    Brilliant review. Not so sunny here in the UK, but fortunately we have a South facing garden. So happy I purchased this system after milling through so many video reviews on different makes of security alarms. You made it so easy on which one to opt for. Thank you.

      Hi Lady Plum, I'm glad the review was useful! I hope the system lives up to your needs. Both cameras made it through the Canadian Winter here, so I think you'll be good with the system. Keep in mind that you can also adjust some settings temporarily for long periods of bleak or overcast weather to prolong the life until sunnier days are ahead again. Thanks from watching from the UK 🙂

      @@DemCrumblies Hi Mate great video. You have earned one more subscriber. Could you please advise if the phone used to manage the home base 3 needed to be on the same wifi network as the home base! In my case I am setting the cameras for parents and I live away from them. Can I still manage the home base (like erasing storage if I opt to buy smaller capacity storage and format periodically) from my house. as long as I initially paired my phone to home base then not on the same network after it has been paired successfully to manage?
      2. Can you please advise how many devices will be notified about intrusion? Can my wife and I both view the feed / notified on our individual mobile devices if we install the app? I.e can multiple devices connected to home base to view same cameras? Thanks in advance.. hope to see more videos from you

      @@avin8749 Hey Avin, thanks for the subscription! I can confirm that if you do the initial setup on your phone, you can still adjust settings even when you are using another WiFi network or your phone's mobile data without issue. You can even install the Eufy App on both your phone and your parents' phones if they feel comfortable with making settings changes too. I currently have the Eufy App on both my phones. Eufy also has a web portal you can use to manage the system. Here's a screenshot of what it looks like: drive.google.com/file/d/1hxdg-c9ZsnyEJZmHSjErVLp-Qa2Tr5s6/view?usp=share_link
      2 - Yes, both you and your wife can view the camera feeds and events. In fact, I can pull up the same live view on 2 different phones for the same camera in the Eufy App. You can also share the camera with your wife. I haven't needed to use this feature, but you can share the camera with your wife as a "Guest" so she can view but not make admin changes, or you can share it with her as an Admin so she has full privileges. Or you can just install the Eufy app on both your phones and use the same login credentials.
      Hope that answered your question. If you have any other follow-up questions, just let me know. Thanks again for choosing to watch my video 🙂

    Thanks a lot for another detailed, quality review! I didn't know that you were a fellow Canuck lol Did this system still manage to actually charge in the dead of the winter when it was coldest? I read somewhere that their Eufycam 2-series (the previous gen) would sometimes fail to charge when the device was super-cold, so that owners had longer downtime i.e. had to warm it up first and then charge, plus deal with condensation. Also, please consider putting up your affiliate links for Eufy's Canadian website as well, besides the US one.

    • @DemCrumblies
      @DemCrumblies  Рік тому +1

      Awesome to meet another Canuck on here! So with winter, I was monitoring both cameras and I noticed that around January or February, it was around the 30% mark for battery life and dropping because of all the overcast days and just the cold draining the battery. So I made some settings changings like turning off the LED light, reducing the LED floodlight strength and then later just switching it off and going to B&W Night vision mode. I also think I set it for just human detection instead of all motion and that helped me ride out Winter until I could enable the settings back when it got sunny again. So yea, it's definitely possible to last a Canadian Winter (at least in Ontario) by modifying some settings to tide you over til Spring hits. They cameras were never affected by the cold, snow or ice though. I'll have to look into if I can put specific Canadian links, I think the Eufy app just lets me put the US ones by default, but I'll double check. Thanks for the reminder 👍

      I noticed you mention there's a USB for recharging in case the camera isn't receiving enough sunlight. Can this be left plugged in 24/7 even while the camera is in operation (my guess is that it would compromise the weatherproof capability)? For context, 2 of our cameras will be in locations that are difficult to access in the event that the camera needs to be taken down to recharge, but there are nearby power outlets. Can we keep the cameras plugged in so that they stay fully charged, but have solar back-up if the power goes out (similar to hardwired smoke alarms that have battery back-up)? I hope that makes sense and thanks for any input

    • @DemCrumblies
      @DemCrumblies  2 роки тому

      @@jessaturner5736 Hey Jessa, while I have not tried to leave it permanently wired with a USB cable, that shouldn't be an issue. One possible downside could be that the battery life capacity may be depleted over time if the battery is constantly being overcharged, but if you plan on keeping it plugged in all the time anyway, then you may not care. Another option is to plug in a USB cable to the the camera and let it hang down, then just connect a portable power bank whenever necessary. Of course, you'll have to seal off the end of the cable and where it connects on the back of the camera to prevent water damage. Hope that helps.

    all set. so far they both are pretty stable, we get a lot of wind on our hill, we'll see how they hold up. i did install both of them under an eves bright sunshine but not directly, i'll test to see if the batteries recharge without continued direct sunlight. I guess the first disadvantage is not being about to view both live cams at one, but that's OK.. I was hoping to set up a continuous view on both cams.

    • @DemCrumblies
      @DemCrumblies  Рік тому +1

      Great to hear taglet1! Yea, they really cripple it to save battery life, which is why we can't have two simultaneous live views. Whenever sunlight is out, you can usually see if it is actively charging when you're on the home screen of the Eufy app. There is a little battery icon at the bottom left of the image and flashes on and off when it's actively charging. Otherwise, you have to go into the camera settings -> Power Manager. Hope charging works out where you have it installed!

    Silly question but is 120 seconds of recorded video enough? What if there's an incident happening outside and it cuts out just when I needed it to be recording? Does the recording continue immediately after the 120 seconds and so on? I'm new to this field so I'm curious and tempted by this kit. Thank you for the excellent review 👍

    • @DemCrumblies
      @DemCrumblies  2 роки тому +8

      Hey John, no worries, that isn't a silly question at all. When you reach 120 seconds, you can set the cameras to have as low as a 5-second cooldown or retrigger time, which means that you'll record 120 seconds, then the camera will wait 5 seconds, then record another 120 seconds.
      Lots of these battery-powered camera systems limit the max recording time and enable cooldown times to preserve battery life and possibly prevent overheating. I wish they let the user decide if they wanted to drain battery life to have longer clips, though.

      I think even with 4 cameras recording in 4K, you will be fine with a 5 TB drive because it's only motion-based recording and there's a cool down time of 5 seconds minimum between recordings. You should be able to easily store a couple months of footage before it's overwritten, but yea you can go higher if you want to be future-proofed.

      Hi Moorie, I haven't experienced a power loss yet since the battery capacity has been pretty stable with the solar charging feature. One camera is at 89% battery since I installed it and the other is at 71% battery (this one isn't positioned where a lot of sunlight hits it). If one of them dies during the Winter, I'll be sure to let you know, but so far it looks like they should make it through the Winter with no power loss. Btw, there was at least two times where I had to completely power off the Homebase 3 to move it around and it didn't require any manual setting again after plugging it back in at a new location if that helps any.

    • @DemCrumblies
      @DemCrumblies  Рік тому

      That's a great idea Patrick. Since the camera does have the type C port at the back, I don't see why that wouldn't work. I'm guessing the camera would accept the additional charge as if it was plugged into the wall while is still charges with the top solar panel that's already built in. Eufy has their own solar panel too: us.eufy.com/products/t8700?_pos=1&_psq=solar%20pa&_ss=e&_v=1.0
      It doesn't mention compatibility with the S330 cameras since they have their own solar panel, but for the purposes of potentially doubling the charging, you should be able to do it. I just haven't tried it and all the solar panels for my other security cameras use micro USB not Type C.

      Hey Peter, about 5 months ago, I noticed that the camera facing my garage was drooping lower after we had a bunch of high winds, so I had to go up and tighten it back. It's been fine since then and my camera on the side of the house has stayed in place without adjusting needed. So yea, I think if it's placed in a narrow area that is subject to high winds, it can definitely droop down. Another way to tackle it is to rotate the mount adjustment arm so that it rests on the side opposite the angulation cut-out. That was it rests on solid metal, but with the the trade-off that you won't be able to angulate it very low down if that makes sense.

    Thanks for the great review.
    I currently have some old Arlo cameras and looking to upgrade, and these look great. A few questions though - on Arlo I have set up a schedule to activate various cameras (I have 5) at different times of the day, depending on activity (eg. I don't have the indoor ones active/detecting when we are at home). Is it possible to set up a schedule like this with Eufy ?
    The other thing I am interested in (after being burned by Arlo progressively reducing the 1080P bitrate to a point where it is useless for security purposes - still technically 1080P, but VERY poor quality) is the bitrate or file size (eg. how many kilobytes per second of 4K video) of the saved 4K video files for these Eufycam 3 cameras set to maximum quality ?
    I usually use the Arlo web interface on a desktop, which I gather is challenging with Eufy - is this really only for mobile device app use rather than desktop use ?

      Hey Colin, thanks for watching my video!
      You can manage or view the Eufy cameras with a web interface or the app. However, it only allows you to see one feed at a time, you also cannot get a feed preview unless you click on a specific camera. This is what the interface looks like: drive.google.com/file/d/1I-IYZVOBTlT2H2s5zqx8K4zgvW2IdZg3/view?usp=share_link
      I will get back to you about the bitrate or file size tomorrow, along with scheduling records per camera. I believe that feature is present, but I will hunt to confirm and screenshot it so you can see.

    • @DemCrumblies

      Hi again Colin, so here is a link to what scheduling looks like on Eufy: drive.google.com/file/d/1qZL7Z_5pxLaAwuLw-WG5wR_juGz96zwI/view?usp=share_link
      You can set automation modes or create a custom mode for an away schedule.
      For the video quality, a 9 second 4K file is 2165 kbps video bitrate at 3840 x 2160 and at 15 FPS. Here is a sample file you can download if you like: drive.google.com/file/d/1wwQezjx3vPf0-D9xvjanI9094y3Xwis5/view?usp=share_link

      @@DemCrumblies Fantastic, than you so much. From the clip you provided, the bitrate appears to be 260kBps, which is VERY compressed for 4K (unnecessarily so considering the files are stored locally), but still better than my old Arlo cameras.
      One thing I am not too clear on regarding the scheduling, is whether the schedule shown in your screen shot is a schedule for the homebase (all connected cameras), or if there can be a schedule like that for each camera separately ?
      Also, can the video files be (automatically) saved on a NAS either as well as the homebase, or instead of the homebase ?

    • @DemCrumblies
      @DemCrumblies  Рік тому

      @@coline8696 Hey Colin, yes, you're right the files are compressed enough that I haven't even filled the 16 GB of built-in storage that comes with the Homebase 3. When I click the video file properties in Windows, it shows me the video data bitrate as 2165 Kbps and the total video bitrate as 2185 kbps. I'm guessing because the audio bitrate is 20 kbps. I didn't see the 260 kBps you mentioned, but let me know if I'm interpreting things incorrectly.
      The screenshots I showed are for the Homebase3's modes, there are no direct settings for each individual camera. However, in the screenshot, I made a mode called "Test", where I can set each individual camera to not record video or push notifications. So, while you can't adjust the scheduling in each camera, you can set a mode and select how you want the support cameras under the Homebase3 to function.
      Looks like NAS is supported too: drive.google.com/file/d/16vDdhIFcIjvR8_d4tb5aTXXLCnf4Ga6-/view?usp=sharing

    • @DemCrumblies

      The camera has to be on the same network as the Homebase3, but actually once you connect the Homebase3 to your router or modem (which must be hard-wired), the Homebase 3 will give wireless connectivity to the cameras. The cameras do not connect to your WiFi network directly, they get it from the Homebase 3. I think Eufy recommends placing the cameras no more than 30 to 50 feet away. They may release a signal extender later this year, but I can't say for certain.

      if you click on the Events tab at the bottom of the app, you can see all the recorded events. When you set the activity zone, it should detect all activity in that zone. If it doesn't, then you might have to adjust the sensitivity. There is a "Motion Test Mode" setting in Motion Detection where you can test this out. Also, be sure to set the Notifications to "Most Efficient" under the Notification settings. If you set no activity zone, it will record everything it sees, so the garage cam recording you makes sense in that case. You don't have it backwards, I think the front door camera just needs the sensitivity adjusted maybe. Let me know how it goes.

      Hey MEL E, I actually set my notifications for familiar faces to ignore(not show) on my phone in the HomeBase3 settings since I only want to be notified of strangers moving around so I don't remember if it shows the person's name. I know for sure it shows the name in the events tab, but I will have to test it tomorrow to see if it shows it on the phone notification banner too. Let me check tomorrow and get back to you about it. Btw, I'm assuming you set a nickname for each familiar face already right?

      Hey MEL E, so I tested this with both cameras and sometimes it shows that it is me as a familiar face and sometimes it says someone, so I guess it depends on if the AI accurately identifies the person. You can help it learn though by tapping on the AI Edge icon at the bottom of the app, click on a familiar face and you will see associated images that the AI thinks belongs to that person. If the faces and bodies belongs to the right person, then tap on it and pick "Yes". After a while the AI should get better at identifying and showing the Familiar face name / nickname in the alerts/notifications.

      Eufy recommends placing the cameras away from the HomeBase 3 no more than 30 to 50 feet away. One of my cameras is about 12 feet away, and the other is around 23 feet away and they both pull up live view without timing out, so you'll be fine as long as you place the cameras within that 30 to 50 feet range. Before you permanently mount the cameras, I'd recommended pulling up the camera's live view in the Eufy App and checking how responsive it is to pulling up live view. I usually do this to ensure I have a good connection before drilling.

    Thank you for this detailed review. Found it very helpful. 😁Been looking at these cameras for sometime but I've been put off them slightly because I have an overhang from my roof as well and didn't think these would stick out far enough to get enough or any sun light to keep them charged up. (Also living in Scotland UK, there's not a lot of sun light here throughout the year either😂)
    I had 2 questions, I wondering now that you've had these for 5 months, how has your garage door camera's battery been? has it been able to top up its battery without the indirect sunlight? Or did you move it?
    And my next question, do you know if a camera isn't getting enough sunlight on its own, could I run a USBC cable from the camera and into my house to keep it charged up? (have it like a mains/ POE style camera) I'm guessing as this is an open port its no longer technically "water proof" and if water does get in through this door voids the warranty etc.
    Many thanks

      Hey Dan! I was worried about my garage camera lasting through a Canadian Winter because we have lots of overcast days during Winter. The garage camera went as low as 44%, but now that Spring is around the corner, it is back up to 64% and still charging. The other camera is at 86%, so a big difference, but the batteries are capable enough to weather the Winter season. I haven't moved the garage camera at all, it's in the same position. Once Spring hits, the battery percentage should go up even more.
      Yes, I think you should be able to run a USB cable from the camera to your house, then just connect it inside to a power brick or charger if you ever want to top it up. And yea, you'll sacrifice the weather sealing, but you could also use some kind of putty material maybe to seal up the port and USB cable to help. I just wouldn't have power running to the cable all the time. I'd just leave the cable dangling inside your home, then connect it to a wall or power bank when needed.
      Let me know if you have any other questions, and thanks for watching my video. It's awesome to have a viewer from Scotland! Never been, but from what I've seen online, it looks beautiful.

      Thank you for getting back to me so quickly, really appreciate it🙂. Oh wow! That’s making me seriously think about buying these if the battery lasted that long and is now charging itself back up again in non direct sunlight. Haha I was going to say a Canadian winter is similar to a Scottish one but I think you guys have it a lot harsher than we do… but the sun light levels I guess are about the same. 😂That was my biggest concern with these. There are sections around my house that I think don’t get a lot or any direct sunlight and I could just see myself going up and down a ladder taking these off to charge them constantly which is why I was really intrigued with your findings. 😁
      Ok that’s also handy to know thank you. Yeh if I was planning to run a cable from the power socket/ brick through the wall to the camera I would put some sort of putty or silicone around it to make it a little more water tight… but if I don’t even need to do that with the batteries being good enough with low light levels then I should hopefully be ok with just the built in solar… I understand my usage may vary a bit to yours but it’s given me a great indication I feel so thank you again for this 😁

All my other solar cameras from other brands didn't make it through the Winter. Yea, the settings will come into play. I had reduced the spotlight brightness to medium on the garage camera in the middle of Winter when the battery level was declining in hopes of prolonging it, but seeing the battery level going back up now, I could have just left it at high spotlight brightness. If you get these, just be sure to angle it down a bit like Eufy recommends in the installation part so at least some sun will hit if the overhang casts a shadow during certain times of day.

      Hey SuperTrickyRicky and The Slippery SevenSevens, since the Homebase 3 provides the WiFi connectivity for the cameras, I don't know if a WiFi extender can work for these cameras from the Homebase 3 to the camera. However if you want to move the Homebase 3 as close to the cameras as possible, you can use a WiFi extender that has an ethernet port on it, so that you can have the Homebase 3 moved closer to the cameras if the cameras will be far from where ISP's modem is located if that makes sense.

    If leave the homebase just on the LAN and the camera's on WIFI, why is Internet required? Besides firmware updates? Been hearing that Eufy might be sending traffic to their cloud solution without you knowing? Not sure how true this is. To be safe would like to segment off the homebase to leave it only internal.

    • @DemCrumblies
      @DemCrumblies  2 роки тому +1

      Hey Brian, I think you need WiFi mostly if you want to access the cameras when you are away from home on your phone or on their web dashboard. From what I understand of the setup, the Homebase 3 provides WiFi to the cameras, and the Homebase 3 gets internet connectivity when you hook it up directly to your modem or router. If you ran on just an internal LAN, I'm assuming that the HomeBase 3 would still output it's WiFi for the cameras, but you'd have to ask Eufy about that to confirm it. I'm also not sure if you'd have to hop back and forth from the internal WiFi SSID and the internet connected WiFi SSID every time you wanted to be online, then wanted to connect to the cameras to monitor them.
      I don't know about sending unneeded traffic back to their servers though. I think the AI is onboard, which is why there are no monthly fees. So the only traffic I'd assume was passing is diagnostic data or to check for updates, but there isn't really a way to confirm 100%.

    Hi. What's the main difference between s330 and solocam s40.. apart from homebase support and resolution? Which one should I go for?

    • @DemCrumblies
      @DemCrumblies  2 роки тому

      Hey Vignesh, the biggest difference really is the homebase support. Since there isn\t homebase support currently, the S40 has 8 GB of built in local storage and the ability to detect humans with onboard AI analysis. Since it has to record and perform AI analysis by itself, the battery life on the S40 could potentially drain quicker if it isn't installed in an area where it gets enough sunlight every day to top up the charge. The S330 must be paired with the homebase 3 to allow it to record to the HomeBase 3. As well, the Homebase 3 performs the AI analysis, which also includes pet and vehicle detection, so that offloads work from the S330 resulting in less work for the camera unit to perform and likely better battery life. I have both cameras, and they're great. If you don't need pet or vehicle detection and you're fine with 2K resolution (which is still quite great), then the S40 is a great camera. If you know you will add more cameras or Eufy products later, then you can get the S330 with the HomeBase 3 now and be futureproofed. Hope that helps.

    Hey. Thanks for the informative video. Please forgive my lack of technical knowledge but I hope you can decipher my explanation of our set up here. We have an old stone house with super thick walls. The main router is one end of the house and we beam a signal to my office outside (approx 50 metres away) via a transmitter on the chimney. In the office there is another router with a separate SSID which uses the internet signal from the house. Can we connect the Eufy home base to this additional router then sync the cameras to this? The location of the cameras would be much closer to the office and would not be blocked by lots of thick stone walls. Thanks Clare

    • @DemCrumblies
      @DemCrumblies  2 роки тому

      Hey Clare, absolutely, you will be able to connect the HomeBase 3 on this system to the second router in your office. Just keep in mind that the HomeBase 3 has to be hard-wired to your second modem through the ethernet cable (RJ45 cable) though. It cannot connect to your network wirelessly. Once the HomeBase 3 is hard-wired to your second router, the S330 cameras will connect wirelessly to the HomeBase 3. Just ensure that both cameras are somewhat close to Homebase 3 as much as possible especially if the brick is quite thick. At my home, I have one camera around 11 feet from the HomeBase 3 and another camera around 20 feet away and the signal strength is quite good, but my walls aren't thick. You may have to experiment a bit with positioning to get the best possible results.
      If you decide to buy the system, I'd be curious to hear how it went. Btw, your house seems like it would be nice to look at with the thick stone walls and chimney.

      Hey @netstar5950, thank you for the kind words! You're correct that the connection is between the Homebase 3 and the cameras, not the router. Hey ddaatroonn, I think that mostly stems from my low tolerance towards how most things are moving towards a subscription based model, when the hardware remains the same and software upgrades or functionality are kind of limited since the hardware is not being upgraded. Sure, systems like Blink are a fraction of what this system costs, but they do so by jeopardizing on the responsiveness of the system, the overall functionality or build quality. This system definitely has a higher upfront cost compared to other camera systems, but it packs a lot of features, great build quality and depending on how long you keep it, it easily surpasses paying monthly for a cheaper system that is also subject to price increases later down the road.

      @@mateuszkaflowski3827 Hey Mateusz, I understand. Let me explain further, because the basement setup you have in mind will likely not work. Unlike most other camera systems which ask you to connect to your current 2.4 Ghz WiFi network in the app with the password, then it has you scan a QR code to have the camera connect to the same WiFi network, the EufyCam 3 system works differently.
      Once you connect the HomeBase hard-wired to ethernet/RJ45 cable, to add the S330 cameras to the app, you have to press and hold the Sync button on the camera and keep it near the HomeBase 3, then it connects to the HomeBase 3 directly. It's kinda like the HomeBase 3 is outputting WiFi directly for the S330 cameras, and the WiFi network is hidden to other devices because I can't see a new any new WiFi networks/SSIDs when I check on my phone. So I don't think the router option will work unfortunately, since you can't specify a WiFi network for the cameras to connect to.
      Yea it would be good to have the option to permanently wire them for the Winter months too if solar charging is not readily available. Only kind of work around would be to drill a hole and run a Type C charging cable into your house, which you can connect to a wall or to a power bank for top ups. I actually have a doorbell camera that I just run a cable and squeeze it through my front door frame and connect a power bank whenever it needs charging, so I don't have to go outside to do it (lazy I know).
