its because it was a creature at the time
kind of like when you play a terror on a tree top village, but with counters

Is this not the same Pro Tour where Randy talks about how Nassif said if just played a tad better he would have 12 top 8's when in normal speak that actually would be closer to 15 if not 20? He does make mistakes but he's also the only player in the game that won't just beat you as soon as possible but will let you have extra turns so he can have more fun before showing you the fact your fate was sealed turns ago.

Why did LSV scoop when he had potentially more turns to draw an answer? The last Volcanic Fallout puts Nassif at 3 and LSV at 10. Following dragon attack puts LSV at 6. Bitterblossom during upkeep puts LSV at 5 with a token, which can chump next turn. Assuming Nassif plays nothing significant, LSV would have 5 more draw steps by chump blocking each turn before Bitterblossom killed him. Of course, either player could change the board state with any one draw, but the idea is that LSV had more draw steps with his Bitterblossom producing chump blockers every turn. It's like LSV miss counted, thinking the dragon had already gotten another unblocked attack in for 4. Randy Bueler seemed pretty sold on that idea also though. If I'm missing something here, someone clue me in please.

ThriftedMedia LSV goes to 5 as a result of the volcanic fallout. Broodmate hits for four and bitterblossom takes the last point (around 43:20) I think where you are rightly confused is that LSV's life total on the screen is not updated. MTG coverage before 2010 was not the best at keeping life totals updated by the second.

for the mutavault counters wouldn't the counters be removed?

Did LSV ever have a chance to win here? It's like Nassif's deck is so much more powerful he can afford to wait and make more mistakes.
But since we didn't know the outcome of the game at the time that's why we're all watching it.
