  • A nice little ramble about a stunning wootz shamshir that was on my site until recently.
    This sword is a rare example of a heavily curved shamshir from the Kutch region of India who were famed for their copperwork.

    Is it typical for these to curve all throughout the blade like that? For the Persian and Ottoman ones it seems more common for the curve to start at about halfway to 2/3rds down the blade (although many of the European mamluk swords that imitate them seem to have a curve more similar to this).

      Yeah most of these tend to have an even curve, they make for an interesting sword and for Indo-Persian pieces they usually have less restricted grips so you don't need to get so close to get a cut.

      @@thierrytheswordguy6913 Interesting. That makes me wonder whether the often similar curvature on European "mamluk" swords is actually inspired by such Indian swords, rather than those of the actual Mamluks (which tend to curve more like the Ottoman ones AFAIK).
