      @marsbase3729 in laymans terms... u know the screwdriver bits that u never really use? The Philips but they have 4 more points and don't work well with normal screws? Those are posi bits. Posi-driv screws are more resistant to stripping and torque down further. It's an all around better screw.

    Firstly just use the right bit for the screw. And if you happen to somehow foul the right bit in the right screw just let go and get a new bit. They qualify as a consumable commodity. Meaning they are going to wear out and also break. As for reshaping the bit I find when I have to, a file works pretty well. High speed grinding weakens the temper.

    • @matter9
      @matter9 3 місяці тому

      If you’re using a file to dress the driver it’s unlikely hardened, evident by the driver becoming damaged rather than stripping the screw. And if it’s not hardened then there is no temper to ruin.

    • @johnbower
      @johnbower 3 місяці тому +4

      if you can file the bit then that is where the problem is.

    • @knackerEv
      @knackerEv 3 місяці тому

      While it is completely possible to file any bit, including so called hardened bits, why bother. As a consumable commodity they are meant to be disposable. No manufacturer is going to make a bit that won't dull or break. It wouldn't help to sell you more bits. In all probability you will have plenty of bits on hand. I keep several kits with as wide a variety as possible. Most kits come with spares of the most commonly used bits. I can never be over equipped with tools. And with each new tool I'm better equipped than ever before.

    • @richardsalinetrojr1957
      @richardsalinetrojr1957 3 місяці тому +2

      It'll only weaken the temper if you get the material too hot. You do realize that knife makers do their final grinding after they do the heat treat and temper. Besides that, files don't really do much to metal when it's been heat treated properly. The file should just skate over the metal hence the reason why people use files to check their heat treats if they can't afford to buy the Rockwell testing files or a professional Rockwell tester

      ale teraz jest taka moda aby wszystko naprawiać na pokaz by mieć o czym nakręcać filmiki i o czym mówić że ma się takie super zdolności do tracenia swojego czasu robiąc rzeczy dużo dużo gorsze ale za to samemu
      moda na bycie głupie i nieefektywne życie samodzielnie
      tylko patrzeć jak ludzie będą samemu robić sobie samochody zamiast kupić gotowy

    Really there are three different standards: the japanese JIS standard, the Phillips and the Pozidrive. The Pozidrive is the easiest to identify, while there are subtle diferences between JIS and Phillips and you can easily destroy the head using the wrong screwdriver.

  • @marlspieker

    Grinding this way a screw driver bit means that you change the size of the tip so it fits perhaps to bigger cross recess -/ cross slot screws, but not to the former size it had been created to be used for.
    It's often a typical amateur's fault to use the wrong bit for a screw that needs another different bit to get drilled perfectly into the wood. It has a lot to do with patience.

    Some screws you have to grind the tip off just so they fit better. Slotted and phillips screws suck, everything should be square drive or better. Have no idea why, when there are better driver shapes, we still use them.
