I am 1000% convinced that starting to practice R&B music in 2021 has played a role in me expanding my options in terms of chords, chord progressions, etc. I used to have this idea that as a musician mostly in the church, I couldn't listen to or play R&B. I'm delivered from that now, and I've learned A LOT just by playing R&B.
I agree! Gospel is not necessarily “hard” but often too complex to comprehend because of the embellishments!
Genres like RnB are much easier to wrap your head around imo! And because RnB and Gosepl are similar, you can make those musical connections easier!
