired Ethernet.
      No lag, no congestion, no signal strength drop….
      EVERY area in my house has at least two cable drops (RJ45 keystones), with minimum CAT7 cabling (*).
      All cable is run in conduit (**) for ease in repair and future upgrade.
      And I have three RPi-4 running as Wi-Fi endpoints to cover weak-signal areas, and as “portable” Wi-Fi (using a 10Ah pack).
      * i got freaky lucky one day at a scrapper (scrap-yard). I found seven (7!) 8,000’ reels of Plenum-rated CAT7. Brand-New, never used, never opened… $30 per reel. This was just as the pandemic shut-downs had started, the owner was anxious to draw down his inventory. Yeah, freak luck.
      ** i often stop at commercial or industrial construction sites to ask the foreman if i can scrounge the scrap-pile before it is piled into dumpster (I’ve never met a foreman who will let you climb INTO the dumpster.. it’s important to get the stuff while it’s still on the exposed scrap-pile).
      This is where i get my conduit (among other things). Two to five foot long Schedule-80 stuff is common as dirt.

      Thanks. If I use Pi 4 to stream Tidal can I stream mqa? Can mqa be output bitstream to a mqa dongle dac such as tempotec mhd?

    • @iiWiReviews
      @iiWiReviews  2 роки тому

      @@leonardopapantoniou4227 I'm not sure about every Pi OS out there, but RoPieeeXL that I'm using can pass-trough MQA info to the DAC. It's just that DAC needs to be capable of unfolding it (so-called hardware MQA support) cause no Pi OS does it through software (only the official Tidal app can do that).

    If I saw your review 2 weeks ago I would make myself a Berry streamer but I went with a suggestion from Darko review and bought Xiaomi mi box s. I did all that myself, and get no signal to the DAC. Using RPi 4 and Volumio by USB -> DAC.
    DAC, via a Anthem STR integrated says no signal. I see “STR USB hi res” as a choice in sources, so unit sees it, but no music. Using Qobuz as music source.
    I think the issue is in the configs someplace I’m missing, but I don’t know what half of the configs actually do!

    Ok great. So the USB 2 is the best output for connecting to an external DAC. Is there a Hat that can provide an even better output? I don't want a DAC in the raspberry pi system, just improved output.
    I'm not really sure about why some outputs are better than others so if you have a video explaining that or can recommend one, that would be great.
    I'm planning to connect the pi to a denifrips Aries 2 and then to a sugden a21. Is the pi unbalanced in a system like that? If so do you have an alternative recommendation?
    If you can't get round to replying, no worries, I will find the answers to these things, I'm just wondering what your perspective might be.

    Another great and very helpful video. Thank you very much.
    I'd love more video's about this topic. For streaming Tidal, I just hook up my LGV30 phone to my amplifier through 3,5 mm to RCA for streaming. I would love to experiment with a streaming solution like this, purely for the convenience of remote control but higher quality than bluetooth. Since Chromecast audio is gone, branded streamers are too expensive. The long term support for branded apps is also a concern.
    As my amplifier does not have USB input, I would need an extra (affordable) DAC. If you make more video's about this topic, I would love to hear your thoughts about raspberry + DAC combo's, specifically from the point of view of "convenient living room streaming" set-ups. This affordable streaming solution becomes less affordable if there is a need to add a €200 DAC, or less convenient if there is the need to juggle with an extra remote of a DAC that doesn't power on automatically etc.
    Keep up the good work!

    Cool intoduction. I'm using a Pi4 with raspberry pi os and hifiberry-dac2hd myself as a minidlna-mediaserver and dlna-renderer with upmpdcli/mpd and BubbleUPnP as Android-Controlpoint. My only problem is streaming tidal from the web, because BubbleUPnP still routes it through the smartphone but my WLAN is somewhat unstable. I've tried hard to find a solution to stream it directly through the pi, but my only working solution so far is to ssh into the pi to start the tidal-webplayer. You mentioned streaming from the web to the pi in your video and I'd love to hear what software is working for you concerning this purpose.

    does using more RAM on the Raspberry Pi affect the response of the streamer that we make, especially if we switch applications from Spotify, for example to Tidal, then to other applications, if RAM is small (1GB) is there a possibility it hangs? thank you

    Hi.
    I would like to use the pi as a bridge in state of my notebook..
    Going from my main pc as the source for Tidal and my music files
    via powerline/powerlan(over the powernet in my flat)
    to my smsl m-300 mkII dac which is located round 10 meters away in another room.
    I am not realy sure if this works and what i also need for this.
    I have orderd the pi 4 board with 8gb, nicro sd card, power supply, case.
    Not sure about the os because some say volumio is not good.
    Did i need to know anything about upnp or dlna?
    Thats all new for me.
    Thanks.

      As far as I know, Tidal app cannot cast to Pi. I know that Roon app can but it costs money. If you're willing to use the phone instead of PC than there are some free/cheap apps that can cast Tidal stream to Pi (mconnect and Bubble UPnP). I'm using phone with mconnect personally for Tidal streaming.

    Does anyone know the best way to use PLEX with this setup?
    My music is on an external HD. I have PLEX on a few computers and phones. I have amps and speakers in a few rooms. The easiest implementation I have at the moment is to have the HD connected to an always on laptop that has my main PLEX server. I usually just play PLEX through my phone by plugging it in by RCA cable to the amp in whatever room I'm in. I can also use bluetooth, but the quality is even further diminished of course.
    Ideally, I'd like to have a sonos/roon-like situation where I could just control everything from my phone with the PLEX app and hear the same music in every room. The only potential (low cost) solution I've seen is Arylic, but not sure about them - for a number of reasons. Of course I can't afford Roon and my current old HiFi setups are good enough quality-wise already.
    I guess that's two different questions, but any help coming up with a better set up would be appreciated. I'm not married to keeping PLEX, but it is what I use at the moment. I also can't export playlists from PLEX (and PLEXamp) and it has poor to no artist and album info (and all of the other things that Roon is better at).

    May I ask is RoPieee still your choice. I was using volumio but switched to moode, I have found moode to sound better. how I dont know how im using the same USB DAC with the same Pi just different software. Moode seems more detailed. So im investigating RoPieee to see how that sounds.

    Simple language - easy to understand......have a question - as the video doesnt clarify "output" options availble for high quality 2 Ch audio output ..... for me to connect the Pi3 b+ to an external DAC - does it have a USB A output ? If not - what's the best option ?

    • @iiWiReviews
      @iiWiReviews  3 роки тому

      Pi 3 B+ does have USB out so you can connect it to the USB input on your DAC directly...

    Fantastic video, thanks! 😊
    What would be the advantage of using something like this versus a Chromecast Audio? Gapless? WiFi options? Sound quality?
    Many thanks!

    • @iiWiReviews

      In a nutshell, it's more versatile and adaptable to different needs. Those may be needing an USB output or wanting to add some of these audiophile HATs which do elevate sound quality above Chromecast or bare Raspberry Pi. But if you're happy with Chromecast's features, it's perfectly fine and fuss-free choice.

    Very understandable presentation. I have spent a ton of time on UA-cam trying to get a overall picture of a workable streaming Pi setup and you have done a fine job getting just the facts across. Nice work.
    Assuming I go from the Pi4 USB into a standalone D/A, will my quality be as good as if I was using a Pi with a D/A hat? With Pi 4 I believe that the USB is of higher quality and I won't need any HAT and can go directly to an external A/D for lossless streaming of high quality. Comments?

    • @iiWiReviews
      @iiWiReviews  3 роки тому

      Thanks! I haven't tried Pi 4 personally but it's generally accepted that its USB output is superior to that of 3B+ while hat such as DigiOne is superior to Pi 4's USB no matter what version it is mounted on. That said I feel Pi 4 and its USBs are a really good place to start. If you ever feel the need, you can add some hat later on.

    It’s a bit of an Off Topic but I would really appreciate if u could give me some advice. I’m looking for and headphone amp (just amp, no dac) with LINE OUT, so that the volume knob doesn’t control the output volume from the rca. Somthing like the Fiio K5 (not the pro) or topping A30. If anyone could help me I would love it! 💪🏻
