Great video.
I see here you are mainly in a size/weight zone regarding review of these saws.
In my testing environments here in Alaska it goes something like this:
1.)Silky means efficiency at its finest by means of a person inclined to use pull-saw technique. In other words, it's not for a person that has no familiarity, careless with function, and may have watched a little Tool-Time. Silky is super sharp, aggressive, and the geometry is spot-on relative to build, materials, and the blade taper from teeth to thinning at spine.
That said... what to watch out for?
A.) Pulling NOT pushing
B.) As teeth dull out - time to replace... PRECISION COMES AT A PRICE!
C.) Beware of breakage in below 0 F temps --- especially on frozen wood!!! It will snap like an icicle.
2.) Bahco is an all-arounder... generally speaking always good enough and well thought out. tho' less efficient --- It also has the reliability edge in severe cold conditions in blade reliability. Pushing and pulling can aid some tasks or confined spaces.
Corona is a garden variety... light camping and housework or a first saw.
Hope this sheds some more perspective from a different environment.
The better saws in the silky line for me tend to be BigBoy, KatanaBoy, & PocketBoy.
giving the Silky GomBoy a run for its money is the Tajima G-SAW 240.
Have you ever used one as a bone saw for processing game? I am wondering whether to get the medium or fine tooth for bone. Thanks
Hey Aaron,
Thanks for the review. You didn't mention the 2nd position that you can set the blade into... There's a 2nd locking notch in the blade so that you can lock it in a sort of 'blade up' position which I've found really helpful for cutting material close to the ground.
I've watched a half dozen or so folding saw reviews researching items for a kit. You are the first to mention the teeth and which types of wood they will cut the best. An important piece of information don't you think? lol I appreciate the lesson on teeth because it is something I hadn't even thought of. The best reviews are the ones you learn something from. Great vid! You and the Lt. Colonel are my go to guys when I need legit information and comprehensive, honest reviews of equipment in this area. Keep up the good work. Thanks!
Really means a lot, I am so glad you learned something! Thanks for watching.
Nice, I have the silky super accel. Have used a few other silky saws like the big boy and zubat. So far I've loved them all. Never tried a bacho saw but with so many good reviews out there I'd love to try one some day.
I've done countless testing on my channel and have found the Silky to outperform all other folding saws plus some bow/buck saws out there. I do alot of professional tree service and while the corona is slightly cheaper, the blade steel is softer then that of Silkys. Meaning the coronas dull quicker and cut slower over time.
Great feed back!
Pocketboy 170 & Gomboy 270 here. Awesome folding saws. I could never understand the hype about the Bahco Lapplander. Silky saws are so much better imo.
Great video Aaron as always. I love my Bachos they work awesome , but I recently purchased the Silky Pocket boy I got for my smaller bag, and this thing rips right through everything. I can only imagine how that one would do. Looks like a great saw ,, oh yes ,, still loving that Steel Will blade I won last month,, thanks !
So glad to hear that on both fronts!
Finally, we agree on what is good and what is bad. The Silky Gomboy shames the competition, plus it is made in Japan, and they pay their factory workers $27 an hour on average; So you can sleep at night, knowing you weren't supporting the exploitation of cheap labor from RoC and PRC.
Certified Arborist here. I only use Silky hand saws. I have a Zubat 330, Pocketboy, and Super Accel.
The Bahco is a bit slower, but I find it makes cleaner cuts. Which of course doesnt really matter in the woods 99% of the time. The Silky tears through wood, which is generally what I'm after!
Excellent! I picked up that exact same saw when I was in Japan last week and paid about $20 for it at a tiny hardware store in Tokyo. Looking forward to testing it this weekend.
Very cool!
I've always used the Bacho. but upgraded to that Silky. it's a fantastic tool.
I use the Gomboy 300 (medium teeth) and Bigboy 2000 (extra large teeth). They put every other folding saw I've used to shame. Silky is the top of the food chain of folding saws.
For sure my friend!
I have the silky saw 230 gomboy. its a inch longer closed and I love it:) you missed the second setting on this saw. by pressing button you can tilt blade back so handle is up for low cutting near the ground.
Good stuff and your production skills continue to improve ;). Keep up the good work brother!
Very good points you bring up Aaron. I think you are in my top 4 favorite UA-cam reviewers along with black scout survival, nuntnfancy, and black owl outdoors.
Wow, thank you so much. That means a lot!
What folding saw is best for tropical jungle (amazon forest) and also what is the best all round saw to tackle soft and hard, green and dead?
Great timing! I was looking to get a folding saw to combine with my Gransfors Bruk's hand hatchet for overnights. I have a bow saw now but was thinking the Bahco for its weight.
Great choice!
Excellent video Aaron. I recently did a folding saw shoot out on the Ozark Trail, Corona & the Bacho in SE GA here on the channel. Again, very well done presentation.
Thanks so much!
aww ya!! I love my silky zubat, best thing for Christmas trees ever
Nice!
the silky pocketboy is pretty awesome as well
Awesome. just curious, why did you go with a 210 gomboy over the 240. I have the 240 and the slightly extra long blade makes it easier for cutting without sacrificing the weight too much.
In Canada its $80 plus tax and shipping so $90.40 mine came to. Can't wait to use mine.
What size are your hands again
I'm just joking I like that you say that. It gives is a reference so thank you for it
Very nice video.I use the Silky Super Accel 210. I also like the little Silky Pocket boy. I like the multi positional blade. It makes awkward angles more manageable.
Nice!
how is the pocket boy?? I'm talking my boss into getting one for each of us on the crew
It really works well it has about a 5 inch blade and fits in a cargo pocket. I carry it on overnighters and long hikes. Anything under 4 inches it handles quickly. You can also order other teeth sizes for different types of wood.
+james hill awesome! that's good to hear I wanted somthing that could manage small branches after we buck up all the big stuff with the chainsaw. sounds like this will fit the bill thanks

I've got a Pocketboy 170 that I love. Here in Canada, it was actually less expensive than the Laplander.
+redpanda1971 Nice!
This was a really good review and Defoe interested in getting a silky. Would of been nice to see you try the second blade position to see how that faired. I have a bahco but got it in a set with a Mora Lapland (companion) for £22 so couldn't complain.
Thanks for a nice review :)

Mint review! Silky make best Saws for sure! But the bacho is lighter?
It weights 6.7oz
+gideonstactical Hay Aaron i just got back from a hunting trip in New Zealand where i used my new Silky pocket boy 130, it was awesome! 6.2oz and i think it can keep up with the bahco any day! And you can get 4 different teeth sizes, i have Medium for wood and extra fine for bone, cheek it out!
I have the bigboy 2000 and a bacho. I love my silky
Sweet!
+gideonstactical BIGGER TEETH..!
www.ebay.com/itm/Silky-GOMBOY-GOM-BOY-spare-blades-saw-210mm-240mm-122-21-291-21-295-21-122-24-/131190971417?var=&hash=item1e8b975c19
Actually the silky pocketboy 170 medium teeth would make a better comparison with the laplander, purely due to the closer size similarities. But am pretty sure the gomboy cuts just as well as the pocketboy. Anyhow great video always looking forward to yours.. keep it up!
Which would you rather have on you, a folding saw or a collapsible bow saw?
Great comparison
Everyone uses their older Bahco to compare. Worn blades are unfair. I love them both but I love the weight and comfort of the Bahco. I agree, it also has more uses.
I own 3 bahcos and this is the newest one with a good blade on it.
What gloves are those?
Whats the little hole in the centre of the blade for?
How do these compare with the sven saw? I feel the sven saw's added size is more than justified by it's increased wood cutting ability.
It is good but bigger in the pack and different capability.
Great review! Gonna have to get me one
Great review!
68,000 subscribers good job!
I think you just sold me on a Silky Gomboy! :)
+Caleb Baird Glad to help!
I'd also like to know how it compares to the Sven saw
Different capabilities
Great review man!
Thanks for watching!
Say Heah Aaron, Yeah, You want fast, Do a review on the EZ KUT WoW Folding Saw.,,. p
Nice video.
IS your watch casio OR suunto ?
G-Shock with a suunto compass attached
+gideonstactical G-Shock 6900 with suunto clipper?
Silky wins hands down, if you want a finer cut-buy the finer tooth model, if you want a wood cutting machine use the coarser tooth blades.
welcome to the show, mr. nutnfancy
Haha
+gideonstactical I have learned a bunch from Nutn and GT. Keep on keeping on Aaron!
+Michael StJohn thank so much it is an honor to be put on that level
I gotta ask...are you two TWIN brothers? I had to scroll back to make sure I understood it was a clip of your brother and not a clip of you.
well i could be wrong
This is nothing compared to the Katanaboy!
I will look into that one
Corona cuts faster than Gomboy and is half the price, how is Gomboy king?
I prefer the Agawa Canyon saw!!!!
+Kevin Lynch is it like a Sawvivor?
Closer to a Sven.
ohawoy
Oh boy the bahco fanboys are gonna be out in full force with the thumbs down!! Hehe
Haha, oh well I got to speak the truth!
save your money buy the corona! unless your sawing 8hours a day.
I would disagree, the bahco or silky would be better.
+gideonstactical the price difference isn't worth buying the silky or bahco in my opinion. the corona is $20 at Lowe's . can't beat that for how it performs.
+Daniel De La Cruz last I looked on Amazon bahco was $18 on Amazon
Damn then never mind what I said. I thought it was around 30+ but I guess I was wrong. Keep up the great reviews and videos!!God bless!
Ha! Another Silky Boy sponsored vid..... 10 years Corona saw user, orchard, home, outdoors, green wood, dry wood, fruit/nut tree woods, ... never will look on anything else.
Totally understand
+John Lord I was thinking the same exact thing as I was watching this
video. There is only one way to keep the free gear coming I guess.
Videos from this channel have been dropping off and the action clips are
getting shorter and shorter. What a shame.
+Wisconsin Northwoods I am sorry you feel that way. Know that I bought this saw. Not given to me, and I have been using this saw for several months and can see the performance level. 3 different locations were seen in the video in that 5 month time frame plus several other testing times that were not seen. I am not sure what you are looking for in the content and action portion.
Salty Corona fanboy? Weird. A folding saw fanboy. I guess I've seen it all.
Stay salty!
love my silky gomboy -- i have the 240 with med. teeth and its a beast smooth cutting and ferocious -- thinking about getting a silky pocket boy 170 with fine teeth for my belt carry and stow my 240 in/on my pack
been telling everyone i know about silky saws since i saw Brian from "Survival on Purpose" do a saw shoot-out vid featuring the Gomboy and others
wish i could like bahco but i dont -- Silky all the way !!!
After using them they are the best in my mind.
