    Why so many people recording??? Such a remarkable mix of music / technology and people still don't get it. There's a certain magic in experiencing a live concert that often gets lost in the digital translation. When we view the world through the lens of our phones, we inadvertently distance ourselves from the raw, unfiltered beauty of the present moment. 😒

      It is true. We all need to be aware of our connection to the music. It was tough, every moment I felt like wow, that is new. Lots of phones it is true.

      EASY Answer: They don't give a rat's ass about the music, albeit it's hard to get excited about one of the world's most over-rated bands. It's all about showing off to their "friends" that they saw someone famous and here's the proof.

      I've seen the ticket prices,.. I do understand the tension of - personal recording, but - one can never capture the sphere and what it does..

    I remember seeing them on Liveline on RTE about 1978/79? They've come a long, long way. I cut the Edge's grass on Frankfort Ave. in 1982. He still owes me 50p. Larry walked past me outside Shennigans in Skerries ten years later carrying a tray of pints for his biker mates. So there.

      Too many inputs that eclipse the artists. The place is impressive but I’d rather prefer other places for a concert. I’ve seen U2 four times live and this has not been their best concert so far. They were younger and on the road most of the time. Anyway both parts very nice but separately, in my humble opinion.

    It would cost the band next to nothing to have one well-positioned person take a "fan" video of each concert and post it online, plus a few crew members can take some photographs. No edits. No post production. Let the audience know before the show starts where they can get the video online and that any other video recording will get you kicked out.
    I went to a Jack White concert and before the show started there was an announcement that professional photography of the show would be posted online for free and that phones were only allowed during the first song and the last song, unless Jack said otherwise, and an entire arena full of people followed the rules. That was a terrific compromise.

    • @GuitarManUpstairs
      @GuitarManUpstairs  8 місяців тому

      It's not a bad idea. Jack White also took a little too far and actually took people's cell phones away! Which these days that's actually a bit of a safety issue ... because what if the parents have an issue with kids at home and the babysitter can't get a hold of them. I ultimately do agree there was way too many phones out for the U2 show.
      I think they can be forgiven considering that it is the very first night at a brand new experience.

      I believe that your comment makes an assumption that filming the show makes it less enjoyable for the person filming. I'm not sure that that assumption is correct in all situations.
      And as far as the number of people filming I agree it's a little redundant kind of like this 15th comment on this video talking about how many people are filming.

    Bob Dylan has no phone clause at shows. He’s right. Who wants to pay for immersive experience then view on a 5 in screen?

    • @GuitarManUpstairs
      @GuitarManUpstairs  9 місяців тому

      Well that's certainly a point of view. It's important for all of us to have a POV. It's also important that we allow freedom and liberty.
      To your question it seems to me that either people disagree with your assertion that they are viewing it on a 5-inch screen or that they believe capturing some of the experience allows them to relive their experience later and therefore have a better and perhaps greater experience.
      I would also add that both the marketing department at the Sphere and the promotion team from U2 are likely quite happy that so many people took and posted videos to help them get their message out.
      I can certainly understand Bob Dylan's perspective, he might do well to remember that back when he decided to go electric that change in technology also wasn't received well. However he pushed forward because he knew that change was inevitable.

    Saw them in the early 90’s (achtung baby tour) and it was amazing. Saw them in 2010 and somehow, somewhere Bono thought I paid $175/ticket to be preached to between songs while we sat in 95 degree temps and 90% humidity in Tampa. He literally had a 10 minute video chat -right after a couple of great songs that had us all up and dancing - with some old rich bastard who happened to be on the international space station and they proceeded to tell us how we all needed to open our wallets and donate more for the starving population of Africa.
    Excuse me , Mr Billionaires?? Great way to bring the show to a crashing halt ,Bono.
    Every 10 minutes we were yelling “just sing Sunday effin Bloody Sunday already”!!
    Muse-the opening act- blew them off the stage that night. I’ll never waste another dime to see them live again.

It's not ageism,it's the reality of life.
