    I just used my Lexa 400 for YFT and was a blast too use. This reel is great for anything 30lbs and less.

      brianfmueller I totally agree! Love this reel for fish between 10-30 lbs! Can definitely handle up to 60 lb fish and bigger too, but I prefer bigger reels at that point just to be safe

    Can you elaborate on what happened at 2:50? Is this a problem unique to baitcasters or is this an issue with conventional if you dont lay the line right?

    • @Dirty.Hookers
      @Dirty.Hookers  4 роки тому +1

      Danh Nguyen with most baitcasters, the level wind stays place while line goes out. So while the fish was taking drag, the line was going back and forth, but the level wind stayed put causing it to come out like that.
      Also does the same thing when casting. The okuma Komodo level wind is the only bigger baitcaster I know of that the level wind moves back and forth with the cast and when line comes out

    • @DanhNguyenster64
      @DanhNguyenster64 4 роки тому

      @@Dirty.Hookers ah i see so since the level wind doesnt move while a fish is pulling drag the line can get snagged up a bit. Nice to know

      Externally they look the same other than different paint finish and power knob. However, the main difference is the internals. The gears of the HD model are made of stainless steel, while the new WN model is made with brass internal parts just as the first generation of LEXA reels from several years ago.

    Just started following you after looking at the lexas wn. I am in the ca delta sf bay area, fish out the golden gate and all that fun stuff. Can you toss a 1 ounce buck tail no problem? that would be the lightest. Just wondering how it is plugging the banks for stripers or even casting from the beach. Typically we use spinning tackle for the beach set up just curious as I dont need it but want it lol. Thinking it would even handle the sturgeon we have up here.

      Jeff Adelic it’s done fine. I just give it a quick rinse after I use it. I’ve used my lexa HD a lot more than my WN because it has stainless steal internals. Ive used my original lexa 300 for about 2 years and it has the same internals as the lexa wn. It’s held up perfectly fine in saltwater. I’ve caught plenty of yellowtail, calico bass, sand bass, barracudas. It’s handles a lot. I abuse the thing, to be honest with you, salt water is the least of my worries with my lexa 300 haha

    Should I get the Daiwa Coastal or Daiwa Lexa WN 300? I mainly fish inshore in the gulf of mexico

    • @Dirty.Hookers
      @Dirty.Hookers  7 років тому

      Frogliza I would go with the lexa 300. I personally have never fished the coastal but I think it only goes to a size 200. And you never know when you need that extra line capacity so the 300 would be a better decision in my opinion

    • @frogliza9977
      @frogliza9977 7 років тому

      I was thinking more along the lines of the coastal because I will be using it for bass fishing as well as inshore. On Daiwa's site it says it can hold 190 yards of 40# braid which would probably be enough for my needs. I will definitely check both out and will see which feels better. Thanks for leaving the comment.
      EDIT: I just looked and they are both $150 on amazon which is a really good price for both reels

    • @Dirty.Hookers
      @Dirty.Hookers  7 років тому

      Frogliza of course man. If your doing mainly bass fishing, then it basically comes down to which one you personally think you will like more. If the coastal has stainless steal internals id go with that, because the wn has brass internals. It’s fine and will hold up well, but stainless steel is better for saltwater

    • @frogliza9977
      @frogliza9977 7 років тому

      According to Daiwa's website the coastal has corrosion resistant ball bearings that "last up to 12 times longer than standard stainless steel ball bearings."

    • @Dirty.Hookers
      @Dirty.Hookers  7 років тому

      Frogliza at that point I’d just go with the coastal. You’d definitely want something that’s going to hold up longer. It would be a better choice for inshore fishing

  • @jonpaul4935

    I can't decide if I should get the 300 or 400, the majority of my fishing will be from the shore and I am kinda looking for a one reel that does all so I can use it for Big mouth Bass and tiger fish, also any recommendations on a heavy 2 piece rod ?

    • @Dirty.Hookers
      @Dirty.Hookers  6 років тому

      Jon Paul tiger fish!? Are you located in Africa? I wanna catch a tiger fish really bad! One of my bucket list fish for sure. That would come down to how much line capacity you want. If you put a full spool of 40# braid on a 300 you can get about 200-230 yards of line. If you put 50# braid on the 400 you should be able to get 300 yards of line. I’ve caught a good amount of 10+ lb fish on my 300 and it does just fine

    • @Dirty.Hookers
      @Dirty.Hookers  6 років тому

      Jon Paul as for a 2 piece rod, I honestly have no clue. I only fish 1 piece rods. I might have to start doing some research in the near future though because I would like to start traveling

    • @jonpaul4935
      @jonpaul4935 6 років тому

      Don't live in Africa anymore but I spend 2-3 months there a year visiting my family that still does, I cannot recommend going for tiger enough, the speed and energy of those fish but sadly catch and release is often not possible as by the time you have him by the boat he has quite literally fought to the death. I think I will end up going for the 400 so that I can go on a few charters from here in Perth and not get spooled when I hook into something larger. As for rod weight, correct me if I am wrong but the weight rating is more relative to my reels max drag than it is to the line that I am using ?

    • @Dirty.Hookers
      @Dirty.Hookers  6 років тому

      Jon Paul the rod weight is recommended for line use. The lexa only has about 13 pounds of drag but that is more then enough to land 30+ lb fish. So choosing a rod weight is depending on the average sized fish you’re targeting

    • @jonpaul4935
      @jonpaul4935 6 років тому

      the 400 has 12kgs of drag so 25lbs, would spool it with 50lb braid so i would need a ~50lb rod 0.0

      Luke Cara thanks man! I used the okuma scti extra heavy for my lexa HD and haven’t yet gotten a specific rod for the Winn yet but I’m between getting the same one or trying the shadow stalker. If you want my opinion on something I’ve used. The scti is absolutely incredible! For the extra heavy model it’s an 8’6 length. It’s got enough bend to give that extra little whip when casting surface irons or big swim baits. But also plenty of back bone for that extra leverage against a big fish. Honestly has to be one of my favorite rods I own. And it’s only $150 I think. Can’t remember. Definitely a Big Bang for your buck!

The Tranx 400 was smaller than I thought and has a max drag of 18 lb. I went with the Lexa and paired it with my 8' Phenix Black Diamond rod... threw a 2 oz weight 65 yards and didn't really whip it. Would this reel have a problem casting 12 oz lures?

    • @Dirty.Hookers
      @Dirty.Hookers  7 років тому +1

      Anthony Sanchez I personally avoid using anything heavy using reels with a button freespool. It scares me because the slightest tap in the handle can put it in gear and I don’t want it to accidentally get put in gear while the line is going out really fast. I’ve seen a lot of people rockfish with lexas though and that’s their go to reel for rockfishing. I just don’t like having anything heavier then maybe 5 oz when I’m using it. That’s just me though

    • @lifeonhooktony1117
      @lifeonhooktony1117 7 років тому

      I appreciate your answer. I'm new to this type if fishing. So would a conventional reel be more appropriate for casting heavy jigs?

    • @Dirty.Hookers
      @Dirty.Hookers  7 років тому +1

      Anthony Sanchez yeah I do conventionals for heavy jigs. If you doing it for rockfishing, it doesn’t have to be too big. I use the okuma metaloid it’s small but still has enough line capacity for if I hook something big. Also a 2 speed reel helps reel in the fish easier when rockfishing. When fishing depths up to 300 ft and 12oz weights, it can get tiring sometimes so I’m all about anything that’ll help haha. But any conventional reel would be fine to be honest

    • @lifeonhooktony1117
      @lifeonhooktony1117 7 років тому

      Dirty Hookers you right 300 ft would take really long time, and I think this year the depth chart has changed to 360ft in california. Thanks for your help.

    I got a Lexa 400 HD last year from my kids. I fished it at Cedros Island last summer and quickly fell in love with it. In my opinion, there's nothing better for throwing the surface iron.

    • @Dirty.Hookers
      @Dirty.Hookers  6 років тому

      Paul Morgan I love it for surface irons!! It’s what used to learn for surface irons. Now I’m trying to get into conventional reels for irons though. I got them down but just need more practice for less errors on the water

    What kind of line were u using and what pound test

    • @Dirty.Hookers
      @Dirty.Hookers  7 років тому +1

      Frankin Huerta I don’t remember what kind of braid I got. I usually do 40 or 50 lb braid for my lexas. And on this reel I put a 50 yard top shot of 30lb mono (trilene). On my HD I did a 60 yard top shot of 40 lb trilene for surface irons

    • @frankinhuerta9820
      @frankinhuerta9820 7 років тому +1

      Dirty Hookers does it really matter to use floro carbon when fishing for yellow tail what kind fishing line do you recommend fishing for yellows I know trilene besides that

    • @Dirty.Hookers
      @Dirty.Hookers  7 років тому +3

      Frankin Huerta I personally don’t have a preference on line I just get trilene because it’s cheap. For yellowtail, the only time I’ll fish flouro carbon is when they are super finicky and line shy. That’s when I’ll tie on 25lb flouro. But that’s not too common. You can honestly fish 30-40 lb mono with live bait for yellowtail and be perfectly fine

    Do you think the 300 would hold up to this?

    • @Dirty.Hookers
      @Dirty.Hookers  7 років тому +1

      Brian Villasenor a 300 against yellows at this size would be a test against the angler. It would all depend on how you have your reel spooled up and have the drag perfect. I think it can be done but it would be tough fight

    • @Dirty.Hookers
      @Dirty.Hookers  7 років тому +2

      Brian Villasenor I think the best beamy for a yellow this size would be a full spool of braid and maybe a rods length top shot of mono or flouro

    • @greghong3717
      @greghong3717 7 років тому

      It wouldn't be a problem at all. I've landed lots of yellows and yft in the 30lb range with the old 300. Just use braid and a short top for maximum capacity.

    • @Dirty.Hookers
      @Dirty.Hookers  7 років тому

      Greg Hong that’s true. If the reel is filled with braid wish about a 6ft too shot you’ll be fine

    • @Dirty.Hookers

      Dirty Hookers would a 7 foot 15-40 line rate rod hold up to this?

    • @Dirty.Hookers

      Brian Villasenor absolutely. As long as you have a heavy enough reel that rod will be good.

    • @brianvillasenor4116
      @brianvillasenor4116 7 років тому

      Dirty Hookers yeah I have the lexa 400 hd now, i returned the 300 winn and got the 400 hd but what I found odd is they put 200 yards of 50 pound braid and 50 yards of 30 mono and it was full.

    • @Dirty.Hookers
      @Dirty.Hookers  7 років тому +1

      Brian Villasenor yeah honestly the specs on line is usually only accurate with the company’s line. Otherwise, it’s a bit off. But that’s still plenty of line. That’s exactly how my hd and wn are.

      Miguel Gallegos Silva this is the Daiwa Lexa Winn paired with the Okuma SCTi XH 8’6. And medium heave should be fine depending on specs. What’s the line rating?

    What line are you runing in the 400

    • @Dirty.Hookers
      @Dirty.Hookers  6 років тому

      IPL G 50# braid and mono depends on what I’m throwing. If I’m using lures I use 40# and if I’m throwing bait it’s usually 25#

    • @chrisvmartinez
      @chrisvmartinez 6 років тому

      @@Dirty.Hookers how long of a top shot do you run of that 40lb? I hear so many dudes have different opinions on it is why I ask

    • @Dirty.Hookers
      @Dirty.Hookers  6 років тому

      Christopher Martinez yeah there are tons of different opinions. I used to do about 60-80 yards of 40# so I would have a good casting length. But over the past year I started doing a full spool of braid and only a rods length of 40# top shot. I like that a lot more. It feels better to me and you also get a lot more line on these smaller reels

    • @Dirty.Hookers

      Glen Christenson it’s funny to me that you’re trying to talk shit on videos that are going on 3 years old. You are correct though, that is when I had started fishing for yellows. I’ve found a whole different side of respect for them over the last few years. I truely do wish there was a minimum size on yellowtail. Even a 32” yellow really isn’t that big of a fish. If I can bounce it, I’ll let it go. Last year I was at cedros and I was the only one out of everyone there who was throwing back 30+ lb yellows.
      I’m all for your views on yellowtail, but instead of trying to spread negativity, try spreading knowledge instead
