  • Hello everyone,
    In this video I will show you how to swap out the noisy fans out of your Emotiva A300 and replace them with other fans of your choice.
    Emotiva is using 2 fans that are 70x15 mm in size, they use a 2 pin connector and the voltage of the fan is 12 v.
    As a replacement fan I went for Noctua's 60 mm fans since I was unable to find a quiet fan that fits the size Emotiva used. If you plan to use the same fan as I did make sure you buy longer screws since the ones that are used inside the amp are 20 mm and your new fan will have 25mm depth. You can use the old screws but it will be harder to fix the fan, and you will probably crack the fan's case (as I did).
    Also note that the Noctua fans are 3 pin connector and Emotiva is using a 2 pin connector so you will have to cut the connector from the old fan and use it. Just solder the same color wires together from your new fans and the connector and just ignore the other wire (make sure you isolate the loose end).
    PS: I asked Emotiva about the noisy fans and they told me to go visit my supplier, and so I did. There I found out that they swapped the fans of other A300 units with better fans, and told me they can help me or I can do it without any issues.

    I never hear my A-300 fans running at all. But this is a well made video.

      В итоге поставил GlacialTech GT ICE 7 аналогичные по размеру 70мм оригинального, и на порядок дешевле. Винты пришлось заменить на M3x30мм. Наконечники проводов в разъёмах напаял заново из запаса. Но если запаса/магазина с деталями нет, то можно разогнуть те что есть, старые провода отпаять, новые напаять. Жёлтый провод изолировать (у меня термоусадочная трубочка в запасах).

    Hello, there was also an Emotiva a2 amplifier and I have not once heard the fans turn on, I recently replaced it with A5 and then when it's warm outside and the house, the fans sometimes turn on, do those fans that you installed still suit you? No noise from them?

    • @ewu2030
      @ewu2030  Рік тому

      Hi, they are still installed and mostly not running anymore because I changed the speakers and the new ones are not so power hungry. But I installed the same type of fans (hydrodynamic bearing) in my main router and that runs 24x7 for few years now and it works like a charm.
      And even before changing the speakers when they were starting you could not hear these new ones. I still think noctua fans are very good (hence the price tag)

    Thanks for posting this. My A-300 stock fans are junk just like everyone else's. They literally squeal and remain still until the pre-amp volume is turned up and the heat starts to generate. Once the fans start going the noise goes away. They simply won't start at the dB range I listen at (-20) and I can hear them clearly over the audio. What was Emotiva possibly thinking ??? LOL. Noctua's on the way .....

      Yeah I don't know what they did with this. Emotiva could have made this 50 bucks more expensive and place proper fans in there. And if yours doesn't really get hot you should use the ULNA as well and even at max speed you won't hear anything. I removed the ULNA adapters as mine is getting hot when I crank up the volume a bit...but even like this you can't hear them.

    Hi, I got the same problem with my out of warranty A300 and (for $170+shipping) Emotiva can address this by making some voltage modification in the circuit fan board..Nahh! Your Vid's great! Q: Is it safe to just glue the fans unto the bracket? Also, can I get the specs you specified like 70mmX15mm 2-pin and forget about the ULNA thing? Hope Noctua's got that size and connection..Did it work like no more audible, annoying squeaking sound from the Fans?! Thank you!!

    • @ewu2030
      @ewu2030  3 роки тому

      Hi, noctua doesn't have anu 70 mm fan. I went with 60x20 mm and now i removed the ulna adaptor as my amp is inside a poor vented cabinet and was still getting hot(in the meantime i changed the speakers to shelf and these are never warming the amp )
      As for the glue, not sure how well it will stick to the metal part. You should still use a screw on one side or some other way of fixing it.
      Enjoy it as it's a hard to beat amp for the price

    Did the old fans die? Or what was the reason you changed the fans.

    • @ewu2030
      @ewu2030  5 років тому +1

      Nope, they were just noisy as hell thus the replacement. In the meantime I've removed the ulna adapter since the amp was getting too hot. Now it's running cool and quiet...

      What does the ULNA adapter do?

    • @RadBadTad
      @RadBadTad 4 роки тому

      @@BUSTlCE This is likely way too late to matter, but the adapter lowers the overall voltage going to the fans and lowers their max speed, which in turn lowers how loud they can get.

    Does the fan push air into the heatsink? Or does it suck sir away from the heatsink?

    • @ewu2030
      @ewu2030  4 роки тому +1

      Not sure how they were set initially but since the heatsink is not open i put the current fans to blow air onto them. I suppose the original design would've been the same.

      Hi, I don't understand this writing but I guess based on the google translation that you mean if I could just turn the fans off. As I researched through the internet it seems that if you simply remove the connection from the fans the amp will detect it and activate the fault protection. I suppose that you can put a resistor to simulate the fan consumption...but as my amp is inside the furniture I need some air movement to make sure it cools off.
      And after few weeks with the new fans I think I can let them even without the ULNA adapter as 18 db is not that much at max speed.

    Can you please send me a link for the fan motor?Just got the 300 and is making that same noise people complaining about. And do you think if I send it back they’ll fix it. They probably will use the same fan motor.

    • @ewu2030
      @ewu2030  4 роки тому

      I got the fans from a local retailer...so the link is not really useful. Search for Noctua's fans with fluid bearing. You won't find any that will fit the current holes but you can glue them to the chassis with a glue gun. If you send it they will use the same fans, but i've heard that for some people it lost the odd noise.
      In the meantime I've replaced my speakers and now the fans never start because these are much easier to drive.

      connect some speakers to it :))...joking.
      my speakers have 2.7 ohm minimum impendance at ~120 hz and when the volume goes up it feels on the amp. With shelf speakers i haven't seen the fans going so far. Overall I am really pleased with the new fans as they are dead quiet. Also my amp is inside some furniture with not enough space to release all the heat and probably that adds to the heat.
