'open' elections would be the more appropriate term...even here in US are neither 'fair' nor 'free'. Lobbying+Media+PACs = only politicians or those with $$$$ get to even be considered for any significant position. On ballots the 'incumbent' is listed as that (they win high % of time, even tho many prob don't know who state/fed reps are)...and write-in names aren't seriously considered (unless they registered in that voting area as 'candidate').

My great aunt lived until she was 102 years old and had such a sharp mind I was always in awe. My grandfather got dementia at 71 years old. Definitely a too sick problem. The issue with being "too old" is only concerning the fact that other generations aren't being represented well enough in our federal government to the point there is a huge disconnect. That had nothing to do with the debate however.
@@AngryOvaries IDK, I think the "age in govt" bit is misrepresented. There's nothing wrong with being old if your wits are still sharp. History has a way of repeating, and older folks are less likely to fall into the trap of repetition than the younger folks. Except when they're corrupt and stupid.
The real problems we have are ones of unsharp brains in both young and old, plus great gobs of corruption in young and old. Young Greta, for example, strikes me as being as corrupt as old Al Gore.
