Thank you! We just started homeschooling and the all in one thing wasn’t working. I’m a math and science nerd so I needed this help in language arts. I also love getting them off the computer so much. I just bought Narnia and my kids are excited to try it.

Can you do a video on how you got your kids to love reading? Like a tips video! How you got your children to be obsessive readers. Thanks!

Thisnis our 3rd year of Homeschooling. We started school the first week of August. It is now almost Novemeber, and we have just now settled in. I switched my 8yr old 3 times with ELA. We are now doing Bookshark and love it! We have also switched History and Science twice and dropped alot of "busy" work. It makes me feel better to know I'm not the only one still figuring it out.

I’m one those those Abeka English loyalists 😂 but it works for us and we like it:) I understand how people can hate the diagraming and switch things up. We do read classics too but in a more casual read aloud family time way

We do not like Abeka! My kids always check out after 15 min. It’s way too much and to do a full day of their curriculum takes 8 hours 🤦🏼‍♀️

I purchased English from BJU press for my 3rd grader to kind of supplement his TGTB LA…he hates it lol 🙈 I also bought Fix It Grammar and he’s responded better to that. I may have to look more into IEW for next year.

I homeschooled using Abeka when I was in 6-8th, (otherwise I was public schooled) and the standout thing I hated was diagramming sentences. Many other things I liked, I had the videos and I remember especially loving the Bible / history teacher so much in 6th. Of course the biblical worldview was so refreshing after government school.

    • @mandy-maltz

I think level 4 or 5, but you may want to ask them. I'd probably start with level 4 or 5 myself.

My daughter is in 4th grade and we are doing The Good and the Beautiful level 3. We are considering doing IEW to supplement writing and continuing with TGTB. How ever I’m not opposed to using something different. Is there anything that you recommend for upper elementary Literature - just book studies? we I like what you have IEW for writing and grammar, Abeca for vocabulary and skill sheets.
Thank you for taking the time in making these videos.

We keep it pretty simple, even with a few different brands.
In order that he normally does his work
      Fix It Grammar
      Spelling/Vocab
      Reading Comp (once a week)
      Redefining School (his favorite)
      Structure & Style
Discussion of the book we're reading together (Teaching the Classics Methof)

Hello, I have a 5 year old who will start kindergarten next fall. We are not sure about our future of homeschooling for several reasons, but we want him prepared regardless. I've been loosely using the All In One preschool lessons. If you are familiar with that program, do you believe that is sufficient for pre K?

    • @mandy-maltz
      @mandy-maltz  Рік тому

Hey David! I’m not familiar with that brand, so I’m not sure. But if it helps, I taught pre-k for almost a decade. The main thing we really focused on was motor skills (fine and gross), writing their name, numbers 1-20, and letter recognition. The rest they will learn in kindergarten. Hopefully that helps!

@@mandy-maltz Thank you for your reply! I watched several of your preschool playlist videos, and it helped put me at ease. I didn't expect to be the parent teaching homeschool, but, it's the season I'm in.

Preschool really doesn’t need curriculum. Teach the the basics at first then work up. Colors letters numbers color combinations. Neither of my kids did preschool at school. I taught them and they were more than ready. The teacher asked me what school I send them too and i said I taught them. My. Daughter knew a rhombus was a diamond just from watching Sesame Street. Lol. We cut out pictures from magazines to differentiate land and sea animals then she write simple sentences. Don’t spend too much money.
