    Nice video! I have a 65 Wildcat with a single master cylinder and want to put a dual master cylinder. Where do you recommend I get parts from also my emergency brake isn’t working. Thanks

      My parts were from a mixture of sources including Amazon. For the emergency brake, I recommend used parts from BestOfferCounts, either his website or eBay username

      1964-1966 have the most improvements and have the non-dynaflow compatible crank.

    Thanks for all the posts!! What brake master and booster did you use to replace the old stuff? Did you have much adjusting to do on the push rod?
    Thanks!

      I was able to re-use the existing brake booster. It received a new coat of paint. The master cylinder is now an ACDelco 18M1027. The original pushrod depth of the single master cylinder is 1.63, and the replacement is 1.64, so no adjustment was necessary. 1964buick.com/resto_logs/dual_master/1964_Wildcat_dual_master_cylinder.htm outlines the conversion.

    Is the master cylinder intended for front drum brakes?

    • @1964buick
      @1964buick  3 роки тому +1

      It is; its an AC Delco 18M1027. Conversion is here: 1964buick.com/resto_logs/dual_master/1964_Wildcat_dual_master_cylinder.htm

    Hi joe, was wondering if you would know the dimensions for the rear drum brake hubs or know of any cars that share the same rear brake drum hub dimensions. I have a two door 64 wildcat and cannot find any rear drum brake hubs at any of my auto part stores. Thank you

      All full size Buicks and Rivieras have the same drums in 64. While auto parts stores don't have them, both Kanter www.kanter.com/products/brake-drum-bd2035 and OPGI sell the rear drums www.opgi.com/brake-systems/drum-brakes/1963-76-riviera-brake-drums/brake-drum-rear-1963-64-buick-riviera-12-x-2-br02033.html. Hope this helps!

    So on your front brakes did the drum rivets get ground off previously? It looks like i have to remkve the drum and hub as an assembly on my 64 lesabre

      Yes, a previous tire shop zipped them off. I didn't like it at the time, but it hasn't caused any ill effects.

    I bought the same master cylinder. However, the instructions don't specify which pot is the front brakes, and which is the rear. Since I'm going from a single pot to a dual pot, do I hook the front brakes to the front pot, or the rear? How'd you do yours? Mine's a 65 Wildcat.

    • @1964buick
      @1964buick  Рік тому +1

      Here is how I did mine: 1964buick.com/resto_logs/dual_master/1964_Wildcat_dual_master_cylinder.htm
      With the Inline brake lines, the front of the pot was for the front brakes, rear pot for the back.

    My 64 Riviera has the same front drum in the main picture for the video. How do I take that front drum off? I'm having a tough time taking mine off of my Riviera.

      There is a hole at the back bottom of the drum, there may be a plug in it. Pull the plug out, then rotate the star wheel until the shoes are as fall pulled in as possible. If it won't come off then, PB blaster around the lugs coming through the aluminum, and try some dead blow hammer shocks and some moderate taps on the back of the drum lip until it comes loose.

    • @geneatencio
      @geneatencio 9 місяців тому

      @@1964buick I tried doing that, but the star wheel is very stubborn and won't rotate more. Initially, it was rotating, but now I can't get it to budge.

      @@geneatencio Last step would be to carefully grind off the rivets and attempt to slide hammer them off.

      @geneatencio 9 місяців тому

      @@1964buick why grind off the rivets and separate the hub assembly from the drum?

      @1964buick  9 місяців тому

      @@geneatencio It eliminates one possible factor of how the drum is stuck on, with interference from the spindle.

    It does not appear that you added a proportioning valve when you changed from a single to a dual master cylinder and split the system into front and rear? Since you have been driving it a while now, have you noticed a need for one? Does it stop ok? I'm about to do the same thing to my 65. I eventually plan to do a front disc brake conversion, but right now I'm putting it back together with 4 wheel drums so I can get the car back on the road.

    • @1964buick
      @1964buick  Рік тому +1

      In the 60s GM handled drum proportioning by having larger wheel cylinders in the front drums than the back. Because the dual master cylinder simply turns one circuit into two, the factory porpotioning stays the same. I've had no brake issues. With a front disc conversion, a prop valve is required. Drums, GM already took care of it.

    Use different colored chaulk for the primary and secondary shoe to tell which one is rubbing...

    Hello man. I have a car just like yours. I think the master cylinder is bad. What did you replace it with?
    Thanks,

      Hello Steven, If you want to go back original, the single master cylinder is still available from AC Delco, new, but it is expensive these days: amzn.to/3s1CfeL. I chose to upgrade to a dual master cylinder and am running this: amzn.to/38wFbck
