    Laura Knight is fantastic. I love her painting called "In for Repairs" which shows a group of women mending a barrage balloon. She has several paintings in the excellent "Now You See Us" exhibition on at Tate Britain until October. Highly recommended.

      @@thembill8246 It is a really dumb take... but if those who are incapable of raising children to be "useful members of society" stopped having children then the Children's Aid societies and the legal Courts that are set up around them would go out of business and all those people with their University degrees would be out of work. Where I am there are also connected gov't agencies who would also have no work.
      Why would people who should never even have house plants be forced to have children? Why do we look down upon those who choose to have children? It is not easy.
      Those who want children should be celebrated and supported. Those who do not want children should not be harassed. Too bad it seems to be the other way around. The population world wide is going to collapse without the need for wars or germs.

    It’s amazing that in her Nuremberg painting you can tell who she painted despite the eye naturally being drawn to the back with the destruction.

    I would love an audiobook version with J.Draper reading it. I don't have much time to read, but I watch (mostly just listen to) videos while driving. Thus, an audiobook version of Mavericks would be amazing. I'd pay extra for it!

    Ordered the book:)and tks for reminding us of the bravery and talent of this lady. I would think God would want us to fulfill our full potential. Organised Religion has the straight- jackets. Its easy to forget what women have gone through to gain independence and the ability to follow their talents and succeed. Wish i lived in uk, would certainly be on your tours , you have a wealth of historical factual knowledge.

    Oo oo, she was from my hometown Long Eaton! One of the few people we have. She enrolled in Nottingham art college at 13 and actually took on her mother’s classes when she was unable to

    Laura Knight's "Self Portrait" (sometimes "Self Portrait with Nude", or "The Model") is an extraordinary picture, controversial in its time, and still with an air of challenge about it, as well as being beautiful. It's in the National Portrait Gallery.

    Everyone men and women was involved in the war effort. They all had vital jobs to do and just got on with it. What they went through was just incredible. I don’t think our generation appreciate what the war generation went through. To me they are heroes. In their youth, they saved the world .

    Women enrich our world in a myriad ways and can enrich their children, male and female, to make this a better world for all.
    As for 'god'; a mythical being ... We are all people, capable of wonderful things....

I could have also used Ada Lovelace instead of Hedy, to make the point. The fact that YOU seem to have missed much of Miss Drapers video speaks more of you than it does of me.
      As for something I have discovered, that few seem to know about, that is an entirely different subject, and one you'd be surprised to find out actually exists.

    Great work as always. I have this big fat book called The 20th Century, I think it was published 1970-ish. It is a history of the twentieth century up until that point. It has that painting of Ruby Loftus in a chapter on life at the home front during WWII. Great book and painting. I didn't know anything of the background of it until...now.
    And yeah, the whole women staying home and making babies thing is just, wrong and horribly out of date.
