The surgical table is an operating room specific piece of equipment. Some tables are movable, others are stationary. Various parts of the table can be moved to place it in different positions along with he use of certain accessories. This is in order facilitate optimal access to the site of surgery. Before use, the periodic check record should be examined to ensure that inspection and maintenance of the device have been performed according to the schedule recommended by the manufacturer. Also before the table is used, the scrub nurse needs to make sure that it is functioning properly and that the wheels at the base of the table column are locked.
