I guess one needs a bit of an "electronic hand" to do that work. But I admire that you repair such a cheap lens instead of throwing it away as most people would do. Very interesting to watch!

Thank you. I just took a lens apart to find one of the gears you showed all stripped. New gear is on order. This was a lens that someone had cross-threaded a filter into and probably really cranked on it trying to get it off.

Any idea why when I put an older lens on my 1300d the camera shuts off, if I dont twist the lens all the way to lock it will work but it seems like when I twist it so that the connections all line up it shorts the camera out, sound familiar?

I already have the pieces and I proceeded to dismantle it but my canon 18-55 stm seems that it does not have the system of wheels in the upper zone like yours.

What camera did you use to shoot this video, I loved the accurate and quick silent focus. My EFS 18-55 will move the motor in one direction only. If I can't get it to work properly, I might want to replace the camera too. Contacting Canon directly did not result in anything helpful.

I was able to fix my EFS 55-80 lens (that would auto focus in, but not out) by doing the simple lens pull.
I have been trying to keep a high-quality look to my UA-cam channel by always using a tripod (shaky handheld shots are so distracting); but my lack of autofocus camera greatly limits my content.
Are you suggesting that I go for the 90D, or is there something else out there that I should be considering?

Few days ago my Tamron 150-600mm G2 stop auto focusing. Focus motor is always moving and trying to focus but the focus sensor couldn't stop the motor that's why focus motor always keeps moving even after it's last point that's why it gives some bad sounds when focus point reached at last point and could not focus at all. I tried in different body but result is same.

Eagle Freedom Hi Jeff.... if you installed another lens and that’s a known good lens... then you’ve got something going on in the camera itself.... I’m sorry I don’t have any suggestions on that one... you might try a google search on your specific model... or see if there’s a yahoo group for canon cameras... possibly get ahold of a service manual to see which module inside the camera controls the autofocus.. I apologize I didn’t have a better answer

HI, I have a link to the gear 5 from amazon in the description. The original source I had when I made this video doesn't seem to have them anymore, and I can't seem to find a good source for gear 4. You might try to call canon at this number and see if they can sell you the parts...Genuine Canon replacement service parts, including inkjet printer print heads are available to purchase by calling the Canon Parts Order Desk at (866) 481-2569. Thanks and I hope this helps..

I can't find the source I used to get the individual gears that I bought when I made the video,. but if you go to ebay and search for "canon 18-55 focus motor" I found several. You'll have to change the whole motor assembly which is what I'm taking apart here in the video. Once you get it to that point where the motor is exposed, it shouldn't be much more difficult to remove the whole thing and swap it out. Or you can probably call Canon parts and maybe buy the parts directly from them.
